The Amazfit Active Max is no longer just a leak. Amazfit officially announced the smartwatch on December 30, 2025, and its U.S. store lists it at $169.99. The final watch keeps the headline promise of up to 25 days of battery life in typical use, but it also has a larger 658mAh battery than the 576mAh cell reported in the original leak.
From leaked smartwatch to shipping product
The original Amazfit Active Max leak appeared on December 9, 2025, describing a large fitness smartwatch with a 1.5-inch display, 576mAh battery, 4GB of storage, GPS, NFC, Bluetooth 5.3 and 50-meter water resistance. The leak also pointed to a price of roughly $169.99.
Most of that information was directionally accurate, but the battery capacity was not final. Launch coverage identifies the shipping watch as having a 658mAh battery. Amazfit subsequently confirmed the 25-day endurance positioning and began selling the watch in multiple markets.

The official U.S. announcement came on December 30, 2025. Amazfit lists the Active Max for $169.99 in the United States; launch pricing was £169.90 in the U.K. and ¥28,900 in Japan.

The key correction is simple: 576mAh was the leaked figure, not the confirmed capacity of the retail watch.
How long does the Amazfit Active Max battery last?
Amazfit rates the Active Max for up to 25 days with typical use. Launch coverage also reports up to 13 days with heavy use and up to 64 hours of continuous GPS tracking.
- Up to 25 days: typical smartwatch use.
- Up to 13 days: heavier use.
- Up to 64 hours: continuous GPS tracking, rather than normal smartwatch operation.
These figures are operating-mode ratings, not a promise that every owner will see 25 days between charges. Battery life can fall substantially with frequent GPS workouts, an always-on display, high brightness, Bluetooth calls, audio playback, continuous heart-rate or blood-oxygen monitoring, sleep and stress tracking, frequent notifications, voice workout broadcasts and poor temperatures. Amazfit’s manual also warns that continuous workout-status monitoring can significantly reduce endurance.
That makes the 25-day claim credible as a typical-use maximum, but it should not be compared directly with the 64-hour GPS figure. A runner who records long GPS workouts several times a week should plan around the heavier-use rating rather than the headline number. GPS combined with music playback may reduce endurance further.

Tom’s Guide’s testing broadly supported Amazfit’s battery claim, while finding that GPS accuracy and navigation usability were less consistent than on comparable Garmin and Apple watches.

The unusually bright screen is one of the Active Max’s strongest hardware features. Up to 3,000 nits should improve outdoor readability, particularly for runners and hikers viewing workout data in direct sunlight.
Fitness, strength training and outdoor use
The Active Max is designed for general fitness, gym training, running, hiking and wellness tracking rather than one narrow sport. Amazfit lists more than 170 workout modes, while smart strength-training recognition can automatically detect repetitions, sets and rest periods for 25 exercises at launch.

These features make the watch more capable than a basic step tracker, although training insights should not automatically be treated as equivalent to the deeper performance analytics found on higher-end Garmin devices.

The watch is a reasonable choice for casual runners and outdoor users who value long endurance, a bright display and a lower price. It is less compelling for serious competitive athletes who need the most dependable GPS distance, elevation data, route navigation and training-platform integration. Independent testing found occasional inflation or undercounting of location, distance and elevation data compared with Garmin and Apple alternatives.
For that reason, “Garmin alternative” is a fair description for budget-conscious or recreational training, but calling the Active Max a universal Garmin replacement would overstate its strengths.

Select an area, add it to the download list and confirm the download on the watch. During a GPS workout, the map can appear on the real-time track page once the relevant map resource has been downloaded.
This is useful when hiking or running away from reliable phone coverage, but it is not automatically equivalent to the full turn-by-turn navigation experience of a dedicated outdoor GPS watch. Maps generally need to be downloaded before leaving coverage, and availability or functionality may vary by region and software version.

The 4GB of storage supports music-related use and up to 100 hours of podcast playback according to Amazfit’s product page. However, storage should not be confused with native streaming-app support. Amazfit says third-party music apps such as Spotify and Pandora cannot be installed directly on the watch; the Active Max can control music playing on a connected phone.
Bluetooth calling is included, making it possible to handle calls through a paired phone. The watch also supports Zepp Pay in supported markets, but NFC hardware does not guarantee universal contactless payments.

The manual lists Zepp Pay support for selected EMEA countries, including the U.K., Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Norway. That list does not establish universal support in the United States. Before buying, check compatibility for your country, bank and card.
Phone compatibility and setup caveats
The Active Max works with both iPhone and Android phones through the Zepp app. Supported integrations include Strava, adidas Running, TrainingPeaks, komoot, Relive, Google Fit and Apple Health, although availability varies by country and platform. Apple Health is available on iOS, while Google Fit is available on Android.
Android users may need to allow Zepp to run in the background or add it to the phone’s auto-run or battery-optimization allowlist. If Android terminates the app, notifications, music controls and Bluetooth connectivity may stop working reliably.

- Long-battery-life shoppers: The 25-day typical-use rating is the main reason to choose it over a conventional daily-charging smartwatch.
- Outdoor users on a budget: Offline maps, GPS and a bright display are unusual at $169.99.
- General fitness users: The workout, sleep and wellness features cover a broad range of everyday needs.
- iPhone and Android owners: It is not restricted to one phone platform.
Who should skip it?
- Serious runners and endurance athletes: Garmin and similar sports ecosystems remain safer choices when GPS consistency, elevation and advanced analytics matter most.
- Small-wrist users: The 48.5mm case is large. Try it on first, or consider a smaller model such as the Amazfit Active 2.
- Cellular-watch buyers: The Active Max does not provide cellular connectivity.
- Standalone streaming listeners: It stores audio and controls phone playback, but does not offer direct installation of Spotify-style third-party music apps.
- U.S. payment users: Do not assume Zepp Pay will work with your bank or region.
- Divers: 5 ATM water resistance is not a blanket guarantee for every underwater activity.
How it compares with alternatives

The Active Max’s advantage is not that it matches every premium competitor. Its value comes from combining a very long claimed battery life, a bright AMOLED display, offline maps and broad fitness tracking at a relatively low price.
Verdict
The Amazfit Active Max started as a credible leak and became a real product with a stronger battery specification than initially reported. At $169.99 in the U.S., its combination of a 658mAh battery, up to 25 days of typical-use endurance, 3,000-nit AMOLED screen, GPS, offline maps and 4GB storage is compelling.
The important qualification is how those features perform in practice. The 25-day figure is a manufacturer-rated typical-use maximum; heavy use is rated at up to 13 days and continuous GPS at up to 64 hours. GPS precision and navigation may trail Garmin and Apple, the case is large, Zepp Pay is region-limited, and music storage is not the same as native streaming apps.
Choose the Active Max if charging frequency, screen brightness and broad fitness features matter more than best-in-class GPS or a deep smartwatch ecosystem. Choose Garmin or Apple instead if training precision, platform integration or cellular features are your priorities.
