Yes—but not as a general-purpose thermometer built into Samsung Health. The Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic have an infrared temperature sensor that compatible apps can use for ambient and object readings. Samsung’s standard health features primarily use temperature for skin tracking, and readings from the watch should not replace a medical, food-safety, or professional thermometer.
What temperature sensor does the Galaxy Watch6 have?
Samsung lists a temperature sensor on both the Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic; regional product specifications identify it as an infrared temperature sensor. The sensor hardware does not, by itself, provide a conventional thermometer screen in Samsung Health. Bluetooth and LTE variants should not be assumed to have different temperature hardware, though regional model and software support can vary.

What temperatures can it measure?

Samsung’s API documentation uses the labels OBJECT_TEMPERATURE and AMBIENT_TEMPERATURE. In Samsung’s skin-temperature example, the value labeled OBJECT_TEMPERATURE is used for wrist skin temperature; a consumer app’s “object” mode describes how that app uses the sensor, not necessarily the API label. How to measure an object with the Watch6
Thermo Check 365D is a third-party option whose current Google Play listing says it supports Galaxy Watch5 and later, including the Watch6. Its listed modes include general surfaces, metal, plastic or wood, and water. The app listing specifies roughly five seconds for object measurement and says to remove the watch for object readings.
- Check the app’s current Google Play listing for Watch6 compatibility in your region: Thermo Check 365D.
- Install the app on a compatible Android phone and connect it with the Galaxy Watch as the app directs.
- Open the app and select its living/object mode for a surface, or water mode for a water reading.
- For an object reading, remove the watch from your wrist, then position its sensor as the app instructs.
- Allow approximately five seconds for the app’s stated object-measurement workflow, then review the result in the app. The listing also describes mobile recording and charts.
The listing does not establish a universal measurement distance, accuracy tolerance, operating-temperature range, or calibration method. Treat a result as an approximate convenience reading, not a guaranteed measurement. Can it measure room temperature while worn?
The sensor can return ambient-temperature data around the watch, but a tightly worn watch is a poor stand-in for a room thermometer: skin contact, wrist position, clothing, and the watch’s operating temperature can affect the reading. Samsung also identifies surrounding conditions and how the watch is worn as factors in skin-temperature readings. If an app offers an ambient mode, expose the sensor to the surrounding air and allow it to stabilize; do not assume a reading taken on the wrist is accurate room air.

Can it detect a fever?
No—not reliably as a medical thermometer. Skin-surface temperature and thermometer-measured body temperature are different measurements, and Samsung says its sensor data is for wellness rather than diagnosis. If a fever decision matters, use an appropriate medical thermometer and follow medical guidance.
Why might a reading be off?
- Residual wrist heat: A watch just removed from the wrist may still be warmer than its surroundings.
- Uncontrolled positioning: Distance, angle, and whether the target fills the sensor’s measurement area can affect an infrared reading; the app listing does not give a universal distance or target-size specification.
- Radiant heat and weather: Direct sun, nearby hot or cold objects, moving air, steam, water movement, or condensation can alter conditions around the sensor.
- Surface properties: Shiny or reflective materials can be difficult for infrared measurement. A material preset does not establish a guaranteed accuracy for that surface.
- Insufficient stabilization: Measuring before the sensor and watch have settled can produce a misleading result.
- Software or setup problems: App compatibility, permissions, pairing, or software state can prevent a measurement or synchronization from working as expected.
- Wrong interpretation: Skin temperature is not ambient temperature or core body temperature, and none of these watch readings should be treated as a fever check.
Is the Watch6 a good choice for temperature measurement?

- Room air: A digital indoor thermometer or calibrated data logger, especially for continuous monitoring.
- Food or liquid: A food-safe probe thermometer when the result affects safe handling or cooking.
- Non-contact surface checks: A dedicated infrared thermometer designed for surface measurements.
- Human fever: A medical thermometer designed for body-temperature measurement.
The Watch6 can be convenient for a rough check if a compatible app supports the measurement, but it is a poor reason to buy the watch solely as a thermometer. App availability and setup may also depend on a paired Android phone; Samsung’s setup guidance points users to Galaxy Wearable and compatible phone software. LTE service is not the sensor requirement.
