A few setup changes can make the Galaxy Watch7 quieter, more comfortable at night, and easier to use—without switching off the features you bought it for. Start by updating the watch, then tune notifications, Sleep mode, gestures, battery settings, and Samsung Health. Menu names and feature availability can vary by watch software, phone, carrier, and region.
Before you start: Charge the watch, pair it using the Galaxy Wearable app, and check whether yours is the 40mm or 44mm Bluetooth or LTE model. Sign in to your Samsung account if you want Samsung services such as health-data syncing or backups. The setup and available features can differ between compatible Android phones.
1. Update the watch and its apps before customizing
Updates can fix problems and add features, so do this before relying on a particular menu or gesture. Samsung’s software documentation for the Watch7 describes changes introduced after launch, including notification and gesture options. Updates do not necessarily arrive at the same time in every country or for every model.

- On the phone, open Galaxy Wearable.
- Tap Watch settings → Watch software update and follow the prompts. On the watch, look under Settings → Software update.
- Update watch apps if Galaxy Wearable or the watch’s Play Store offers updates.
Keep the watch charged and the phone nearby while an update installs. If it fails, check both devices’ battery levels and connections, restart the phone and watch, then try again. An LTE model’s carrier may affect update timing. 2. Keep only the notifications you want on your wrist
A watch is more useful when it alerts you to the things that matter instead of duplicating every phone notification. On your phone, open Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → Notifications. Turn on the apps you want, then review the app list and switch off low-value alerts such as promotions, games, or social recommendations.
Calls, messages, calendar reminders, navigation, and security alerts are sensible starting points. You can also review whether alerts appear on the watch, the phone, or both. On supported software, Smart device selection can route notifications to the phone while you are using it and to the watch when you are not; Always show on both keeps them on both devices. Labels and choices may differ by Galaxy Wearable version and phone. Samsung describes these later Watch7 notification options in its software documentation.
If alerts stop arriving, check that the watch is paired over Bluetooth, the relevant apps are enabled in Galaxy Wearable, and the phone has granted notification access. Also check whether Do Not Disturb or Sleep mode is active. Notifications appearing only when the phone is idle may be the intended behavior of Smart device selection, not a fault. Reply options depend on the app and notification; LTE does not make every phone app independently usable.

3. Schedule Sleep mode instead of silencing the watch by hand
Sleep mode can make the watch less disruptive overnight by controlling interruptions and screen behavior. Depending on your setup and software, options may include notification sounds, Always On Display, raise-to-wake, and other ways the screen wakes. It can also help prevent accidental wake-ups. It may reduce screen activity, but battery savings are not guaranteed.
On a Samsung phone, open Settings → Modes and Routines → Sleep to set a schedule. Edit the mode and add watch actions if they are offered—for example, turning off Always On Display or raise-to-wake. Confirm that alarms remain enabled. On the watch, look in the Quick panel for Sleep mode, or in Settings for Modes or notification controls; the path varies with One UI Watch. Samsung documents how phone modes can control watch settings here.
Sleep mode, Do Not Disturb, and Theater mode are not interchangeable: their effects depend on the settings you choose. If a phone mode activates but the watch does not follow, check that the watch is paired and included among the mode’s connected-device actions. If an alarm is important, verify which device will sound or vibrate it and test the setting before relying on it.

4. Try double-pinch for quick, hands-free control
Double-pinch lets you perform certain actions with a gesture instead of tapping the screen. Samsung’s Watch7 update notes describe uses that can include viewing notification details, replying in supported contexts, controlling music, and taking pictures. The available actions depend on software and context.
On the watch, open Settings and look under Buttons and gestures or Advanced features → Gestures. Turn on Double pinch and review the assigned actions. Try it first with music playback or a notification. If you cannot find the control, update the watch; a gesture described in newer Watch7 documentation may not be available on an older build.
Gestures can take practice. A loose fit, sleeves, wrist position, or movement can make them harder to detect, and an action may only work on a particular screen. Samsung’s Watch7 software notes also describe other gesture changes, but you do not need to learn them all at once.

5. Improve battery life with targeted changes
Battery use depends on settings and habits, including display activity, LTE, GPS, health measurements, and notifications. Instead of disabling everything, change the settings that matter to you and keep an eye on what you actually use.
- Power saving: Swipe down to open the Quick panel and tap Power saving when you need to stretch the remaining charge. It limits some functions, so it is better as an on-demand option than a default if you rely on those features.
- Display: In Settings → Display, review Always On Display, brightness, and screen timeout. Turning off Always On Display or reducing brightness can use less power, at the cost of glanceability or readability.
- Nighttime: Schedule Sleep or Theater mode if you want to limit screen wake-ups. The benefit depends on how your watch is configured.
- Connections: Review Settings → Connections. LTE can be useful away from your phone, but a cellular plan is required and standalone use may consume more battery. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and mobile-network controls and behavior vary by model and configuration.
- Health and workouts: Review measurement frequency and automatic workout detection in the watch’s health settings or Samsung Health. Less frequent measurements may mean less continuous data; disable only options you do not need.
Samsung’s official specifications describe battery figures based on laboratory testing and typical-use scenarios, not guaranteed endurance for every owner. Samsung’s support hub includes battery and charging guidance. Use the supplied or officially compatible charging accessory; do not assume every wireless pad or phone supports Watch7 charging or Wireless PowerShare.
6. Set up Samsung Health and give measurements the right context
For more consistent tracking, wear the watch snugly enough for the sensors to maintain skin contact without making it uncomfortable. In the Samsung Health app on your phone, complete your profile, grant the permissions you want to use, and confirm the watch is connected. Review sleep, heart-rate, stress, and activity settings rather than assuming every feature is already configured.

- Next-Generation 3nm Processor: Exynos W1000 chipset delivers significantly faster performance and smoother app navigation.
Wear the watch consistently overnight before drawing conclusions from sleep trends, and start a workout manually when accurate exercise timing matters. Automatic detection can miss or misclassify an activity. Samsung’s Watch7 support materials cover sleep and step tracking. Later Watch7 documentation also describes features such as Running Coach and Bedtime Guidance, but availability may depend on your region, phone, account, app version, and watch software.
Heart-rate, sleep, blood-oxygen, sleep-apnea, ECG, blood-pressure, and other health features are not interchangeable with a medical diagnosis. Availability and regulatory status vary by feature and location, and some functions require a compatible Samsung phone or other specific setup. Fit, movement, skin contact, tattoos or skin conditions, temperature, and sensor or software limitations can affect readings. If you have symptoms or are concerned about a reading, speak with a qualified medical professional rather than changing treatment based on the watch.
Quick fixes when something is missing or not working
| Problem | First checks |
|---|---|
| Notifications are missing | Check Bluetooth pairing, phone notification access, the app list in Galaxy Wearable, and Do Not Disturb or Sleep mode. |
| Battery drains faster than expected | Review Always On Display, brightness, LTE use, GPS activity, notifications, and measurement settings. Battery use can also change during setup or after an update. |
| Double-pinch does not work | Confirm the gesture is enabled, try its assigned action in a supported context, adjust the fit, and check for a watch update. |
| Sleep data is incomplete | Check fit and skin contact, wear the watch consistently overnight, and confirm Samsung Health permissions and settings. |
| An update fails | Charge the watch, check phone and watch connections, restart both devices, and retry. Carrier or regional rollout timing may differ. |
| A feature or menu is missing | Check watch software, phone model, app version, region, and carrier requirements. Some features are limited to particular devices or markets. |
For most setup problems, update Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health, and the watch, then restart both devices and recheck permissions and pairing. Back up where possible before considering a reset. The Samsung Watch7 support hub provides model-specific help; its instructions are for the listed Canadian support models, so local availability and labels may differ.
