For almost every Amazfit owner, install Zepp first. It is the official Android companion for pairing, firmware updates, watch settings, health syncing, watch faces and mini-apps. The other nine recommendations solve narrower problems—better notifications, privacy, sleep analysis, route planning, structured training, health-data sharing or automation. You probably need Zepp plus one or two specialist apps, not all ten.
Check support for your exact watch model and Zepp OS version before replacing or supplementing Zepp. A phone app that syncs workouts is not automatically a direct watch companion.

Best for: every Amazfit owner. Zepp handles Bluetooth pairing, firmware updates, watch settings, notifications, health dashboards, watch faces, mini-apps and supported account connections. It brings together heart rate, sleep, stress, blood oxygen, workouts and recovery-related metrics, although these are wellness features—not medical diagnoses.

Amazfit lists integrations including Strava, adidas Running, TrainingPeaks, komoot, Relive, Google Fit and Apple Health, subject to model, account and regional support. Zepp Coach and Zepp Aura features are also limited to supported devices and accounts.
Notification path: open Zepp > Devices > [your watch] > Notification and Reminders > App Notification. Labels vary by model and app version. Also grant Android notification, Bluetooth and background permissions.
The core app is free to install; Google Play labels it as containing ads and in-app purchases, while optional premium services such as Zepp Aura may be offered in selected markets. Official Zepp information · Google Play

Bottom line: install Zepp first unless you have verified that an alternative supports your exact model and every feature you need.
2. Notify for Amazfit & Zepp — best for customization
Best for: richer notification rules, quick replies, exports, widgets and custom actions. Notify advertises support for calls, SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and other apps; selected watches can use quick replies, custom alarms, heart-rate alerts, watch faces and button actions.
Its integrations include Google Fit, Strava, Runkeeper, Runalyze, TCX/GPX exports, Sleep as Android and Tasker. Tasker, IFTTT and HTTP-request actions make it the most flexible choice for Android power users.
Compatibility is not universal. The current listing names newer devices such as Bip 6, Active 2, GTR 5, Cheetah and Balance, while explicitly excluding Amazfit Pop 3S and Pop 3R. The app is not affiliated with Amazfit. Google Play currently labels it as containing ads and in-app purchases; its rating and data-safety disclosures should be checked before installation.
Notify may require notification access, Bluetooth, health and persistent background permissions. Those permissions can increase battery use and create privacy trade-offs. It can partially supplement Zepp, but it does not guarantee access to every proprietary metric, firmware function or Zepp OS feature. Google Play listing · Data-safety disclosure
Bottom line: choose it when customization matters more than the simplicity of the official app.

3. Gadgetbridge — best privacy-oriented alternative
Best for: technically confident users who prefer an open-source, privacy-conscious companion. Gadgetbridge supports a range of Zepp OS watches with notifications, alarms, selected controls and device-data handling.
Support varies substantially by model. Newer Amazfit devices may require a secret authentication key obtained through the official app before pairing. Do not delete Zepp until you have confirmed the key-recovery process and that Gadgetbridge supports the functions you need.

Bottom line: pick Gadgetbridge for control and reduced dependence on the official cloud, accepting more setup work and feature gaps.
4. Sleep as Android — best for advanced sleep alarms
Best for: smart alarms, sleep analysis and a sleep-focused history beyond Zepp’s standard dashboard. Sleep as Android’s compatibility page lists numerous Amazfit and Zepp models, including examples from the T-Rex, GTS, GTR, Bip, Bip 5, Bip 6, Active and Balance families.
The required bridge differs by model and may be Notify, Gadgetbridge or another supported companion. Check the exact model on the official supported-wearables list before paying or changing your setup.
Running Zepp and a bridge simultaneously can produce duplicate records, extra battery use or synchronization conflicts. Sleep results depend on sensor capability, fit, permissions and bridge access; they are not medical diagnosis.
Bottom line: use Sleep as Android with one verified bridge when sleep alarms and analysis are more important than keeping everything inside Zepp.
5. Strava — best for runners and cyclists
Best for: social activity sharing, route history, segments and performance records independent of Amazfit’s dashboard.

To connect it, open Zepp > Profile > 3rd-party account linking > Strava, sign in, authorize access and enable activity uploads. New activities recorded with an Amazfit watch can then sync through Zepp. Strava says an Amazfit watch cannot be directly connected to the Strava Android app for recording its heart-rate stream.

That means installing Strava does not turn the watch into a native Strava recorder. Historical imports, workout types and fields may also be limited. See Strava’s Amazfit instructions.
Bottom line: choose Strava for an athlete community and long-term activity history; keep Zepp as the bridge.
6. komoot — best for hiking and route planning
Best for: discovering and planning walking, hiking and cycling routes. Amazfit lists komoot among Zepp-connected services, but the route-transfer and on-watch navigation experience depends on the watch model, Zepp OS version, region and available mini-app.
Do not assume every Amazfit watch provides full turn-by-turn navigation. Map regions and premium plans also vary by country. Visit komoot and verify your model’s workflow before purchasing maps.
Bottom line: pick komoot when route planning matters more than social leaderboards.
7. TrainingPeaks — best for structured training
Best for: runners, cyclists, triathletes and coached athletes following a calendar of planned workouts. TrainingPeaks complements Zepp with planning and coach-athlete workflows rather than replacing device management.
Amazfit lists TrainingPeaks as a Zepp-connected service, but synchronization direction, workout types and structured-workout execution differ by model. Premium planning and coaching features are paid services in many markets. Check the TrainingPeaks service and your watch documentation before assuming two-way workout sync.
Bottom line: it is worthwhile mainly when you already use a coach or structured endurance plan.

8. adidas Running — best for running goals
Best for: guided goals, challenges, running history and a dedicated running interface. Amazfit lists adidas Running among Zepp’s supported services, but the connection generally passes through Zepp rather than pairing directly with the watch.
Available metrics, synchronization direction, branding and premium plans can change. Verify the current Android listing and your region before signing up. It is a running platform, not a replacement for Zepp’s pairing, firmware or watch-face functions.
Bottom line: consider it when you want a running-focused experience and prefer guided goals to Strava’s social emphasis.
9. Google Health and Health Connect — best for a central Android health record
Best for: combining Amazfit information with other Android health and fitness apps. Current Android guidance emphasizes Google Health and Health Connect; older articles that simply say “Google Fit” are incomplete.
The usual path is watch to Zepp, then Zepp to Health Connect and permitted destination apps. Google says to sync the watch regularly to Zepp for timely updates. Enable each data category explicitly and watch for duplicate steps, workouts or heart-rate records when multiple apps write the same type.
This is a data-sharing layer, not a pairing, firmware, watch-face or full Amazfit-management replacement. Sync may be delayed and some metrics may not transfer. See Google’s current guidance.
Bottom line: use it to consolidate Android health data, while keeping Zepp for the watch itself.

Bottom line: use Tasker only when you have a specific automation to build; it is overkill for ordinary notification needs.
Which app should you install?
- Just bought an Amazfit: Zepp.
- Want quick replies and custom notifications: Notify, after checking model support.
- Want less cloud dependence: Gadgetbridge, after reading its model-specific instructions.
- Care most about sleep: Sleep as Android plus the required Notify or Gadgetbridge bridge.
- Run or cycle socially: Zepp plus Strava.
- Hike or plan routes: Zepp plus komoot.
- Follow a coach: Zepp plus TrainingPeaks.
- Want a running-focused app: adidas Running through Zepp.
- Use several Android health apps: Zepp plus Health Connect.
- Need custom automations: Notify plus Tasker.
Setup rules that prevent most problems
- Confirm the exact model. Check the watch name, Zepp OS generation, Android version and the specialist app’s compatibility list.
- Start with one companion. Zepp, Notify and Gadgetbridge can compete for Bluetooth access, duplicate notifications and duplicate health records. Test one configuration for several days before adding another.
- Allow required permissions. Review notification access, nearby-device/Bluetooth, location where requested, health data and background activity.
- Relax battery restrictions. Android can stop background companions, causing missing notifications or delayed sync.
- Link services inside Zepp. For Strava and other integrations, connect the account in Zepp rather than assuming the phone app can see the watch directly.
- Keep Zepp until alternatives are proven. Firmware updates, authentication keys, proprietary metrics and newer Zepp OS features may still depend on it.
Troubleshooting
Notifications do not appear
Confirm notification access for Zepp or Notify, enable the target app under the companion’s notification list, grant Bluetooth permissions, relax battery optimization and check Do Not Disturb, sleep mode and watch-side filters. The official menu is usually Devices > [model] > Notification and Reminders > App Notification, with wording differences by version.
Strava sync fails
Link Strava inside Zepp, enable uploads, sync the workout to Zepp first and verify that its activity type is supported. Do not expect the Strava phone app to directly record the Amazfit heart-rate stream.
Sleep as Android cannot see the watch
Check the exact model on Sleep as Android’s list, install only the required bridge, grant Bluetooth/body-sensor/background permissions and decide which app should retain the authoritative record.
Gadgetbridge will not pair
Consult the current Zepp OS instructions. A newer watch may require an authentication key obtained through the official app. Do not remove Zepp before confirming that you can obtain or recover that key.
Health Connect is missing data
Sync the watch to Zepp, enable the relevant Health Connect permissions for Zepp and the destination app, check supported data types and remove competing write sources if duplicates appear. Google’s documentation notes that updates may not be immediate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Zepp required to set up an Amazfit watch?
For the broadest support, yes. Zepp is the official app for pairing, firmware updates, device settings, watch faces and core health syncing. Notify or Gadgetbridge can supplement or partially replace it on selected models, but neither is universally interchangeable.
Can I use Strava without Zepp?
The standard Amazfit-to-Strava workflow uses Zepp to upload activities. Installing Strava alone does not create a direct Amazfit recording connection, including for the watch’s heart-rate stream.
Can Notify or Gadgetbridge replace Zepp completely?
Sometimes partially, depending on the exact model and required features. Firmware, proprietary metrics, coaching, payments and newer Zepp OS functions may still require Zepp.
The Bottom Line
Keep the stack small: Zepp only for most owners; Zepp + Strava for social running or cycling; Zepp + Sleep as Android for advanced sleep; Notify + Tasker for automation; and Gadgetbridge when privacy and local control outweigh easy setup. Verify model support before installing a second companion.
