Choose the Inspire 3 for the lowest-cost, longest-lasting everyday tracker; the Google Fitbit Air for screenless tracking; or the Versa 4 if you want a Fitbit-branded watch.

Prices and availability checked: August 18, 2026, in the United States. Google now presents the companion experience as the Google Health app, with optional Google Health Premium replacing the familiar Fitbit Premium branding.

How to choose

Start with four questions:

  1. Will you exercise without your phone? Choose Charge 6, Versa 4, Sense 2, or Pixel Watch 4 for built-in GPS. Inspire 3 uses connected GPS through the phone.
  2. Do you want to see information on your wrist? Choose Inspire 3, Charge 6, Versa 4, or Sense 2. Air is screenless.
  3. Do you need a full smartwatch? Choose Pixel Watch 4 for Google and third-party apps. Versa 4 and Sense 2 are better described as fitness watches with smartwatch basics.
  4. Will you pay for coaching? Basic tracking remains available, but Google Health Premium adds deeper insights, coaching, workouts, and other content.

1. Fitbit Charge 6: best overall Fitbit tracker

The Charge 6 is the strongest default recommendation. It is more capable than the Inspire 3, more compact and fitness-focused than the Versa 4 or Sense 2, and substantially simpler than a full smartwatch.

Why buy it

  • Built-in GPS for phone-free outdoor workouts.
  • ECG support where the feature is available and approved.
  • Irregular-heart-rhythm notifications and a broad set of wellness metrics.
  • SpO2, resting heart rate, breathing rate, skin-temperature variation, cardio fitness, Active Zone Minutes, and workout-intensity features.
  • NFC and Google Wallet functionality, subject to market, account, and setup requirements.
  • Water resistance rated to 50 metres/5 ATM, though it is not permanently waterproof.

Why avoid it

It is not a dedicated Garmin, Polar, or COROS sports watch. Serious runners and cyclists may want richer training plans, navigation, route mapping, offline music, and deeper performance analytics. Its heart-rate data is useful for trends and workout estimates, not laboratory-grade measurement.

Buy the Charge 6 if: you want a small tracker but regularly run, walk, hike, or exercise without carrying your phone.

2. Fitbit Inspire 3: best budget Fitbit and best battery life

The Inspire 3 is the sensible choice for beginners and anyone who mainly wants steps, sleep, heart rate, wellness trends, and basic workout tracking. Independent coverage commonly places its battery claim at up to 10 days, although display settings, notifications, SpO2 collection, connected GPS, and workout frequency affect results.

It tracks 24/7 heart rate, sleep, Active Zone Minutes, cardio fitness, exercise, SpO2, skin-temperature variation, HRV, breathing rate, and menstrual-health information. It is slim and comfortable, but its display and controls are more limited than the Charge 6.

The decisive compromise is GPS: Inspire 3 does not have built-in GPS. Outdoor distance and route tracking require a compatible phone. It also lacks ECG, EDA scanning, and NFC payments.

3. Google Fitbit Air: best screenless tracker

Fitbit Air is for people who want unobtrusive 24/7 tracking without a screen. It tracks heart rate, steps, distance, calories, Active Zone Minutes, SpO2, HRV, breathing rate, skin-temperature variation, sleep, Cardio Load, and Readiness-related information. Air is not a direct replacement for Inspire 3. The Inspire 3 can show basic metrics and time on its wrist display; Air cannot show steps, heart rate, notifications, or workout information because it has no screen. Air is also unsuitable for buyers who need on-device controls, maps, or confirmed phone-free GPS workouts.

Google’s product page also describes future Health Guardian features, including blood-pressure trends, insulin-resistance trends, and sleep-breathing-quality trends, as “coming soon.” They should not be treated as features available today. Health-related functions can vary by country and are not intended to diagnose or treat disease.

Buy Air if: you dislike screens and want the newest screenless Fitbit design. Choose Inspire 3 instead if you want a display, a lower price during sales, or the longest advertised battery life.

4. Fitbit Versa 4: best Fitbit-branded smartwatch

Versa 4 is a comfortable, watch-shaped fitness device with a larger AMOLED display, physical button, notifications, activity and sleep tracking, Google-related services, and a battery claim of six-plus days. Google says a full day of charge can be added in approximately 12 minutes under its stated conditions.

It is not a full Wear OS competitor. There is no broad third-party app ecosystem comparable with Wear OS, watchOS, or Galaxy Watch. Music functionality is limited compared with conventional smartwatches, and the device is not aimed at advanced sports training. It also lacks ECG and the additional health hardware found in Sense 2.

Buy Versa 4 if: you want a large Fitbit display, simple notifications, long battery life, and fewer smartwatch distractions. Do not buy it expecting Apple Watch-style apps or Pixel Watch-level Google integration.

5. Fitbit Sense 2: best for specific health sensors

Sense 2 remains relevant mainly because of its ECG and EDA/stress-related tools, along with broader health sensing such as skin-temperature information. ECG availability depends on country, device, account, and regulatory approval.

Its everyday experience is close to Versa 4, including the same general Fitbit-centered software limitations. Because it is an older product and there is no confirmed successor to rely on, it is difficult to recommend at full price. It makes sense when substantially discounted and when ECG or EDA is genuinely important.

  • Choose Sense 2 for its specific ECG and EDA-related features.
  • Choose Versa 4 for the larger-screen Fitbit experience at a lower price.
  • Choose Pixel Watch 4 if apps and Google services matter more than Fitbit’s simpler interface and longer battery profile.

6. Google Pixel Watch 4: best full smartwatch for Fitbit users

Pixel Watch 4 is not Fitbit-branded, but it is the most important alternative for people who want Fitbit or Google Health tracking in a proper smartwatch. It runs Wear OS 6 and supports Google apps and third-party apps through Google Play.

It is the better choice for richer notifications, broader app support, Google services, and more complete smartwatch interaction. The trade-offs are Android-focused compatibility, a more complex experience, and battery life that is generally less attractive to people seeking multi-day Fitbit-style endurance. Confirm phone compatibility, case size, cellular availability, and current pricing before buying.

Choose Pixel Watch 4 instead of Versa 4 when: smartwatch capability matters more than simplicity and long battery life. It should not be presented as a Fitbit-branded tracker.

Charge 6 vs. Inspire 3

Feature Charge 6 Inspire 3
Design Larger fitness tracker with display Smaller, slimmer band
GPS Built-in Connected through phone
Battery claim Up to about six days Up to 10 days
ECG and EDA Yes, where supported No
Payments NFC/Google Wallet, subject to market and setup No

The practical question is not simply which one has more features. It is whether you will exercise without your phone. If yes, buy Charge 6. If no, Inspire 3 usually provides the better value.

Versa 4 vs. Sense 2

Choose Sense 2 only when its ECG, EDA, or additional health sensors justify the higher price. For everyday tracking, notifications, sleep, and a large display, Versa 4 is the simpler buy. Neither offers the broad app platform of Pixel Watch 4, and neither should be treated as a serious endurance-training watch.

Best Value
Google Fitbit Inspire 3 - Midnight Zen/Black - Small and Large Bands

  • Sleep better: Automatic sleep tracking, a daily detailed Sleep Score, smart wake vibrating alarm, and sleep mode help you improve your sleep quality[3]

Fitbit versus alternatives

  • Garmin, Polar, or COROS: better suited to marathon, triathlon, cycling, navigation, and structured training.
  • Apple Watch: the strongest choice for iPhone integration and full smartwatch functionality.
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch or Pixel Watch: better Android smartwatch platforms than Fitbit-branded watches.
  • Whoop: screenless strain and recovery emphasis, but subscription-heavy.
  • Oura: ring-based sleep and readiness tracking.
  • Amazfit: potentially strong feature breadth at lower prices, depending on model.
  • Withings: discreet, traditional-watch styling and health tracking.

Google Health Premium explained

The Fitbit app is now presented as the Google Health app, and the paid tier is Google Health Premium. Google’s US page listed Premium from $9.99; third-party coverage reports $9.99 monthly or $99 annually. Pricing and included benefits can change, so verify the checkout page.

Compatible devices can provide basic activity, sleep, heart-rate, HRV, breathing-rate, SpO2, logging, Cardio Load, and Readiness-related information without implying that every feature requires Premium. Premium adds Gemini-powered Google Health Coach, adaptive fitness plans, detailed sleep insights, proactive insights, medical-record summaries, workouts, and mindfulness content.

Google Store pages showed three months of Premium with Air, Charge 6, Inspire 3, and Versa 4 on August 18, 2026. Trials and renewal terms can change. Check the exact offer and cancel before renewal if you do not want a recurring charge.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a two-year cost comparison, include the device, any replacement bands, and the Premium fee after the trial. A discounted tracker is not necessarily the cheapest long-term option if you plan to maintain the subscription.

Buying advice by user type

  • Beginners: Inspire 3.
  • Most regular exercisers: Charge 6.
  • Phone-free outdoor workouts: Charge 6 or a watch with built-in GPS.
  • People who hate charging: Inspire 3 first; Air if you prefer no screen.
  • Sleep-first users: Air for screenless wear, or Inspire 3 for a lower-cost display.
  • Small wrists: Inspire 3 or Charge 6; compare band fit before purchase.
  • Seniors: Versa 4 if a larger display is useful, or Inspire 3 for simplicity. Consider phone compatibility and readability.
  • iPhone owners: Fitbit trackers generally work with iPhone, but verify current requirements and feature limits. Pixel Watch should not be assumed to support iPhone.
  • Android smartwatch buyers: Pixel Watch 4.
  • People avoiding subscriptions: Inspire 3 or Charge 6 used with the included base tracking; skip Premium unless its coaching and insights justify the cost.
  • People wanting no screen: Air, Whoop, or Oura, depending on whether you prefer a band or ring and accept each platform’s subscription model.
  • Serious athletes: Garmin, Polar, or COROS rather than Fitbit.

Important limitations

Fitbit devices estimate rather than guarantee many health and fitness measurements. Results can vary with fit, movement, tattoos, skin, sweat, temperature, sensor contact, exercise type, GPS obstruction, phone quality, and algorithm differences. ECG and irregular-heart-rhythm features are not available everywhere and are not a diagnosis.

Products rated to 5 ATM or 50 metres are water resistant, not waterproof. Resistance can decline with wear, damage, repair, or disassembly. Inspire 3 is intended for shallow water and should not be used for high-velocity or high-temperature water activities. Some replacement bands may not be water resistant.

Fitbit devices generally work with Android and iPhone, but operating-system, country, account, and feature requirements vary. A Google account may be required for current Fitbit use; check Google’s latest setup requirements before purchase.

Should you wait for a newer Fitbit?

There is no confirmed successor to rely on in this buying decision. Buy the current device that matches your needs rather than paying for a rumored future model. Treat Luxe as an older, availability-dependent option: it may appear in comparison tools or retailer listings, but inconsistent availability and accessories make Inspire 3 or Air easier recommendations.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
