Amazon announced this Alexa connection on March 4, 2021. When it was available, Halo owners could opt in through the Halo mobile app and ask an Echo or another Alexa-enabled device for selected wellness information, including activity scores, sleep quality, body-composition results and broader health summaries. The Halo Band itself did not become an Alexa device.
Amazon Halo has since been discontinued, so the historical setup described below may no longer function. Treat this as an explanation of the 2021 feature, not as a current activation guide or product recommendation.
What Amazon announced in March 2021
The feature was called “Connect Alexa to Halo.” It linked a user’s Halo account with Alexa so a compatible Echo speaker or other Alexa-enabled device could provide selected Halo information by voice. Amazon said the connection would roll out through an automatic Halo firmware update. The announcement and rollout details were reported by GeekWire.
This was an account integration, not new hardware in the band. You needed a separate Alexa-enabled device in the home; the Halo Band could not hear an Alexa request or speak a reply.

What Alexa could report
Contemporaneous coverage identified these examples:
- an overall health summary;
- an activity score;
- sleep quality or a sleep score;
- body-composition information; and
- other Halo wellness information exposed by the service.
The available reports do not establish a complete, universal command list. Representative requests might have sounded like “Alexa, ask Halo for my activity score,” “Alexa, ask Halo about my sleep,” or “Alexa, ask Halo for my health summary.” Treat those as examples of natural phrasing, not guaranteed verbatim commands for every account, language or region.

These were consumer-wellness outputs. The integration did not diagnose illness, interpret medical results or turn Halo into a clinical monitoring system. Amazon’s description of Halo’s broader AI-powered wellness features is available at About Amazon.
How activation worked when Halo was available
The historical process was app-based and opt-in:
- Open the Amazon Halo app on an iPhone or Android phone.
- Find the “Connect Alexa to Halo” option.
- Choose to link Halo information with Alexa.
- Set an optional voice PIN if you wanted an additional check before information was spoken.
- Ask a compatible Echo or other Alexa-enabled device for a supported Halo metric or summary.
Published coverage confirms the connection control and PIN, but does not preserve a complete menu path beyond that control. Do not assume that old screenshots or instructions using particular Settings or Privacy menus still match the app.

Privacy protections—and the remaining household risk
Health information spoken in a shared room raises a different privacy issue from information viewed on a phone. Amazon reported several safeguards for this integration:
- Activation was optional rather than enabled by default.
- Users could deactivate the Alexa connection.
- A secret voice PIN could be required.
- The PIN session reportedly had a timeout option of about five minutes, allowing follow-up questions during that window without entering it again.
- Halo-related Alexa questions and answers were reportedly excluded from the ordinary Alexa response history.
- Alexa devices were not used for Halo’s tone-of-voice analysis.
- Amazon described separate Halo profile handling intended to reduce accidental access by other household members.
Those controls reduced some accidental disclosure, but they did not make a spoken answer inaudible. Someone nearby could still hear a result after authentication, and a PIN would not prevent intentional sharing or an overheard response. In a shared home, the cautious approach was to use the PIN, keep its timeout short where possible, avoid sensitive requests around guests or roommates, and disable the connection when it was no longer needed.

What the integration could not do
- The band could not answer. Halo was not an Alexa-enabled speaker; every request had to reach a separate Alexa device.
- It did not expose an unlimited data archive. Voice access covered selected metrics and summaries, and availability could vary with device data, account or membership status, supported wording and the state of Amazon’s service.
- It was not medical monitoring. Activity, sleep and body-composition estimates remained wellness features rather than diagnoses.
- It depended on the whole Halo ecosystem. The app, account, firmware, membership conditions and cloud service all had to be operating.
- Tone analysis stayed tied to Halo hardware. Alexa speakers did not replace the band’s microphones for that feature.
Historical costs and rollout context
In March 2021 reporting, the Halo Band was listed at $99.99 with six months of membership included, followed by a reported $3.99-per-month membership. Those were historical US figures, not current prices or an indication that membership can still be purchased.
The Alexa connection arrived as Amazon was expanding Halo beyond the original band. Amazon later announced Halo View, Halo Fitness and Halo Nutrition; its broader product announcement is archived at Amazon’s press site. The Alexa feature was notable because it joined wearable wellness tracking with an always-available voice assistant, while also making private metrics potentially audible in shared spaces.

Why old troubleshooting advice may fail now
Because Amazon Halo has been discontinued, an Alexa failure today does not necessarily indicate a missed setting. Historical causes of problems included an uncompleted opt-in, the wrong Amazon or Halo profile, an app or firmware that had not updated, limited regional rollout, missing recent band data, unsupported wording or account and membership restrictions. A current failure can also simply reflect that the Halo service or its Alexa integration is no longer supported.
Likewise, instructions promising that a band can answer directly, that every Halo measurement is available by voice, or that the skill works today overstate what the 2021 feature did and what can be established now.
Current relevance
This announcement should be read as a historical snapshot dated March 4, 2021. Amazon Halo is no longer an active product line, and the former Alexa connection should not be treated as a dependable current service. The original report remains useful for understanding the design: opt-in voice access to selected wellness summaries through household Alexa hardware, with a PIN and other safeguards that could reduce—but not eliminate—the privacy cost of speaking health information aloud.
