Some Samsung watches can connect to an iPhone, but only older models officially support iOS. The key cutoff is the Galaxy Watch4: Galaxy Watch4 and newer models—including the Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch8, Watch FE, and Galaxy Watch Ultra—are not officially compatible with iPhone.

Older Tizen-era watches such as the Galaxy Watch (2018), Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active2, and several Gear models can pair through Samsung’s iPhone app, although features are more limited than they are with a Samsung Galaxy phone. This compatibility information is current to August 18, 2026.

The short answer

If you use an iPhone, buy a Samsung watch only after checking its exact model. The safest rule is:

  • Galaxy Watch3 and older: Some models officially support iPhone, but Galaxy Watch3 should be verified against Samsung’s current regional support page before purchase.
  • Galaxy Watch4 and newer: Not officially compatible with iPhone.
  • LTE models: Cellular connectivity does not make an incompatible watch work with iOS.

Samsung’s official compatibility guidance generally requires an iPhone 5 or later running iOS 9 or later for older compatible watches. Galaxy Fit has stricter requirements: an iPhone 7 or later with iOS 10 or later. iPad and iPod touch are not supported, and Samsung warns that iPhone 6S and 6S Plus models running iOS 10 or later may have unstable connections. See Samsung’s compatibility table for the current requirements.

Which Samsung watches work with iPhone?

The following families are listed by Samsung as compatible with iPhone, subject to the model, region, app version, and phone requirements:

Samsung watch family Official iPhone support Important notes
Galaxy Watch (2018) Yes Generally iPhone 5 or later with iOS 9 or later.
Galaxy Watch Active Yes Older Tizen-era model; expect fewer features than with Android.
Galaxy Watch Active2 Yes Supported through Samsung’s older iPhone companion software.
Galaxy Watch3 Check carefully Samsung’s current U.S. and Canadian pages do not list it consistently. Verify the exact model and region before buying.
Gear Live Yes Very old hardware and software; app availability may be a practical concern.
Gear S2, Gear S3, Gear Sport Yes Officially listed for older iPhones, but long-term support is limited by their age.
Gear Fit2 and Gear Fit2 Pro Yes Fitness-band functionality rather than a full modern smartwatch experience.
Galaxy Fit Limited yes Requires iPhone 7 or later with iOS 10 or later.
Galaxy Fit3 No Not compatible with iOS.

Samsung’s U.S. support page lists the Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, and Galaxy Watch Active2, along with older Gear models. Its current regional pages do not consistently include the Galaxy Watch3. That inconsistency matters when shopping for a refurbished or second-hand watch: do not rely on a seller’s generic “iPhone compatible” description.

Which Samsung watches do not work with iPhone?

Samsung identifies the following newer families as incompatible with iOS:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic
  • Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro
  • Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic
  • Galaxy Watch FE
  • Galaxy Watch7
  • Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic
  • Galaxy Watch Ultra

Samsung’s Canadian compatibility guidance includes the Watch8 among the incompatible models. Samsung’s U.S. documentation lists the other Wear OS generations. The practical buying rule remains the same: do not buy a Galaxy Watch4-or-newer model expecting official iPhone support.

Why did compatibility stop at Galaxy Watch4?

The Galaxy Watch4 moved Samsung’s mainstream watches from its older Tizen platform to Wear OS powered by Samsung. Samsung says the newer watches depend on Google Play services, which iOS does not support.

This is why Bluetooth alone cannot solve the problem. A watch may appear in an iPhone’s Bluetooth menu, exchange limited signals, or mirror a notification, but that does not mean it can complete official setup or provide reliable synchronization. Normal smartwatch use requires more than a radio connection:

  • A supported companion app
  • Compatible platform services
  • Firmware and plug-in management
  • Health and account synchronization
  • Background communication between the phone and watch

In other words, “the watch has Bluetooth” and “the watch officially works with iPhone” are different claims.

What app does an iPhone user need?

For an officially compatible older model, install the Samsung companion app identified for that exact watch from Apple’s App Store. Samsung’s older listing is Samsung Galaxy Watch (Gear S). It covers older Gear and Galaxy Watch families, including the Gear S2, Gear S3, Gear Sport, Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active2, and Galaxy Watch3.

Do not assume that one app or plug-in supports every Samsung wearable. App names, plug-ins, and supported models can vary by generation, iOS version, and region. Search using the exact model name, then confirm that the App Store listing and Samsung’s compatibility page both identify your watch.

How to pair a compatible Samsung watch with an iPhone

  1. Identify the exact model. “Samsung Galaxy Watch” is not specific enough. Check the name on the case, packaging, settings screen, or seller’s listing.
  2. Check Samsung’s current compatibility page. Pay particular attention to the Watch3 and regional differences.
  3. Update the iPhone. Use a supported iOS version and install any available app update.
  4. Install the model-specific Samsung app from the App Store.
  5. Turn on Bluetooth and keep the iPhone connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
  6. Open the Samsung app and choose the option to add or pair a watch.
  7. Select the watch when it appears, then confirm the pairing code shown on both devices.
  8. Approve permissions for notifications, Bluetooth, contacts, and other functions you want to use.
  9. Install firmware or plug-in updates offered by the app.
  10. Test the features you need, including notifications, calls, workouts, and health synchronization.

The exact menu labels differ between older models and iOS versions. A successful setup should leave the watch visible inside Samsung’s companion app, where you can configure basic settings, notifications, watch faces, and supported data synchronization.

What features work with iPhone?

Compatible older watches can provide a useful subset of smartwatch functions, but they should not be treated as Apple Watch equivalents. Depending on the model and software, iPhone users may receive:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Incoming watch notifications
  • Step counts and basic activity tracking
  • Heart-rate information
  • Workout and exercise tracking
  • Watch-face and settings management
  • Some call alerts or calling functions
  • Basic music and media controls
  • Supported watch apps and watch faces
  • Some synchronization through the Samsung companion app

Availability varies by watch generation, iOS version, app version, and region. Older hardware also creates a separate risk: a feature that worked when the watch launched may be less reliable after years of iOS and app changes.

What features are limited or unavailable?

The largest drawback is reduced ecosystem integration. Samsung’s developer documentation on iPhone limitations and its current support information identify several restrictions.

Health features

Do not assume that pairing an older Galaxy Watch gives you Samsung’s complete health platform. Samsung Health Monitor features such as ECG, irregular-heart-rhythm notifications, and sleep-apnea detection are restricted to Samsung phones. General activity and heart-rate data may be available, but the precise health features depend on the model and phone platform.

Messages and calls

Notifications may arrive without offering the same reply options available on Android. Calls may work as alerts rather than as fully supported two-way calling, depending on the watch and setup. Contacts, message interaction, and background reliability can also be limited.

Samsung-specific controls

Features that may be unavailable or restricted from an iPhone include camera control, reminders, certain calendar behavior, Samsung Find, music transfer, and some customization options. Samsung Wallet support and app installation can also be limited compared with a Samsung Galaxy phone.

The general Samsung Health app should not be confused with Samsung Health Monitor. A watch may synchronize some fitness information without supporting Samsung’s phone-exclusive medical and rhythm features.

Does LTE make a Galaxy Watch work with iPhone?

No. LTE and phone compatibility solve different problems.

Cellular service can allow a compatible watch to make calls, receive messages, or use data away from a phone when the carrier and plan support those functions. It does not replace the compatible phone, companion app, platform services, firmware management, and initial setup environment required by the watch.

An LTE Galaxy Watch4, Watch7, Watch8, or Galaxy Watch Ultra remains officially incompatible with iPhone. Do not activate a cellular plan or pay extra for LTE expecting it to bypass Samsung’s iOS restriction.

What if you already own a Galaxy Watch4 or newer?

There is no officially supported iPhone setup for Galaxy Watch4 and newer models. Some owners report limited behavior after configuring a watch with Android, using Bluetooth notification mirroring, or trying third-party bridging software. These are unsupported workarounds, not normal compatibility.

They may lack firmware management, dependable health synchronization, message replies, outgoing calls, Samsung Health integration, app installation, and long-term reliability. Repeated resets, manual Bluetooth pairing, and LTE activation will not turn an incompatible Wear OS watch into an iPhone-supported device.

Your practical choices are to use the watch with a compatible Android phone or choose a different watch designed to work with iPhone.

Troubleshooting an older compatible watch

If your model is officially supported but setup fails, use this sequence:

  • 101+ Workout Modes with Auto Detection – Automatically tracks common workouts for seamless fitness tracking. Advanced Health Tracking – Includes sleep coaching, SpO2, heart rate, and snore detection
  • International Model No Warranty in the US. ONLY compatible with Android devices. Samsung Pay - Not Supported. NOT compatible with iPhone or iOS devices.
  1. Update iOS and the Samsung companion app.
  2. Restart both the iPhone and watch.
  3. Remove the watch from the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings.
  4. Open the Samsung app and start pairing again from inside the app.
  5. If the watch was paired with another phone, unpair it there first.
  6. Reinstall the model-specific app or plug-in.
  7. Reset the watch only after confirming that important data has been synchronized.
  8. Check Samsung’s current regional support page if the app still cannot detect the watch.

Common symptoms such as “the watch appears but setup will not finish,” notifications arriving without replies, or health data failing to sync usually indicate a model, app, permission, or platform limitation—not merely a Bluetooth fault. iPhone 6S and 6S Plus owners should also account for Samsung’s warning about unstable connections on iOS 10 or later.

Buying advice: which option makes sense?

Choose Apple Watch for the strongest iPhone experience

Apple Watch is the straightforward choice if you want dependable iPhone notifications, calls, Messages, Apple Health, safety features, and system integration. Apple’s current 2026 compatibility guidance lists the Apple Watch SE 3, Series 11, and Ultra 3 as requiring an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. Apple’s January 2026 U.S. starting prices were $249 for the SE 3, $399 for the Series 11, and $799 for the Ultra 3. Prices and availability can change; see Apple’s compatibility table and 2026 announcement.

Choose an older Samsung watch only for a specific reason

An older Galaxy Watch may appeal if you specifically want Samsung’s design, hardware, or rotating-bezel experience and accept aging software, incomplete iPhone integration, and greater return risk. Buy only from a seller that identifies the exact model and offers a credible return policy. The label “Samsung Galaxy Watch” is not enough.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose Garmin for training and battery life

Garmin is a better direction for runners, cyclists, and battery-conscious users who prioritize training tools and longer battery life over Apple’s Messages and system integration. Browse the official Garmin range and verify the features of the specific model.

Choose Amazfit for lower-cost cross-platform basics

Amazfit can suit iPhone users who want basic notifications, fitness tracking, and longer battery life while retaining the option to switch between iPhone and Android. It is a weaker choice for deep iPhone integration, ECG, or a broad smartwatch-app ecosystem. See the official Amazfit site for current models and pricing.

Before buying a refurbished Samsung watch

  • Confirm the exact model number, not merely the product family.
  • Reject listings that describe Watch4, Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch8, Watch FE, or Ultra as iPhone-compatible.
  • Check whether the model is listed on Samsung’s current support page for your country.
  • Confirm that the required App Store app is still available for your iPhone and iOS version.
  • Ask whether the watch is locked to another account or still paired with an Android phone.
  • Test notifications, health synchronization, calls, and battery condition during the return period.
  • Remember that an LTE model still needs a compatible setup environment.

Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP document lists current Galaxy Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, and Ultra prices, but those watches are not official iPhone-compatible choices. Their prices are therefore more useful as a warning than as recommendations: a $249.99 Watch7 Bluetooth model, for example, is not a safe iPhone purchase simply because it is new or discounted. See Samsung’s June 2026 MSRP sheet for dated U.S. pricing.

Final verdict

If you use an iPhone, do not buy a Galaxy Watch4 or newer expecting official support. Older Samsung watches can connect in selected cases, but their features are reduced, their software is aging, and Galaxy Watch3 support should be checked against Samsung’s current regional documentation.

Choose Apple Watch when seamless iPhone integration is the priority. Choose Garmin when training and battery life matter more, or Amazfit when you want lower-cost cross-platform basics. Choose an older Samsung watch only when its specific hardware is worth accepting the compatibility and support compromises.
