The Amazfit Active Max leak was substantially accurate, but the watch is no longer an upcoming product. Roland Quandt’s December 8, 2025 leak pointed to a 1.5-inch display, a large 576mAh battery, 4GB of storage, GPS, NFC, 5 ATM water resistance and a price of €169.90. Amazfit officially launched the Active Max in the US on December 30, 2025, at $169; its current US store listing shows $169.99.
The final watch broadly delivered the leaked headline specifications, alongside a 3,000-nit AMOLED display, 170-plus sports modes, offline maps and a claimed battery life of up to 25 days. The important qualifications are that some leak-only details were not repeated on Amazfit’s official US announcement, and the Active Max’s navigation and fitness accuracy do not match the best Garmin or Apple alternatives.
What the Amazfit Active Max leak revealed
The original leak came from technology leaker Roland Quandt on December 8, 2025. It was a compact specification list rather than a complete, independently verified product sheet.
Contemporary coverage also reported that Amazfit had briefly published what appeared to be a draft product listing containing renders and additional information before removing it. That gave the leak more context, but it was still pre-launch material—not an official announcement.

Quandt’s post listed a 1.5-inch OLED display with 480 × 480 resolution, a 576mAh battery, 4GB of storage, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, GPS, 50-meter water resistance and a €169.90 European price. The final product confirmed much of the overall picture, although not every detail was restated in Amazfit’s official US launch material.
Leak versus reality

The safest reading is that the leak got the product’s positioning and most important hardware right. It should not be used to turn every individual specification into a universally confirmed global feature.
Design and renders
The leaked renders showed a round watch face, a large display with relatively slim-looking bezels and two physical buttons on the right side. The styling was clearly sport-oriented, and the watch appeared larger than the Amazfit Active 2.

Amazfit’s final description adds a lightweight aluminum-alloy construction and pivoted lugs. A later review lists the case at 48.5 × 48.5 × 12.2mm and the weight at 39.5g, describing a combination of aluminum and plastic. Those post-launch measurements should not be presented as facts visible in the original renders.
The size is central to the buying decision. The Active Max gives you more screen and battery, but it is relatively large and thick. Users with smaller wrists may find the Active 2 more comfortable, even if they prefer the Max’s brighter display and longer endurance.
Display: 1.5-inch AMOLED and up to 3,000 nits
The finished watch has a 1.5-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. Amazfit’s official materials do not prominently repeat the leaked 480 × 480 resolution, so that figure should remain attributed to the original leak.
The brightness is a major advantage over cheaper watches, particularly outdoors. However, 3,000 nits is a peak specification, not a promise that the whole display remains at that level continuously. Outdoor readability also depends on reflections, automatic-brightness behavior and whether the always-on display is enabled.

Tom’s Guide praised the screen’s brightness and readability in its independent review. That is an evaluation of the finished product rather than confirmation of the original render or leak.
Battery: the biggest upgrade on paper
The reported 576mAh battery was the leak’s most attention-grabbing specification because it was substantially larger than the Active 2’s battery, according to contemporary reporting.
In practical terms, the more useful figure is Amazfit’s official claim of up to 25 days of typical battery life. Tom’s Guide reported that its testing broadly matched the advertised longevity and listed a rated 64 hours of full-GPS use.
These figures describe different things:
- 576mAh: the battery capacity reported by the leak and contemporary coverage.
- Up to 25 days: Amazfit’s manufacturer endurance claim under its stated typical-use conditions.
- 64 hours of GPS: a rating reported in independent review coverage.
Actual runtime will fall with frequent GPS workouts, an always-on display, Bluetooth calls, health monitoring, music or podcast playback and heavy notification use. A large battery is a strength, but “25 days” should not be treated as a guaranteed result for every user.
Fitness and health features
The Active Max supports more than 170 sports modes and includes Smart Strength Training, which can automatically detect repetitions, sets and rest periods across 25 exercises. It also includes Zepp Coach adaptive training plans and BioCharge energy monitoring.
Amazfit lists heart-rate, blood-oxygen, stress and sleep monitoring through its BioTracker PPG sensor. The watch also supports GPS-based outdoor activity tracking and training metrics such as VO2 Max, Training Load and Training Effect.
These features make the Active Max a broad fitness watch rather than a basic step counter. They do not make it a medical device: wellness readings and alerts should not be treated as clinical diagnoses or substitutes for professional medical advice.

Storage, calls and smart features
The 4GB of onboard storage was one of the leak’s details that was confirmed. Amazfit says the watch can hold up to 100 hours of podcasts, although the actual amount depends on audio quality and file conditions.
The watch also supports:
- Bluetooth phone calls through a paired smartphone.
- Offline map downloads.
- Android message replies, including a full QWERTY keyboard and speech-to-text.
- Zepp Flow voice-command functionality.
- iPhone and Android compatibility.
- Integrations including Strava, adidas Running, TrainingPeaks, komoot, Relive, Google Fit and Apple Health, subject to platform and regional limits.
There are important boundaries. Spotify and Pandora cannot be installed directly on the watch; the watch can control music playing on a connected phone. Android users receive message-reply functionality, while Apple Health is iOS-only and Google Fit is Android-only.
Amazfit’s launch announcement said podcast functionality would arrive through a software update in February 2026. That distinction matters: hardware storage capability did not necessarily mean the podcast feature was available on launch day.
Offline maps are useful, but not Garmin-level navigation
Offline maps are an unusually strong feature at this price. Amazfit says users can download maps through the Zepp app, including maps covering more than 2,000 ski resorts with contour details.
Independent testing found a more limited experience than the headline suggests. Map regions are downloaded through the phone app, and navigation requires creating a route in Zepp rather than simply selecting a destination on the watch. Tom’s Guide also found the practical elevation and contour information less useful than expected.

Buyers who want occasional route guidance may find the feature valuable. Dedicated hikers and runners should examine the route workflow before treating it as a replacement for Garmin navigation.
Price and launch date
The leak reported a European price of €169.90. That should remain described as a leaked, market-specific figure rather than converted into a supposed US price.

Availability and pricing can differ by country, so the US listing does not establish the final price in Europe or every other market.
The timeline is therefore:
- December 8, 2025: Roland Quandt posted the leaked specification list.
- December 9, 2025: Contemporary coverage reported the renders, battery, specifications and expected price.
- December 30, 2025: Amazfit officially announced and released the watch in the US.
- February 2026: Podcast functionality was scheduled for a software update.
Active Max versus Amazfit Active 2
The Active 2 is the most obvious alternative within Amazfit’s range.

The Max is not automatically the better choice. Its advantages matter most to users who will benefit from the bigger display, longer battery and maps. If comfort and size are more important, the Active 2 may be the more sensible purchase.

The Active Max offers a brighter AMOLED screen, a much longer claimed battery life, offline maps and broader smartwatch functionality at a lower cited launch price than the Garmin Forerunner 55’s $199 starting price. Garmin discounts can narrow that difference.
Garmin remains the stronger fit for runners who prioritize a mature training ecosystem and consistent location, distance and elevation data. Independent testing found the Active Max’s tracking could lag behind Garmin and Apple in some activities.
It is therefore better described as a value-oriented alternative than a universal Garmin replacement. The Amazfit gives you more hardware and smartwatch features for the money; Garmin’s advantage is the depth and maturity of its training experience.

The Apple Watch remains the stronger choice for iPhone users who want deep Apple integration, a broader app ecosystem, cellular options on supported models and more advanced safety features. The Active Max does not offer the same fall detection, crash detection or medical and emergency feature set.
This is not a direct one-for-one replacement: the Amazfit is a cross-platform, endurance-focused fitness watch, while the Apple Watch is a more deeply integrated smartwatch.
Who should buy the Amazfit Active Max?
The Active Max makes the most sense if you want:
- Long battery life without charging every day.
- A large, bright AMOLED display.
- Broad sports coverage and basic adaptive training guidance.
- Offline maps at a relatively low price.
- Music or podcast storage for workouts away from a phone.
- Compatibility with both Android and iPhone.
It is a weaker fit if you need:
- The smallest or thinnest possible watch.
- The most reliable GPS, distance and elevation tracking.
- Cellular connectivity.
- Fall detection, crash detection or medically oriented health features.
- Spotify or Pandora installed directly on the watch.
- A full third-party app ecosystem comparable with Apple Watch or Wear OS.
Important caveats before buying
5 ATM is not an unrestricted diving guarantee
Amazfit describes 5 ATM as pressure equivalent to 50 meters or 164 feet of static water depth for up to 10 minutes. That is not the same as approval for unrestricted deep-water diving or every high-pressure water activity.
Regional functionality can differ
NFC, payment functions, app integrations, maps, voice features and health functions may vary by country, phone platform and software version. Do not assume that a US product page describes every regional configuration.
Battery estimates depend on usage
Always-on display use, GPS, calls, notifications, health monitoring and audio playback can all reduce the headline battery figure.
Smartwatch features are not the same as a full app ecosystem
The Active Max has storage, calls and phone controls, but it does not offer direct installation of major third-party music apps. Buyers should distinguish local audio storage and remote phone control from the app experience offered by Apple Watch or Wear OS.
Final leak verdict
The Amazfit Active Max leak was a strong one. The renders correctly conveyed the round, large, sport-oriented design, while the headline specifications—large battery, 4GB storage, AMOLED display, GPS positioning, 5 ATM resistance and roughly $169-level pricing—were broadly borne out by the final product.

The launched Active Max is compelling for buyers who value display size, endurance and feature breadth. Its compromises are equally clear: a large case, limited third-party app support, phone-dependent route preparation and tracking that may not match Garmin or Apple in accuracy. The original story was right about the product’s broad shape; the current buying decision depends on whether those trade-offs suit you.
