boAt launched the Storm Call 3 in India in April 2024, pitching it as a budget smartwatch with a 1.83-inch display, Bluetooth calling, QR Tray and turn-by-turn navigation powered by Mappls (formerly MapmyIndia). Launch coverage reported an introductory price of ₹1,099, though that is not necessarily the price now. The key caveat: navigation is not standalone. The watch displays directional alerts sent through the boAt Crest app on a connected phone; it is not documented as having its own cellular connection or independent GPS navigation.
Price and availability
At launch, reports put the Storm Call 3’s introductory price at ₹1,099, with some coverage noting a higher price for a silver-metal variant. Those April 2024 launch prices should not be confused with a current offer. The official boAt product listing showed ₹1,699 and “sold out” in a page snapshot available in August 2026; price and stock can change, so check the listing before buying. The same page gives an MRP of ₹8,499, which is not the launch price or a guarantee of the current selling price. Indian Express and Gadgets 360 covered the launch.
How the Mappls navigation works
“Built-in navigation” is best understood as wrist-based guidance, not a map system that works independently of your phone. boAt’s support instructions require the watch to be paired to a phone running boAt Crest, with location access, internet connectivity and background app activity enabled. You search for a destination in Crest and send the route to the watch. The watch then shows turn-by-turn directional alerts; boAt’s support guidance describes arrows rather than a full map view.
- In the watch’s Settings, open Watch Features > Turn-by-Turn Navigation.
- Grant location permission, disable App Pause and enable Background Activity.
- In the boAt Crest app, search for your destination and tap Get Directions.
- Use Preview to check the route, then tap Navigate on Watch.
Keep the watch connected to the phone, allow Crest to run in the background and maintain a stable internet connection. If guidance stops, check Bluetooth, phone location services, Crest’s location and background permissions, battery restrictions and internet access. QR Tray: stored codes, not contactless payments
QR Tray lets you save an image of a QR code in Crest and display it on the watch. boAt’s documented categories are Payment, Movie and Others; a category does not turn the watch into a payment device. This is a QR-image display feature, not NFC, a digital wallet or payment authentication hardware. Whether a code scans depends on its image quality, the watch’s small display and the merchant’s scanner.
- In Crest, go to Settings > Watch Features > QR Tray.
- Upload a QR-code screenshot or image, select a category and give it a name.
- Tap Save & Push to Watch.
- On the watch, swipe left from the home screen to open the saved codes. If scanning fails, double-tap the screen to increase brightness.
For a ticket, access pass or payment code, keep a backup on your phone: a watch display may not work with every scanner.

boAt’s support specification lists a 240 × 284-pixel display, while Gadgets 360’s launch coverage reported 240 × 296 pixels and 550 nits. The available official specification does not confirm the brightness figure, so treat these as conflicting published claims and check the packaging or current listing if the exact specification matters.

Actual endurance depends on use, including calling, notifications and other features. Treat both figures as “up to” claims rather than a guaranteed result.

IP67 is the stated rating; it should not be read as a promise that the watch is suitable for swimming or prolonged water exposure. Check boAt’s warranty and care guidance before intentionally exposing it to water.

The Storm Call 3 supports Bluetooth calling, but it is not a cellular watch: calls still rely on the connected phone. Setup may involve a second Bluetooth pairing request named STORMCALL3_XXXX. Grant the requested phone-call, media-audio, call-log and contact-sharing permissions. Bluetooth range, phone settings and restrictions on background activity can affect reliability.

boAt advertises notifications, custom watch faces, fitness challenges and more than 700 activity modes on its product page. Its support specifications list heart-rate and blood-oxygen sensors, a G-sensor and SOS. These are consumer wellness and activity features, not medical-grade measurements; do not use watch readings to diagnose or manage a health condition. The support instructions say SOS can be configured with one emergency contact and initiated by a long press of the side button. It is not a replacement for a broader emergency plan.

Who might want it—and who should look elsewhere
The Storm Call 3 may suit a budget buyer who already carries a compatible phone and wants calls, basic wellness tracking and route prompts on the wrist. QR Tray may also be handy for codes used regularly, provided the relevant scanner can read them from the watch.
Look elsewhere if you need navigation that works without a phone, cellular calling, a full map on the watch, or a device explicitly intended for swimming. Also consider whether you are comfortable giving Crest location and background access for navigation, and phone/contact permissions for calling. People using older phones or aggressive battery-saving settings may need to adjust permissions and app restrictions for the advertised functions to work reliably.
