The Amazfit Active Max launched on December 30, 2025, as a larger, brighter, endurance-focused member of Amazfit’s Active range. Amazfit rates its 658mAh battery for up to 25 days in typical use and its 1.5-inch AMOLED display for up to 3,000 nits peak brightness. The US list price was $169.99 when checked, although Amazfit has also shown a temporary $139.99 promotion.
It is an unusually capable fitness watch for the money, particularly if you value infrequent charging, a large outdoor-readable screen, onboard storage and imported-route navigation. It is not an Apple Watch or Wear OS replacement: third-party music apps cannot be installed directly, Bluetooth calling still depends on a phone, and offline maps are not unrestricted turn-by-turn navigation.

The 25-day figure is a ceiling under Amazfit’s defined typical-use scenario, not a guaranteed result for every owner. That scenario uses default brightness and a static watch face, disables the voice assistant, checks heart rate every five minutes, enables sleep and respiratory monitoring, limits Bluetooth calls and music, records three 30-minute GPS workouts per week, and assumes 100 wrist raises, 150 notifications, three incoming calls and five minutes of screen use per day.

Always-on display, frequent GPS sessions, music or podcast playback, Bluetooth calls, high brightness, more frequent health measurements and heavy screen interaction will shorten endurance. Poor Bluetooth connections can also cause repeated reconnections and extra drain. Independent coverage has found the 25-day claim plausible, but your settings and workout pattern matter more than the headline number. Think of it as one of the watch’s strongest advantages when used lightly to moderately, rather than a universal everyday result.
A large, bright AMOLED display
The 1.5-inch, 480 × 480 AMOLED gives maps, workout screens and notifications more room than smaller Active models. AMOLED brings high contrast and vivid colour, while the claimed 3,000-nit figure is a peak brightness specification aimed primarily at sunlight visibility. It should not be read as the interface running continuously at 3,000 nits in every mode.
The case measures 48.5mm across, so the screen is an advantage for readability but can feel bulky on smaller wrists. The strengthened glass has an anti-fingerprint coating. It is not sapphire: Amazfit’s similarly priced Active 3 Premium uses sapphire glass, an important consideration for buyers who are hard on their watches or prioritise scratch resistance. Using the Active Max’s always-on display also cuts the company’s battery estimate to up to 10 days.
Fitness and health features
Amazfit lists more than 170 workout modes, including Smart Strength Training that can automatically identify repetitions, sets and rest periods across 25 exercise types. Zepp Coach creates adaptive plans, with running plans for 3K, 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon distances.

Training metrics include VO₂ Max, Training Load, Training Effect, recovery time and PAI. Health tools cover continuous heart-rate tracking, sleep, blood oxygen, stress and respiratory quality, alongside BioCharge energy monitoring and RestoreIQ sleep analysis. A one-tap measurement combines heart rate, stress, blood oxygen and breathing rate.
These are wellness and training tools, not medical diagnostics. Readings depend on fit, skin contact, movement, activity type and software. Zepp Coach is adaptive software guidance, not a human coach or clinical recommendation.
GPS, offline maps and phone-free use
The watch has five-satellite positioning systems and can store terrain and ski maps. Amazfit’s documentation describes offline map browsing using imported OpenStreetMap files. For route navigation, the map must cover your location and a route file must be imported first. The watch cannot simply accept an arbitrary destination on an offline map and calculate a conventional road or trail route. Navigation is limited to outdoor sports modes, and straight-line guidance back toward a start point is not the same as practical trail navigation.

That makes the Active Max useful for planned hikes, rides and runs, but not a standalone replacement for a phone mapping app or a full Garmin-style navigation system.

Music, podcasts, calls and software
There is 4GB of storage, and Amazfit advertises up to 100 hours of podcast playback. Podcast support was announced as a software update arriving in February 2026. However, third-party music apps cannot be installed directly on the watch. The Active Max can control music playing on a connected phone, but do not assume native Spotify, Pandora or similar services unless your regional product page explicitly confirms them.
Bluetooth calls and texts are supported through a paired phone. The built-in microphone and speaker do not provide cellular service. Zepp Flow voice control is available only in selected countries and regions, with language and feature support dependent on software and location. App availability can likewise vary.
The watch works with iPhone and Android phones, including Samsung and Google devices, but setup, synchronisation, health data, plans and updates require the Zepp app. Amazfit says the core watch and Zepp app do not require a monthly subscription.
Build, sensors and water resistance
The aluminium-alloy frame surrounds a polymer case with two buttons. Sensors include an accelerometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor, barometric altimeter, ambient-light sensor and temperature sensor. Bluetooth/BLE 5.3, a speaker and microphone are built in.

5 ATM water resistance is intended for ordinary swimming and surface exposure under applicable conditions. It is not a promise of suitability for scuba diving, high-pressure water or every water sport, and a pressure rating should not be treated as a literal 50-metre dive rating.

Both models were listed at $169.99 on Amazfit’s US site when checked, but they target different buyers:
- Choose Active Max for the larger 1.5-inch display, the strongest battery emphasis, 4GB storage and a screen that is easier to read during everyday use and outdoor workouts.
- Choose Active 3 Premium for sapphire glass, more running-oriented features and a more training-focused specification set. Its smaller display and different battery positioning may matter less if durability and running metrics come first.
Amazfit’s lower-cost Active 2 models make more sense if you want the Zepp health-and-fitness platform for less and do not need the Max’s screen, storage or 25-day rating.

- Good fit: users who want multi-day or multi-week battery life, a large bright display, sleep tracking without nightly charging, broad workout coverage, planned-route navigation and no required subscription.
- Think twice: buyers who need LTE independence, a deep third-party app ecosystem, native music streaming apps, full iPhone integration, Google services, Garmin-level navigation or sapphire glass.
- Check the fit: the 48.5mm case is large; smaller wrists may prefer a more compact watch.
Verdict
The Amazfit Active Max is compelling at around $170 when battery life, screen visibility and fitness breadth matter more than app depth. Its “up to 25 days” claim is credible as a company-defined typical-use maximum, and the 3,000-nit AMOLED should be excellent for outdoor readability. Just buy it for what it is: a long-running fitness smartwatch with imported-route maps and phone-connected smart features, not a cellular Apple Watch, Wear OS app platform or unrestricted navigation computer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Amazfit Active Max have cellular connectivity?
No. Calls and texts are Bluetooth features that require a paired phone; the watch is not an LTE smartwatch.
Can the Active Max install Spotify or other music apps?
No third-party music apps can be installed directly. It stores podcasts and can control music playing on a connected phone.
Is offline navigation turn-by-turn?
Only in a limited sense. You must import matching map data and a route file, and navigation works within outdoor sports modes rather than calculating any destination on demand.
