Yes. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 can pair with an iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 9 or later. But “sync” means basic notifications, fitness tracking and utilities—not the full smartwatch experience available with Android. Message replies, wrist-based calling, Samsung Pay, Galaxy Store apps and several Samsung health features are unavailable or restricted on iPhone.
That makes the Active2 usable for an iPhone owner who already has one, but a risky purchase if you expect Apple Watch-level integration.
iPhone compatibility requirements
Samsung lists the Galaxy Watch Active2 as compatible with an iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 9 or later. iPad and iPod touch are not supported. Samsung also warns that connections involving the iPhone 6S or 6S Plus on iOS 10 or later may be unstable. See Samsung’s compatibility guidance.

Do not confuse the Active2 with the Galaxy Watch4 and later: those newer Wear OS models are not compatible with iOS, while the older Tizen-based Active2 remains listed as supported.

What you need before pairing
- A Galaxy Watch Active2 (not a Galaxy Watch4 or newer model).
- An iPhone meeting Samsung’s minimum requirements.
- The official Samsung wearable app from the iOS App Store. Search for Samsung’s current official wearable app and verify that the listing supports Active2 in your country.
- Bluetooth enabled, a charged watch and permission to access notifications, contacts and other requested data.
App names, availability and supported versions can change by country. Confirm the App Store listing before resetting a used watch.
How to pair Galaxy Watch Active2 with an iPhone
- Charge and switch on the watch.
- Install Samsung’s compatible wearable app from the iPhone App Store.
- Open the app and choose Start the Journey (or the equivalent setup button).
- Select Galaxy Watch Active2 from the device list.
- When a passkey appears, confirm that the code on the watch matches the code on the iPhone.
- Approve Bluetooth, notification, contacts and other permissions you want to use.
- Complete the on-screen tutorial. If prompted, open Settings > Bluetooth on the iPhone while keeping both devices close together.
- In the wearable app, enable forwarding for each iPhone app whose alerts should appear on the watch.
- Test a notification and a fitness synchronization before relying on the watch. If you need calling, test that separately; an incoming-call alert does not mean calls can be handled from the watch.
Samsung’s Active2 manual documents the general flow of selecting the device, matching passkeys and following the prompts. iPhone wording may differ slightly from the Android-focused manual.
What works with an iPhone
The practical iPhone feature set is best understood as basic smartwatch and fitness functionality.
| Generally usable | Important qualifications |
|---|---|
| Incoming notification display | Requires iPhone and app notification permissions; display is not the same as replying. |
| Steps, activity and exercise tracking | Data and available programs can vary by app version and region. |
| Heart-rate and sleep-phase tracking | These are wellness features, not a medical diagnosis. |
| Contacts, alarms, world clock, stopwatch, timer and calculator | Basic utilities generally work once paired. |
| Altimeter, barometer, gallery viewing, voice recorder and PPT controller | Availability can depend on firmware and the companion app. |
| Find My Watch and Find My Phone | Both devices need the relevant connection and permissions. |
Samsung’s Active2 compatibility table also lists some third-party fitness integrations. Treat that list as a guide rather than a guarantee for every current iPhone configuration.

Notifications, texts and WhatsApp
The watch can mirror incoming alerts from SMS, iMessage, WhatsApp, email and other apps when the iPhone allows notifications and the wearable app is configured to forward them. Actions differ by app. Samsung’s iOS matrix marks message replies as unavailable, so seeing a text notification does not imply that you can answer it from the watch.
What does not work, or is heavily restricted
Samsung’s compatibility matrix marks the following functions unavailable or restricted when an Active2 is connected to iOS:
- Replying to messages, email replies and message-history synchronization.
- Accepting or rejecting calls from the watch, placing outgoing calls, and call-log synchronization.
- Samsung Pay.
- Installing watch apps or watch faces through the Galaxy Store.
- Music play/pause and track controls, music metadata and selecting a music app.
- Bixby or S Voice commands.
- Reminders, current weather and Samsung Connect functions.
- Several Samsung Health programs, including fitness, weight-management, workout and stress-management features.
- MyDay notifications and some image-sharing functions.
An incoming-call notification may still appear. That is fundamentally different from answering, rejecting or making the call on the watch—functions Samsung marks unavailable for iOS.

ECG, blood pressure and Samsung Health Monitor warning
The Active2 contains health sensors, but sensor hardware does not establish iPhone support. Samsung says Samsung Health Monitor features such as ECG, irregular-heart-rhythm notifications and sleep-apnea functions require a Samsung phone. Samsung’s original ECG announcement likewise required a Samsung Galaxy phone running Android 7 or later.

- Keep your beat. You can see if your heart rate is where you want it with Galaxy Watch Active2. Get automatically alerted if your watch detects a high or a low heart rate. This Device and related software are not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease
- Battery built for endurance The Galaxy Watch active2’s long-lasting battery can go for more than a Day on a single charge, and you can always get a quick boost from your compatible Galaxy phone with wireless power share. Works with Qi compatible Samsung
Do not buy an Active2 as an ECG or blood-pressure solution for an iPhone, and do not install unofficial software to bypass the restriction. Wellness readings are not a substitute for professional medical advice or diagnosis.
Does Active2 fitness data sync to Apple Health?
The official material confirms activity, exercise, heart-rate and sleep tracking with iOS, but it does not establish a universal, current export of every category to Apple Health. Support is version- and region-dependent. Before buying, check the current iOS app listing, its requested permissions, whether Apple Health appears as a destination, and whether the specific data you care about—such as steps, sleep or workouts—is supported.
Does LTE make it work like an Apple Watch?
No. LTE can provide additional standalone connectivity in compatible carrier and regional configurations, but it does not unlock iOS features that Samsung’s software restricts. The compatibility table still marks calling, call synchronization, messaging replies, Samsung Pay and other functions unavailable on iPhone.

Samsung also explains that the iPhone connection uses Bluetooth Low Energy. Bandwidth-intensive map, audio and video applications may not work properly while connected to an iPhone; see the developer documentation. Carrier activation and standalone service for an old LTE watch depend on the carrier and country, so verify those details before paying extra.

Bluetooth versus LTE
- Bluetooth: Usually simpler and cheaper, and suitable when the iPhone is nearby. It remains subject to all iOS restrictions.
- LTE: May offer more independent connectivity in supported setups, but adds carrier activation, battery-wear and regional-availability risks. It is poor value if you are buying it specifically for iPhone calls or texts.
Switching an Active2 from Android to iPhone
The watch can connect to only one smartphone at a time. Samsung’s manual says connecting to a new phone automatically resets the watch and removes its data. Before switching:
- Back up important data while the watch is paired to Android.
- Remove or disconnect it from the old wearable app.
- Reset the watch if the new pairing flow requires it.
- Pair it through Samsung’s iPhone wearable app, not only through iPhone Bluetooth settings.
- Reconfigure notifications and expect Android-only apps, faces, settings and health workflows not to transfer.
Troubleshooting
The watch does not appear
- Confirm it is an Active2, not a Watch4 or newer.
- Check the iPhone model and iOS version against Samsung’s requirements.
- Restart both devices and toggle Bluetooth off and on.
- Keep the watch and iPhone close together.
- Remove an old Bluetooth pairing entry, then start pairing from the wearable app.
- If it was paired to another phone, back up data and reset it.
Notifications are missing
- Enable notifications for the relevant iPhone app.
- Enable forwarding for that app in the wearable app.
- Confirm the watch shows an active connection, not merely a saved Bluetooth entry.
- Check Focus, Do Not Disturb, Low Power Mode and app-specific settings.
- Allow Bluetooth access and background operation for the wearable app.
Calls do not work
This may be expected. Samsung marks accepting or rejecting calls, outgoing calls and call-log synchronization unavailable on iOS. LTE does not override those restrictions.
Apps, maps or media behave poorly
BLE bandwidth limits can affect map, audio and video functions. This is a platform limitation, not necessarily a defective watch.
Should you buy a Galaxy Watch Active2 for an iPhone in 2026?
Buy or keep one if you already own it, can get a very low price, and mainly want notifications, steps, workouts, heart rate, sleep tracking and simple utilities.
Best Value
- Vibrant 1.6” AMOLED Display – Large, high-res screen with smooth touch for easy navigation
- 5ATM & IP68 Water Resistance – Swim-ready and dust-resistant for active lifestyles
- Up to 14 Days Battery Life – Powerful 208mAh battery for long-lasting performance

Skip it if you require message replies, reliable wrist calling, deep Apple Health integration, ECG or Samsung Health Monitor, Samsung Pay, a broad app and watch-face ecosystem, Siri integration, or long-term modern smartwatch support. The Active2 launched in 2019 and is now an older Tizen product; verify the exact firmware, battery condition and current App Store availability rather than assuming ongoing support.
For full iPhone integration, an Apple Watch is the natural alternative. Newer Samsung Galaxy Watches are not an iPhone alternative: Samsung lists Galaxy Watch4 and later Wear OS models as incompatible with iOS. They generally require an Android phone, preferably a Samsung Galaxy phone for the broadest features.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Galaxy Watch Active2 receive iPhone notifications?
Yes, incoming notifications can generally be displayed after you enable iPhone and wearable-app permissions. Notification display does not include the full reply and interaction features available with Android.
Can I answer calls or reply to texts from an Active2 paired with an iPhone?
Samsung’s iOS compatibility table marks call handling, outgoing calls and message replies unavailable. An incoming-call or message alert may still appear.
Is LTE Active2 worth buying for an iPhone?
Usually not if cellular calling or messaging is your goal. LTE does not remove iOS restrictions, and carrier activation for an older watch depends on region and carrier.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Galaxy Watch Active2 does sync with compatible iPhones, but only as a limited companion. It is reasonable for basic notifications and fitness tracking—especially if you already own one—but an Apple Watch is the better choice for complete iPhone integration, while advanced Samsung features require an Android phone.
