Yes, but only some older Samsung watches. Samsung lists the 2018 Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, and Galaxy Watch Active2 as iPhone-compatible. Galaxy Watch4 and newer—including the Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch8, Galaxy Watch FE, and Galaxy Watch Ultra—cannot pair with an iPhone. If you’re checking a watch you already own, find its exact model before trying to set it up or buying a replacement phone.
Which Samsung watches work with an iPhone?
Samsung’s current U.S. compatibility guidance lists these older models for iPhone use. Its stated minimums are not a guarantee that an old watch or app will work well today: use the newest iOS version your iPhone supports, and check that the Samsung app remains available in your region.
| Watch | iPhone compatible? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch (2018) | Yes, listed by Samsung | Samsung lists iPhone 5 or later with iOS 9 or later. |
| Galaxy Watch Active | Yes, listed by Samsung | Samsung lists iPhone 5 or later with iOS 9 or later. |
| Galaxy Watch Active2 | Yes, listed by Samsung | Samsung lists iPhone 5 or later with iOS 9 or later. |
| Galaxy Watch3 | Unclear; verify first | Samsung’s older LTE activation guidance mentions iPhone support, but its current general compatibility list does not clearly include the Watch3. |
| Gear S2, Gear S3, Gear Sport | Samsung lists compatibility | These are older models; check present-day app availability and the specific device before relying on one. |
| Galaxy Fit | Limited compatibility | Samsung lists iPhone 7 or later with iOS 10 or later. It is a fitness band, not a Galaxy Watch. |
Samsung’s model list and minimum phone requirements are on its compatibility support page. In particular, don’t confuse the original 2018 Galaxy Watch or the Tizen-based Active2 with the Galaxy Watch4: similar names do not mean they use the same platform.
Which Samsung watches do not work with iPhone?

- Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic
- Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro
- Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic
- Galaxy Watch FE
- Galaxy Watch7
- Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic
- Galaxy Watch Ultra, including newer Ultra models
This includes Samsung’s newer budget and premium options; the Galaxy Watch FE is not an iPhone-compatible exception. Samsung’s Wear OS compatibility guidance says its Wear OS Galaxy Watches do not support iOS. Its Canadian compatibility page also names newer Watch families, FE, and Ultra as incompatible.
Why can’t a newer Galaxy Watch pair with an iPhone?
Bluetooth is only the wireless link; a smartwatch also needs a compatible setup app and the phone services its operating system relies on. Galaxy Watch4 and newer models use Wear OS and depend on Google Play services, which iOS does not support. Pairing from the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings, installing a generic Wear OS app, or trying another Samsung app cannot supply that missing support. Samsung explains the platform limitation in its compatibility guidance.
So if your watch is a Watch4 or later, stop troubleshooting iPhone pairing. It needs a compatible Android phone. Resetting it or changing Bluetooth settings will not make it work with iOS.

How to connect a compatible older Samsung watch to an iPhone
For a model Samsung lists as compatible, set it up through Samsung’s iPhone companion app—not Bluetooth settings alone:
- On the iPhone, open the App Store and search for Samsung Galaxy Watch.
- Install and open the app, then tap Start the Journey.
- Select the watch model and follow the pairing prompts. Keep the watch close to the iPhone, charged, and Bluetooth enabled.
- If you have an LTE model, follow any carrier activation prompts that appear and confirm service eligibility with your carrier.
Samsung’s iPhone setup instructions give this app-based process. The fact that an app appears in the App Store does not mean it supports every Galaxy Watch; Watch4 and newer remain incompatible.
What works—and what is limited?
On supported older watches, you may be able to configure the watch, receive some notifications, manage watch faces, track basic activity, sync some data, and use Bluetooth-connected calling on supported models. The precise feature set depends on the watch, iOS and app versions, region, and whether the model is Bluetooth or LTE. Treat this as a reduced companion experience, not a Samsung watch with full Galaxy-phone functionality.

Samsung specifically notes that some features, including the Email app and Samsung Pay, are unavailable in its iPhone setup guidance. Don’t count on Samsung Pay or Wallet, full app access, or deep integration with iPhone features. A Samsung watch also does not reproduce Apple Watch integration such as Apple Pay, Siri, or Apple’s watch-specific continuity features. Messaging and notifications may be limited; do not assume iMessage will work like it does on an Apple Watch.

Basic activity tracking may be available, but that does not mean all Samsung health features work with an iPhone. Samsung Health Monitor functions such as ECG and blood-pressure monitoring have Galaxy-phone requirements in Samsung’s guidance; availability can also depend on compatible hardware, software, and region. Check Samsung’s current ECG requirements, Health Monitor guidance, and regional Health Monitor information for the exact function before buying a watch for it.
Can it make calls, send texts, or work over LTE?
Calling and LTE behavior depend on the exact older watch, carrier, region, and account setup. A Bluetooth watch generally needs to remain connected to the nearby iPhone for phone-linked functions. LTE may let a supported watch do some things away from the phone, but it does not guarantee activation on your iPhone’s plan or provide the same messaging, apps, and health features as a Galaxy-phone pairing.

Samsung’s LTE activation guidance names selected older models and notes carrier limitations. Check with your carrier before buying a used LTE watch; do not assume any Galaxy Watch can be added to any iPhone cellular plan.
If the watch was paired with an Android phone
Samsung says an existing device may need to be disconnected before the watch is connected to another phone. First confirm the watch model actually supports iPhone. If it does, use the companion app’s instructions to disconnect it or, if necessary, reset it. A reset can erase watch data and settings, so back up or sync anything you need first. It will not make a Watch4-or-newer model iPhone-compatible.
If a compatible watch will not connect
- Check the exact model. Look in the watch’s settings or on its case/packaging, then compare it with Samsung’s current compatibility list.
- Check the iPhone and app. Update iOS where possible and install or update Samsung Galaxy Watch from the App Store.
- Check the connection basics. Charge the watch, keep it close, enable Bluetooth, and restart both devices.
- Clear stale connections if needed. If the app cannot find the watch, remove an old pairing or connection and retry setup through the Samsung app.
- Handle a previous phone carefully. Disconnect from the old phone; reset only if the model is supported and you are prepared to lose data and settings.
- Check LTE separately. Ask the carrier whether that exact watch model and account can be activated.
If the model is Watch4 or later, these steps will not help: Samsung does not support pairing those watches with iOS.

Should you buy an older Samsung watch for an iPhone?
Usually not as a new purchase. The older models with the clearest iPhone support are legacy devices, so their condition, battery life, app availability, and future software support matter as much as the original compatibility claim. A used watch may also have account or activation issues, a missing charger, or LTE bands your carrier does not support.
An older Galaxy Watch can make sense if you already own one, or if you can get a well-tested device cheaply and only need basic watch functions. Before buying, verify the exact model, confirm the Samsung app is available, test pairing and battery condition, and check LTE with your carrier if relevant. If you need dependable health-monitor features, full iPhone messaging, or long-term ecosystem support, it is a poor bet.
Better smartwatch options for iPhone owners
- Apple Watch: The clearest fit for deep iPhone integration, Apple Pay, Apple Health, Siri, calls, and Apple services. Apple Watch requires an iPhone, and compatible iPhone/iOS requirements vary by watch model; check Apple’s setup guidance and compatibility information.
- Garmin: Worth considering if multisport training, outdoor use, battery life, and flexibility between iPhone and Android matter more than Apple Watch-style integration. Check Garmin Connect’s current Apple-device requirements and the functions of the particular model.
Choose by the experience you need, not just the watch’s brand or Bluetooth capability. An iPhone owner shopping for a current Samsung watch should choose a compatible Android phone as well, or choose another watch.
