Yes—Apple Watch Series 11 has 5G-capable cellular models and supports Hypertension Notifications. No—it does not directly measure blood pressure. The watch analyzes patterns from its optical heart sensor over time and may prompt eligible users to take blood-pressure readings with a separate cuff. The feature is a screening tool, not a diagnosis or replacement for medical care.
Apple Watch Series 11: the short answer
- 5G: Available on GPS + Cellular Series 11 models, not GPS-only models.
- Hypertension Notifications: Supported, but not exclusive to Series 11; Apple also supports the feature on Series 9 or later and Ultra 2 or later.
- Blood-pressure readings: No. Series 11 does not display systolic or diastolic measurements.
- Follow-up: An alert should lead to twice-daily cuff readings for seven days and a discussion with a healthcare professional.
Apple introduced Series 11 on September 9, 2025, and availability began September 19, 2025. In the United States, the current starting price is $399, although the final price depends on case size, material, connectivity, band, taxes, and promotions. Apple’s announcement and current buying page provide the applicable market details.
What is new in Series 11?
Series 11 is available in 42mm and 46mm cases, with aluminum and titanium construction. Buyers can choose GPS or GPS + Cellular configurations. It also includes an always-on Retina display with up to 2,000 nits of brightness, an S10 chip, and Apple-rated battery life of up to 24 hours—or up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode.

Does every Apple Watch Series 11 have 5G?
No. Only the GPS + Cellular versions can connect to a cellular network independently. GPS-only models rely on the paired iPhone for connectivity when the watch is away from Wi-Fi or a known network.
A cellular Series 11 can support calls, messages, navigation, streaming, apps, and emergency connectivity without the iPhone nearby, provided it has an active compatible carrier plan. Apple says the redesigned cellular antenna can improve throughput for tasks such as downloading music, podcasts, and apps.
“5G capable” does not mean the watch will always use 5G or match a smartphone’s performance. Actual service depends on your country, carrier, plan, supported bands, signal, location, network congestion, and carrier provisioning. Cellular service also adds a recurring cost beyond the watch price.

Both configurations support the watch’s health features, including Hypertension Notifications, when the software and eligibility requirements are met.
What are Apple’s Hypertension Notifications?
Hypertension Notifications is a passive health feature. It uses data from the Apple Watch optical heart sensor and analyzes patterns in how blood vessels respond to heartbeats. The system evaluates accumulated data over 30-day periods and may notify the wearer when those patterns are consistent with possible chronic hypertension.

Apple says the algorithm was developed using data from studies involving more than 100,000 participants and validated in a clinical study involving more than 2,000 participants. Those figures are Apple’s reported validation claims, not independent testing or a guarantee that the watch will identify every case.
The notification is not a diagnosis, treatment recommendation, or continuous blood-pressure monitor. A person can have high blood pressure without receiving an alert, and receiving one does not prove that hypertension is present.
Does Apple Watch Series 11 measure blood pressure?
No. Apple Watch Series 11 does not directly measure blood pressure. It does not produce systolic and diastolic readings, does not calibrate itself against a cuff, and cannot replace a validated upper-arm blood-pressure monitor or a clinician’s evaluation.
The watch detects patterns that may be associated with hypertension. If it raises a notification, the actual measurements come from a separate third-party cuff. The Blood Pressure Log in Apple’s Health app stores readings entered from that cuff; enabling the log does not turn the watch into a blood-pressure monitor. Apple’s validation paper describes these limitations.
Who can use Hypertension Notifications?
Apple’s current requirements include:
- Apple Watch Series 9 or later, or Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later.
- iPhone 11 or later.
- Current supported versions of iOS and watchOS.
- Wrist Detection enabled.
- User age of 22 or older.
- No prior hypertension diagnosis entered or known.
- Not being pregnant.
- Availability of the feature in the user’s country or region.
The feature is not available on Apple Watch SE. It is also not intended for people already diagnosed with hypertension, people under 22, or use during pregnancy. Health-feature availability can vary by region and software version. See Apple’s support documentation for the current eligibility rules.

How to turn on Hypertension Notifications
- Open the Health app on the iPhone.
- Tap your profile picture or initials in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Health Checklist.
- Under Hypertension Notifications, tap Set Up, or open the feature if setup has already started.
- Confirm your age and whether you have previously been diagnosed with hypertension.
- Read the information shown and complete setup.
- Tap Done.
Labels can vary slightly by iOS version, region, or setup status. The feature needs sufficient watch-wearing data to analyze patterns, so inconsistent use may reduce the amount of useful information available.

Apple’s recommended next step is not to diagnose yourself from the alert. Instead:
- Open the notification and follow the prompt to set up a Blood Pressure Log.
- Use a validated third-party blood-pressure cuff.
- Take readings twice a day—typically in the morning and before bed—for seven days.
- Record the systolic and diastolic values in the Health app.
- Share the seven-day log with a healthcare professional.
To find the log, open Health → Search → Heart → Blood Pressure → Blood Pressure Log. To enter a reading, open Blood Pressure, tap Add a Measurement, enter the cuff’s systolic and diastolic values, confirm the date and time, and tap Done.
The watch does not generate these numbers. The cuff does.

Choose GPS-only aluminum if value matters
The GPS aluminum model is the sensible choice if your iPhone is normally nearby, you do not need independent calls or streaming, and you want to avoid a recurring cellular charge. It still supports Hypertension Notifications when you meet Apple’s requirements.
Choose GPS + Cellular if you need independence
Cellular is worthwhile if you regularly run, travel, work, or exercise without your iPhone and want calls, messages, navigation, streaming, apps, or emergency connectivity on the watch. Choose it for the connectivity—not for better hypertension detection. Cellular does not make the health feature more accurate.
Choose titanium for materials, not health features
Titanium models start at a higher price—Apple lists them from $699 in the United States—and include premium construction and sapphire crystal. They make sense for buyers who specifically value those materials and are comfortable paying more. They do not provide a special version of Hypertension Notifications.
Should Series 9, Series 10, or Ultra 2 owners upgrade?
Not solely for Hypertension Notifications. Apple supports the feature on Series 9 or later and Ultra 2 or later, assuming compatible software and eligibility. If your existing watch qualifies and the feature is your main reason for upgrading, Series 11 may not add enough to justify the purchase.

Series 11 is more compelling when you also want its newer hardware, battery claim, 5G-capable cellular option, display, or material choices. Owners of older unsupported models may have a stronger reason to upgrade, but should still choose GPS or cellular based on connectivity needs rather than the health feature.
Important limitations and safety points
- No notification does not prove normal blood pressure. Apple says the feature will not detect every instance of hypertension.
- A notification is not a diagnosis. Confirm it with cuff measurements and professional evaluation.
- Existing hypertension: Follow your clinician’s monitoring and treatment plan rather than relying on watch notifications.
- Pregnancy: The feature is not intended for use during pregnancy.
- Irregular wear: Less accumulated data can make analysis less useful.
- Emergency symptoms: Hypertension Notifications are not an emergency alert system. Chest pain, pressure, tightness, severe shortness of breath, or suspected heart-attack symptoms require emergency services. Apple states that Apple Watch cannot detect heart attacks.
For medical details and the current emergency guidance, consult Apple’s support page and a qualified healthcare professional.
Verdict
Apple Watch Series 11 is a 5G-capable cellular smartwatch with a useful hypertension-screening feature, but calling it a blood-pressure monitor would be misleading. Buy GPS-only if your iPhone is usually with you; choose GPS + Cellular if independent connectivity is worth the carrier cost; choose titanium only if its premium materials justify the price.
Recommended Free Tools
Most importantly, do not pay extra for cellular or titanium just to obtain Hypertension Notifications. The feature is also available on supported Series 9-and-later and Ultra 2-and-later models, and any alert still requires a separate cuff and professional follow-up.
