To change Siri’s spoken volume on Apple Watch, either turn the Digital Crown while Siri is speaking for a quick adjustment, or open Settings → Siri → Siri Responses → Voice Volume to set a preferred level. You can also ask Siri to “speak louder” or “speak quieter.” These controls adjust Siri’s voice—not necessarily alerts, alarms, or music.
1. Adjust the volume while Siri is speaking
- Activate Siri and ask a question or give a command that produces a spoken response.
- While Siri is speaking, rotate the Digital Crown: turn it up to make Siri louder or down to make Siri quieter.
This is the fastest option when Siri is already answering. Timing matters: the Crown does not act as a universal volume dial. If you turn it while music is playing or Siri is not speaking, you may change a different audio level instead. Apple describes this live adjustment in its Apple Watch volume and haptics guide.
2. Set Siri’s preferred voice volume
For a more deliberate baseline, use the Siri-specific control on the watch:
- Open Settings on Apple Watch.
- Tap Siri, then Siri Responses.
- Scroll to Voice Volume and adjust the slider. The manual slider goes up to 100%.
If you see an automatic-volume option, you can use it instead of choosing only a fixed level. On supported models, Automatically Adjust Volume responds to ambient noise, with levels labeled Default, Louder, and Quieter. Apple lists Apple Watch SE 3, Series 9, Ultra 2, and later models as supporting this feature. Availability depends on model and software, so do not worry if the option is absent. Automatic adjustment also has a maximum; it does not promise to make Siri as loud as the manual slider’s top setting in every situation. See Apple’s current English-language instructions for details.

Change the setting from your iPhone
You can reach the same Siri controls in the Apple Watch app: tap My Watch → Siri → Siri Responses, then adjust the available voice-volume controls. This is useful if you prefer the iPhone screen to navigating menus on the watch. It is still the Siri-specific setting, not the general sound control. Apple says settings are managed on either device and kept in sync; see its guide to changing Apple Watch settings.
Use a voice command
Apple documents the commands “Hey Siri, speak louder” and “Hey Siri, speak quieter.” They offer a hands-free alternative when Siri is available to listen. The exact wording or behavior may differ with Siri’s language, watchOS version, and whether Siri is listening or speaking, so treat these as Apple’s English examples rather than universal phrases. Apple’s Siri volume and speaking-rate instructions list them.

Why the volume may still seem wrong
- Sounds & Haptics changed alerts, not Siri. System sounds such as alerts, alarms, and timers, Siri’s spoken responses, and media have separate volume controls. For Siri, go to Siri Responses → Voice Volume.
- The Crown changed media volume. Use it while Siri is actively speaking, rather than while music or other media is playing.
- Automatic adjustment is missing or not loud enough. The option is limited to supported newer models and may cap volume. Check Voice Volume for the manual slider if available.
- You may be hearing VoiceOver rather than Siri. VoiceOver has separate speech-volume controls under Settings → Accessibility → VoiceOver; its volume is not necessarily Siri’s. See Apple’s VoiceOver guide.
- Siri is silent, not merely quiet. Raising the slider may not fix an absent spoken response. Check Siri’s response settings and whether the watch is in an unexpected audio state; restarting the watch or updating watchOS are reasonable troubleshooting steps, but are not guaranteed cures. Audio routing can also vary, so avoid assuming one volume control governs every headphone or Bluetooth setup.
| Option | Best for | Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Digital Crown during Siri’s answer | Quick correction in the moment | Requires Siri to be speaking |
| Voice Volume slider | A chosen baseline level | Requires navigating to Siri Responses |
| Automatic adjustment | Moving between quieter and noisier places | Supported models only; has a maximum |
| Voice command | Hands-free adjustment | Wording can vary by language and Siri behavior |
