Apple added certified refurbished Apple Watch Series 9 models to its China online store in April 2024. The reported launch price started at RMB 2,499 for a 41mm GPS model; that is historical pricing, not a current offer. In August 2026, Apple’s China store listed a different refurbished Series 9 configuration—a 45mm GPS + Cellular model—for RMB 2,599, with limited inventory. What Apple added to its China store
This was an expansion of Apple China’s Apple Certified Refurbished inventory, not the launch of a new watch generation. The Series 9 debuted in September 2023; refurbished units are previously sold or returned products that Apple processes for resale. That is distinct from an unofficial second-hand watch or a third-party refurbished unit, whose parts, inspection, battery condition, returns and warranty may follow different standards.
Apple says its certified refurbished products undergo functional testing, replacement of defective modules with genuine Apple parts where needed, cleaning, inspection, repackaging and final quality assurance. Apple also says Apple Watch units requiring parts replacement are excluded from its certified-refurbished program. Prices reported at the April 2024 launch
Gizmochina reported the following prices when the refurbished Series 9 appeared in Apple China’s store. The original headline’s approximately $380 conversion referred to the RMB 2,499 starting price; it was not a U.S. retail price. The report also said the refurbished watches were RMB 500–800 cheaper than new Series 9 units, a comparison attributed to that report rather than independently verified here.

What Apple listed later—and why the price can differ
Apple’s China refurbished listing checked in August 2026 showed a 45mm GPS + Cellular Series 9 with a silver aluminum case and Storm Blue Sport Band for RMB 2,599. That listing differs in both configuration and price from the 2024 report; the available information does not establish why. Apple’s refurbished Watch category also surfaces newer models, including Series 11. Since Series 9 is no longer the newest generation, compare the live price with newer refurbished options rather than treating the original RMB 2,499 figure as a present-day bargain. What Series 9 hardware you get
The following are Series 9 specifications, not special features of a refurbished unit. Apple lists an S9 SiP with a 64-bit dual-core processor and four-core Neural Engine, 64GB of storage, and support for the Double Tap gesture.

What comes with Apple-certified refurbishment
Apple says its refurbished products ship with the expected documentation and charging cable, and may have their original operating system or a newer version. The specific Series 9 listing includes the watch, a Sport Band and a 1-meter Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable. The China listing states a one-year limited warranty and a 14-day return policy, and indicates AppleCare may be available for purchase. Confirm eligibility and cost for the exact watch at checkout. Apple’s warranty documentation notes that service availability may be limited by the country or region where Apple or an authorized reseller originally sold the product; statutory consumer protections also apply. Battery life matters especially on a watch, but Apple’s surfaced listing does not promise a specific battery-health percentage or say that every refurbished Series 9 receives a new battery. Apple describes functional testing and its refurbishment process; those statements should not be read as a battery-capacity guarantee. If a specified battery-health floor is essential to you, ask Apple what applies to the exact listing before buying.

Compatibility and cellular limits
Apple states that Series 9 requires an iPhone XS or later running iOS 17 or later. It is not a watch for Android-phone users. Apple’s Series 9 listing
Do not assume a Chinese-market GPS + Cellular model will connect to every carrier abroad. Cellular service depends on the watch variant, supported carrier and region; Apple also warns that some features and services vary by region or language. International buyers should verify carrier compatibility and warranty-service limits before ordering.
Is refurbished Series 9 still worth considering?
It can make sense for an iPhone owner who wants Apple Watch fitness, health, notification and safety features, prefers Apple’s inspection and warranty process, and finds a substantial saving against newer models. The S9 chip, bright display, 64GB storage and Double Tap support remain useful capabilities.

Check Apple’s current Series 9 page and refurbished category together; compare the exact size, connectivity, case and band, price, returns and AppleCare eligibility. A cellular premium is worthwhile only if your carrier supports that configuration and you expect to use the watch away from your iPhone.
