For the best audio quality in the 2022 market, choose the Bose Frames Tenor or Soprano. Runners and cyclists had a better fit with the sportier Bose Frames Tempo, while Amazon Echo Frames made the most sense for Alexa users. Huawei Eyewear II prioritized designer styling, and Fauna and Vue offered more conventional-looking prescription-friendly frames.

What are audio glasses?
Audio glasses are eyewear with small speakers built into the temples, microphones for calls and voice assistants, and Bluetooth connectivity to a phone. Most also provide physical or touch controls.

The speakers sit near—not inside—the ears, so the ear canal remains open. That lets the wearer hear traffic, colleagues and other surroundings while listening to music, podcasts or navigation prompts. These products are audio wearables, not conventional augmented-reality glasses: they generally have no display or visual overlay. Bose once promoted broader augmented-reality possibilities for Frames but shifted the emphasis toward audio.
Best overall: Bose Frames Tenor and Soprano
The Bose Frames Tenor and Soprano were the strongest all-round choices in the 2022 comparison. Bose was judged to offer the clearest and fullest sound in the group, with less troublesome leakage than several competitors. The frames also supported calls, offered up to 5.5 hours of battery life and could be fitted with prescription lenses.
Tenor and Soprano differed mainly in frame styling: Tenor was the more conventional square option, while Soprano used a rounder design. Choose between them based on fit and appearance rather than expecting a major audio difference.

The “best sound” verdict is an editorial comparison, not an independently measured laboratory ranking. Open-ear speakers cannot match sealed earbuds for isolation, bass impact or privacy, and perceived performance changes with head shape, hair, fit, wind and listening volume.
Best for running and cycling: Bose Frames Tempo
The Bose Frames Tempo were the best sport-focused option. Their key advantages were a sportier design, up to eight hours of claimed battery life and an IPX4 rating for resistance to splashing water. Like the other Bose Frames, they kept the ears open for environmental awareness.
Open ears do not make running or cycling automatically safe. Keep the volume low enough to hear vehicles and people, follow local rules on audio devices, and do not treat IPX4 as waterproofing or permission to swim with the glasses.
Best for Alexa: Amazon Echo Frames, 2nd Gen
Echo Frames were less about premium music listening and more about hands-free access to Alexa. They could handle calls, notifications, voice commands and smart-home controls, with Android and iOS support described in the 2022 coverage.

The battery specification needs careful interpretation. Rather than promising a simple continuous music figure, the source reported a mixed-use estimate of about 60 minutes of music, 30 minutes of calls and 120 notifications across 14 hours. That makes Echo Frames more suitable for occasional interactions than long listening sessions.
The model was listed from $249 in the United States in January 2022. US availability at that time should not be confused with current availability or support.
Best fashion-led option: Huawei X Gentle Monster Eyewear II
Huawei’s partnership with Gentle Monster made Eyewear II the choice for buyers who valued statement designer styling. It came in glasses and sunglasses variants, included a charging case and offered a prescription option for the clear-glasses version.
The compromises were significant. The 2022 comparison described weaker audio and noticeable leakage, while iPhone users could use core Bluetooth functions but lacked access to additional Huawei Eyewear and Life app controls. It was also specifically reported as unavailable in the US. Buyers elsewhere needed to confirm regional stock, app support and warranty terms.

Other 2022 options
Bose Frames Alto and Rondo
The first-generation Alto and Rondo provided a lower-cost route into Bose’s open-ear audio, with ambient awareness, UVA/UVB protection and prescription compatibility. They were reported at 45g and came in small/medium and medium/large sizes.
The major drawback was battery life: about two hours. They also lacked a charging case, making old stock attractive only at a substantial discount and after checking battery health, charger availability and support.
Fauna Spiro and Havana Memor
Fauna offered both clear-glasses and sunglasses styles, prescription options, touch controls, beam-forming microphones and echo cancellation. An IP52 rating added limited dust protection and resistance to vertically dripping water when tilted. The charging case also served as the glasses case.

Claimed playback was about four hours, and the temples were chunkier than ordinary frames. Fauna was a reasonable design-conscious alternative, but not the first choice for the strongest audio or all-day use.

Vue Lite 2 targeted buyers who wanted audio glasses that looked relatively ordinary. It offered clear and sunglass options, prescription compatibility, touch controls and a remote smartphone-camera shutter. The 2022 starting price was $199, and the source reported that a 10-minute charge could restore a full charge.
Playback was about four hours, and the Lite 2 lacked the Vue Pro’s extra fitness features. It was best suited to casual listening, calls and everyday wear rather than demanding workouts or high-quality music.
Prescription lenses: compatibility is not the same as inclusion
The 2022 comparison identified prescription support for Bose Frames Tenor, Soprano and Tempo, Amazon Echo Frames, the clear Huawei Eyewear II, Fauna and Vue Lite 2. However, “prescription-compatible” usually means the frame can accept prescription lenses—not that prescription lenses are included in the purchase.

- Whether your prescription falls within the frame’s limits.
- Whether replacing lenses affects the warranty or water-resistance claim.
- Whether the replacement changes the frame’s weight, balance or fit.
- Who will support the glasses if the electronics fail after lens installation.
Battery, charging and ownership
Audio glasses generally have shorter runtimes than ordinary headphones. A charging case makes a major difference for Fauna, Huawei and Vue, but cases can be bulky: Huawei’s case was described as large, while Fauna’s doubled as the glasses case. Bose Alto and Rondo did not include a charging case.
For a 2022-era product bought years later, battery condition matters more than the original headline number. Check whether the glasses are new, refurbished or old stock; whether the charger and case are included; whether replacement batteries or cases can be obtained; and whether the companion app still works.

Water-resistance ratings explained
- IPX4: resistance to splashing water from different directions; used by Bose Tempo and Echo Frames in the cited comparison.
- IPX2: lower protection against vertically dripping water when the device is tilted; used by standard Bose Frames.
- IP52: limited dust protection plus protection against vertically dripping water when tilted; used by Fauna.
These ratings are not swimming or submersion protection. They may apply to the electronic frame rather than the lenses, charging case or a separately installed prescription setup.
Audio leakage, wind and calls
Because the speakers are open to the environment, some leakage is inherent. Bose was described as less leaky than several alternatives, while Huawei Eyewear II was criticized for noticeable leakage. Fauna used speaker and microphone design intended to reduce leakage, but no model should be assumed private without measured testing.
Consider how the glasses perform at moderate volume in a quiet office, during a one-to-one conversation, on a busy street and on a windy route. Wind can make outdoor playback difficult and can interfere with calls. Beam-forming and echo cancellation help microphones, but they cannot remove every source of wind noise.

Audio glasses are best understood as a situational alternative for walking, commuting, running, casual calls and voice assistants—not a universal replacement for headphones.
What to check before buying old 2022 stock
- Availability: Confirm that the model is genuinely purchasable and not an unsupported marketplace listing.
- Battery health: Ask when the glasses were manufactured and whether the battery holds its original charge.
- App support: Check whether setup, firmware updates and advanced controls still work on your iPhone or Android phone.
- Prescription process: Confirm who fits the lenses and how that affects warranty coverage.
- Case and charger: Make sure proprietary accessories are included or still available.
- Returns and warranty: Old stock may have limited coverage, regional restrictions or no manufacturer support.
- Fit: Check temple thickness, frame dimensions and compatibility with helmets, hats and existing eyewear.
- Privacy: Test for leakage before using the glasses in offices, libraries or public transport.
2022 verdict
Bose led the 2022 field for audio quality, making the Frames Tenor and Soprano the best overall choices. The Frames Tempo were the better sport option because of their eight-hour claim and IPX4 rating. Echo Frames were the specialist pick for Alexa, notifications and smart-home control. Huawei Eyewear II stood out for designer styling, while Fauna and Vue Lite 2 offered more conventional prescription-friendly alternatives.
If you need private listening, strong bass, active noise cancellation or all-day battery life, conventional earbuds or headphones remain the better purchase. If you buy a discontinued 2022 model today, treat battery health, app support, accessories and warranty as core buying criteria—not afterthoughts.
