Apple released iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS Tahoe 26.4, watchOS 26.4, and tvOS 26.4 on March 24, 2026. The rollout brought Apple Music features, accessibility changes, and other additions to iPhone and iPad, alongside bug fixes and security updates across Apple’s platforms. These are the original release builds; later 26.x versions have since superseded them.
Apple’s 26.4 rollout at a glance

What changed in iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4?
Apple’s consumer-facing update summary describes a broad set of additions for iPhone and iPad. The iPad shares many of the listed changes, but Apple’s material does not establish a major iPad-exclusive multitasking or window-management feature for this release.
Apple Music additions
- Playlist Playground beta creates a playlist from a description and provides a title, description, and track list.
- Concerts helps users find nearby shows by artists in their library and suggests additional artists.
- Offline Music Recognition in Control Center returns results automatically after connectivity is restored.
- An Ambient Music widget provides access to Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing playlists.
- Supported album and playlist pages can use full-screen backgrounds.
Accessibility, input, and everyday tools
- Reduce Bright Effects adds an accessibility setting to reduce bright flashes when interacting with onscreen elements.
- Subtitle and caption settings are easier to reach from the captions control while media is playing.
- Reduce Motion behaves more reliably with Liquid Glass animations.
- The keyboard has improved accuracy when typing quickly.
- Reminders can be marked urgent, and urgent items can be filtered in Smart Lists.
- Freeform adds image-creation and editing tools and a premium content library connected with Apple Creator Studio.
- Purchase Sharing lets adult members of a Family Sharing group use their own payment method for purchases.
Emoji and audio-device support
The update adds eight emoji, including an orca, trombone, landslide, ballet dancer, and distorted face, and adds support for AirPods Max 2.
Availability is not uniform. Apple notes that features can depend on country or region, language, device, Apple Music access, or account setup; Playlist Playground is labeled beta. Its feature summary, UK summary, and Ireland summary do not present exactly the same feature lists.

Compatible iPhone and iPad models
Apple lists these devices as compatible with the 26.4 branches:
- iOS 26.4: iPhone 11 and later.
- iPadOS 26.4: iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (8th generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later).
Apple’s security-update listing identifies these compatible models. Devices outside the list may receive a separate update for an older software branch rather than iOS or iPadOS 26.4.
What Mac users need to know about macOS Tahoe 26.4
Apple released macOS Tahoe 26.4, build 25E246, on March 24 and listed it as a security release. The available release information does not establish a complete consumer-facing list of Mac-specific visible changes, so it is more accurate to describe 26.4 as a maintenance and security update than to attribute unverified features to it.

macOS Tahoe compatibility is model-specific; a Mac that can run an earlier macOS release is not necessarily eligible for Tahoe. Check Apple’s compatibility and security-update information before expecting the upgrade. On the same date, Apple also issued macOS Sequoia 15.7.5 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.5 for older branches, so Tahoe was not the only Mac security-update path.

watchOS 26.4, build 23T240, was released March 24, 2026. Apple’s security listing names Apple Watch Series 6 and later as supported. The available official details establish the release and security-update context but do not support a confident list of watch-specific headline features.
Before updating, confirm the paired iPhone meets Apple’s current requirement, then use the Watch app on that iPhone. If the update does not appear or installation fails, check Apple’s current watchOS update guidance rather than trying improvised recovery steps.

What tvOS 26.4 means for Apple TV owners
Apple released tvOS 26.4, build 23L243, on March 24. Apple’s security-update listing includes Apple TV HD and all Apple TV 4K models. The confirmed release information supports the date, build, compatibility, and security-update context, but not a definitive list of visible TV-specific feature changes.
How to install an Apple update
When installing now, choose the newest version offered for your device rather than trying to stop at the original 26.4 build. Before starting, back up an iPhone or iPad to iCloud or a computer, make room for the download, connect portable devices to power, and avoid a major update just before travel or a critical deadline. Check for compatibility issues with work, school, banking, VPN, or specialist apps if you rely on them.
- iPhone or iPad: Open Settings > General > Software Update, review the offered version, then follow the prompts.
- Mac: Open Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update.
- Apple Watch: Open the iPhone’s Watch app, then go to My Watch > General > Software Update. Keep the watch on its charger and near its paired iPhone while it updates.
- Apple TV: Open Settings > System > Software Updates.
If no update appears, first check whether the model is eligible and whether a newer version has replaced 26.4. A work- or school-managed device may be governed by an administrator. Low storage, connectivity, battery, or verification problems can also interfere. Apple notes that updates can affect performance or battery life, and its operating systems generally do not offer a normal downgrade path after installation; consult its update and security guidance before proceeding if you have a specific concern.

Should you install 26.4?
For a device still running an older release, keeping its software current is important because Apple classifies these updates as including bug fixes and security updates. But 26.4 is no longer the version to seek out specifically: install the newest compatible update Apple offers. Devices that cannot run the newest major branch may still have an update for an older branch, such as iOS or iPadOS 18.7.7 or the listed Sequoia and Sonoma releases.
For exact vulnerability details, consult Apple’s security content rather than assuming a particular fix from the version number. Apple’s security updates index is the appropriate place to check named security content and supported branches.
