Apple’s 2026 Earth Day and International Dance Day Apple Watch Activity Challenges took place on April 22 and April 29, 2026. Earth Day required a recorded workout lasting 30 minutes or longer; International Dance Day required a Dance workout lasting at least 20 minutes. Both earning windows have now ended.
These were limited-edition Activity awards, not new Apple Watch hardware or permanent watchOS features. The requirements were reported by MacRumors and 9to5Mac on April 14, 2026.
The two 2026 Apple Watch challenges

Earth Day challenge requirements
To complete the Earth Day challenge, users needed to record a workout lasting 30 minutes or longer on April 22, 2026. The workout type was not restricted: walking, running, cycling, yoga, strength training, swimming, or another supported activity could qualify.
The workout could be recorded with Apple’s built-in Workout app or with a third-party fitness app, provided that app successfully wrote the workout to Apple Health. “Any workout app” did not mean that every untracked exercise session would count.

International Dance Day challenge requirements
International Dance Day was more specific. Users needed to record a Dance workout lasting at least 20 minutes on April 29, 2026.
Casual dancing or moving for 20 minutes was not necessarily enough. Where available, users needed to select Dance as the workout type in the Workout app, or use another app that saved the activity to Health with the appropriate workout classification. A general “Other” workout, an unrecorded session, or data that failed to sync as Dance might not satisfy the challenge.

Where the awards appeared
These challenges were part of Apple’s Activity award system and were separate from the normal Move, Exercise, and Stand rings. On a paired iPhone, the usual place to look is:

- Open the Fitness app.
- Tap the profile or summary area.
- Open Awards.
- Look under Limited Edition Challenges or the relevant award category.
Menu names can vary by iOS and watchOS version or region. The completed workout should also appear in workout history and, where applicable, in the Health app.

Can you still earn the 2026 awards?
Not through the normal challenge windows. As of September 13, 2026, both April dates have passed. Apple has not been documented as offering a retroactive recovery method for these specific awards.
Changing the device date, changing region settings, importing a workout, or manually editing Health data is unsupported and may fail or create inaccurate records. Buying a new Apple Watch now cannot retroactively earn an April 2026 award.

What to do if a qualifying workout did not produce an award
During an active challenge, a missing award might have resulted from delayed synchronization or incorrectly recorded data. The sensible checks would have been:

- Confirm that it appears in Fitness or Health.
- Reopen or refresh the Fitness app.
- Check that a third-party app had permission to write workouts to Health.
- Verify the workout duration and, for Dance Day, the workout category.
- Check the Apple Watch’s date and time, particularly after travel or a time-zone change.
- Restart the Apple Watch and paired iPhone if the award remained missing.
- Contact Apple Support if the recorded activity clearly met the requirement.
A workout recorded on the wrong date, shorter than the threshold, or saved under the wrong category may not qualify even if the exercise itself took place.

Was Apple Fitness+ required?
No. The reported requirements did not require an Apple Fitness+ subscription. The built-in Workout app was sufficient, and compatible third-party apps could qualify by recording the workout to Apple Health.
Apple Fitness+ can be useful for guided workouts, including dance-oriented classes, but it was optional. Likewise, an Apple Watch is relevant for future Activity challenges and workout tracking, but there is no reason to buy one solely to recover awards from 2026. Apple’s current watch lineup is listed on its official Apple Watch page.
How these challenges fit Apple’s Activity program
Apple regularly uses special, time-limited Activity awards to mark holidays and events. The 2026 challenges should not be confused with Apple’s 2025 Global Close Your Rings Day, held on April 24, 2025. Apple’s 2025 announcement described different requirements and mentioned rewards such as animated Messages stickers and a physical Apple Store pin for that specific event.
The 2025 rewards do not establish that equivalent stickers, pins, or physical items were offered for the 2026 Earth Day or International Dance Day challenges. The available 2026 reporting identifies the limited-edition digital Activity awards but does not confirm those additional rewards.
These awards are also not health claims. Completing a challenge can encourage movement, but any association Apple reports between ring completion and wellbeing does not prove that earning a badge causes better sleep, lower stress, or improved health.
