The best SpO₂ activity tracker depends on whether you want a compact fitness band, a full smartwatch, a traditional-looking hybrid, or sports-focused training tools. For most Android users who want sleep and health features, the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 is the strongest all-round choice; the Withings ScanWatch 2 suits buyers who prefer a conventional watch, while Fitbit Charge 6 is a smaller activity-band option. Garmin is worth considering for its sports ecosystem, not because the available evidence proves it leads in oxygen-reading accuracy.
Important: Wrist-based SpO₂ readings are wellness estimates for personal trends, not medical monitoring. No device here replaces a fingertip pulse oximeter or clinical evaluation. A single low reading cannot diagnose a condition, and serious or worsening symptoms warrant medical attention regardless of a watch reading.

How to choose an SpO₂ tracker
SpO₂ is an estimate of the percentage of hemoglobin carrying oxygen. A wearable uses light reflected from tissue; it does not analyze a blood sample. Wrist readings can be affected by movement, fit, circulation, temperature, skin pigmentation, and other factors. The FDA cautions that pulse-oximeter readings can be inaccurate in some circumstances and advises people not to rely on the number alone when symptoms are serious or worsening. Before buying, check what the device actually does: a manual spot check, an overnight estimate, periodic background sampling, or a derived sleep or respiratory insight are different features. “Has an SpO₂ sensor” does not mean “continuously monitors oxygen,” and it does not guarantee a useful reading during exercise.
- Choose the collection mode you will use. Overnight trends can add context to sleep; a manual reading may be more convenient for occasional checks. Background sampling schedules vary.
- Check compatibility and region. A feature may be limited by country, phone model, operating system, account, or app. Samsung specifies Android 11 or later for pairing requirements and says some health functions need Samsung Health and a Samsung account.
- Match the device to your activity needs. Compare workout modes, GPS (built-in or phone-connected), heart-rate tracking, training metrics, water resistance, and comfort—not just the presence of SpO₂.
- Think about overnight wear and charging. Consistent sleep tracking depends on wearing the device comfortably. Check the manufacturer’s battery-life claim for your intended settings; oxygen sampling and other features can affect actual use.
- Check data access and costs. Confirm whether historical readings and advanced insights are available without a subscription, and whether data can be viewed or shared through the health platforms you use.
- Look for evidence on the exact model. Independent comparison against a reference device is more useful than a broad brand claim. Check the tested model, participants, conditions, and whether testing was at rest or during movement.

Samsung Galaxy Watch8: best overall Android smartwatch
Galaxy Watch8 is the best fit if you want a full Android smartwatch alongside overnight oxygen trends, sleep insights, and broad fitness features. Samsung says its sleep-apnea feature is FDA-authorized to detect signs of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea by examining oxygen-saturation dips overnight. That is a defined risk-detection feature—not a diagnosis of sleep apnea.
Samsung lists a U.S. starting price of $299.99 before trade-in. Compatibility is a meaningful limitation: it must be paired with an Android phone, and some health functions require Samsung Health and a Samsung account. It is a poor fit for iPhone owners, people who want a discreet band, or anyone seeking medical oxygen monitoring. Check Samsung’s current price, requirements, and feature availability.
SpO₂ evidence: A study tested the older Galaxy Watch 5, not Watch8. Its results should not be treated as proof of Watch8 accuracy. The sleep-apnea feature has a separate, specific regulatory status; that status does not make every watch reading a clinical measurement.
Withings ScanWatch 2: best hybrid-health option
ScanWatch 2 is for people who like a conventional watch appearance and health-oriented reporting more than a large touchscreen or full smartwatch app experience. Its design may also suit buyers who want a watch they can wear overnight without the look or feel of a typical sports watch. Check Withings’ live page for current pricing and specific feature availability.

Withings ScanWatch was included in an independent comparison of consumer watches against a reference oximeter. The tested ScanWatch met the study’s ISO accuracy criterion, and it was among the models that met the study’s more stringent FDA-related criterion. The study was not a blanket test of every ScanWatch generation or condition, so it is evidence about that comparison—not a guarantee for ScanWatch 2 or every wearer. Read the comparison and check Withings’ product details.
Trade-off: This is less suited to buyers seeking rich on-watch workout interaction or a full smartwatch replacement. Consider it for a hybrid design and health reporting, not as a medical monitor.

Charge 6 is a sensible direction for someone who prioritizes a small everyday tracker for steps, workouts, and sleep over a large watch display. Its SpO₂ data should be understood as a wellness trend feature; do not assume that it provides continuous monitoring or dependable real-time exercise oxygen measurements.

Garmin makes most sense when its training tools, sports metrics, and fitness ecosystem are the priority. Check the specific model’s product information for whether Pulse Ox is available and how readings are collected; do not assume every model samples in the same way or offers exercise readings.

One independent comparison found substantially larger SpO₂ error for the Garmin Venu 2S than for the Apple Watch Series 7 tested. That finding is limited to those devices and that study; it is not a fair basis for declaring all current Garmin watches inaccurate. It is, however, a reason not to buy a Garmin primarily on an unsubstantiated claim of class-leading SpO₂ accuracy. Read the study or check Garmin’s current product information.

In a comparison of Apple Watch Series 8, Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, and Withings ScanWatch against a reference oximeter, all three met the ISO 80601-2-61 accuracy requirements in that study. Only Apple Watch Series 8 and Withings ScanWatch met the study’s more stringent FDA-related criterion. These results are useful comparisons of the tested models and conditions; they do not make any of the watches a substitute for medical monitoring or establish that newer models perform identically. Study details.
A separate comparison found the tested Apple Watch Series 7 closest to a clinical-grade reference and Garmin Venu 2S farthest away among the devices studied. Again, this is a result about those models and that protocol—not a brand-wide ranking. A 2025 living review reported that blood-oxygen measurement had been validated in Apple Watch Series 6 through Series 8 across the studies it reviewed, while noting the need for continued longitudinal validation. Accuracy findings are strongest when a study tests the exact product against a reference device, includes a relevant range of participants and skin tones, reports error metrics, and reflects the conditions in which you plan to use it. Resting, overnight, and exercise readings are not interchangeable.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is SpO₂ useful for fitness?
It can add context to personal trends—for example, when comparing overnight readings under similar conditions or observing how your device behaves during a trip to altitude. It is not a direct measure of aerobic fitness. For training decisions, pace, heart rate, performance over time, training load, and VO₂ max estimates are generally more relevant.

Movement can make wrist readings less dependable, so do not assume a device’s overnight or resting feature is a meaningful live workout metric. Avoid comparing one tracker’s exercise reading with another tracker’s resting reading: sampling windows and conditions differ, and motion adds error.
How to get a more consistent reading
- Wear the tracker snugly, without making it uncomfortably tight, and position it as the manufacturer instructs.
- Keep the arm and wrist still; do not take a reading immediately after vigorous movement.
- Warm cold hands or extremities and make sure the sensor has good contact with skin.
- Remove anything that interferes with sensor contact, and follow the maker’s instructions for the feature.
- Repeat an unexpected result and compare readings under similar conditions rather than over-interpreting one value.
- If you need a home spot measurement, consider a fingertip pulse oximeter with clear labeling and appropriate regulatory status.
These precautions may help produce more consistent measurements; they do not guarantee accuracy. Factors identified by the FDA include skin pigmentation, poor circulation, skin thickness, skin temperature, tobacco use, and fingernail polish. Do not assume a particular smartwatch is equally accurate across all skin tones without adequate product-specific evidence. FDA information.
When to use a fingertip pulse oximeter—or seek care
A wrist tracker is designed for convenient lifestyle trends. A fingertip pulse oximeter is a better fit when you need a direct home spot measurement, though it too can be affected by device quality and measurement conditions. For children, pregnancy, lung disease, or another chronic condition, ask a healthcare professional what monitoring—if any—is appropriate rather than using a consumer watch to guide care.
If a wearable reading is unexpectedly low, stop activity, rest, warm the wrist or hand, reposition the device, and repeat the measurement. If available and appropriate, compare with a fingertip device. Consider how you feel as well as the number. Contact a healthcare professional if a result remains concerning; seek care when symptoms are serious or worsening. The FDA advises against relying on a pulse-oximeter number alone in those circumstances.
If readings disappear or vary widely, check that the feature is enabled, the device was worn correctly and for the relevant period, and the required phone, account, app, and region settings are in place. Battery-saving settings, loose fit, movement, cold skin, different sampling windows, or comparing a spot reading with a nightly average can also explain gaps or differences.
