Yes. The standard Verizon Gizmo Watch 3 can make video calls with parent-approved contacts through Verizon’s companion app. Calls are capped at three minutes and may end sooner if the watch gets too warm, so the feature is best for brief check-ins—not long conversations. The Gizmo Watch 3–Adventure is a different, camera-free model and does not support video calling.
Which Gizmo Watch 3 supports video calls?

Check the exact model name before buying. A listing that says “Adventure” or “No Camera” should not be treated as the standard video-capable Watch 3. Verizon introduced the Watch 3 in June 2024; it is a current listed product, but it is not a newly launched 2026 watch. Verizon’s Watch 3 product page and Gizmo support FAQ distinguish the models.
How video calling works
The child uses the watch’s camera and touchscreen; the adult uses Verizon’s companion app on a compatible smartphone. It is an app-mediated, parent-controlled calling feature, not a regular phone-number video call or an open video-chat service such as FaceTime, Zoom or Google Meet. The watch is not a general internet device or an open app platform for installing arbitrary video-calling services.

What parents need before a call
- The standard Gizmo Watch 3, rather than the no-camera Adventure model.
- An active Verizon connected-device line and a watch powered on and connected to Verizon’s network.
- A compatible iPhone or Android smartphone with Verizon’s companion app set up. Verizon is moving Gizmo management from GizmoHub to Verizon Family.
- A parent or guardian to configure the account and approve contacts, including any required consent for video calling.
- Adequate connectivity for both the watch and the adult’s phone.
The child’s watch service is listed by Verizon at $10 per month plus taxes and fees, with talk, text and data. Verizon says data speeds may be reduced to up to 600 Kbps after 15 GB of 4G LTE use in a month. Verizon says Gizmo management features in Verizon Family carry no additional charge during the transition; optional Verizon Family Plus features are separate. - Update GizmoHub from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Open GizmoHub and tap More.
- Tap Manage Devices, then select the child’s Gizmo Watch 3.
- Turn on Video Calling and accept the consent prompt.
- Retrieve the verification code sent by email, enter it in the app and confirm activation.
This path is not necessarily the current route for every account. Verizon is retiring GizmoHub and moving setup and management to Verizon Family, while its public support material still includes GizmoHub-based instructions. For a new setup or an account already migrated, use Verizon Family and its current in-app guidance; do not assume the old menu labels still appear. For migration, Verizon says the primary account guardian should set up Verizon Family before caregivers migrate. Sign in with existing Verizon credentials; non-Verizon customers may need the Apple ID or Google account previously used with GizmoHub. Register with the adult’s mobile number, not the Gizmo watch number. Caregivers and trusted contacts may also need the Verizon Family app. Verizon warns users not to restart or reset the watch during migration; deleting a Gizmo can remove settings, contacts and photos.

What to expect during a video call
Three minutes at most
Verizon limits video calls to three minutes to reduce overheating risk. That makes the feature useful for a short reassurance or visual check-in, not a substitute for an extended video conversation. A call ending at the limit is expected behavior, not by itself evidence of a fault.
Heat can end a call sooner
If the watch gets too warm, it may show a thermometer warning; at its maximum temperature threshold, the call ends and the watch enters a cooling period. Let it cool before trying again. Verizon’s product and support details are on its Watch 3 page and Gizmo support FAQ.

Contact approval and connection still matter
Only authorized contacts can communicate with the watch, and both devices need adequate connectivity. Verizon’s public materials establish the feature and its limits, but do not establish independent call-quality or reliability results.

Verizon’s product page displayed a $149.99 retail price, a 36-month, 0% APR payment option of about $4.16 per month before promotional credits, and a $40 one-time activation fee per device when checked August 18, 2026. The connected-device service is $10 per month plus taxes and fees under Verizon’s support terms. The Verizon Family app and migrated Gizmo management features are not an additional charge under Verizon’s stated terms. Verizon Family Plus is a separate paid service; its price and any plan-specific perk pricing are distinct from the Gizmo watch line.
Safety and privacy boundaries to understand
- Contacts are controlled by the adult. The parent chooses approved contacts and assigns permissions; this gives control but does not give the child unrestricted calling.
- There is no general web or open video-chat access. The watch is designed as a focused child-contact device, not a miniature unrestricted smartphone.
- Do not count on it for 911. Verizon says Gizmo watches are not compatible with 911 or similar emergency telephone-number systems, and 911 cannot be programmed as a contact. The SOS feature should not be treated as emergency dispatch.
- Location and other features also rely on the app and service. Verizon lists voice calling, texts, voice and video recordings, photos, SOS and location features, with permissions and management handled through the companion ecosystem.
These limits make the Watch 3 a poor fit for a family that needs wearable 911 calling, long video chats, unrestricted app access, or service outside the United States and reliable Verizon coverage.
If video calling is missing or ends unexpectedly
- Verify the model: confirm it is the standard Watch 3, not Watch 3–Adventure.
- Check app status: update the app and determine whether the account has moved from GizmoHub to Verizon Family. Use the matching app’s current instructions rather than assuming old menus remain.
- Check activation and permissions: confirm video calling was enabled and consented to, and that the adult is an approved contact with appropriate permissions.
- Check connectivity: the watch must be on and connected to Verizon, and the smartphone needs adequate connectivity.
- If it stops at three minutes or shows a temperature warning: this can be normal; let the watch cool before retrying.
- Keep software current: Verizon lists a Watch 3 software update released January 5, 2026, version QTAX57_20B53. Verizon says to keep the watch powered on and on its charger during an update. Details: Watch 3 software update information.
Do not factory-reset as a first troubleshooting step, especially during an account migration: Verizon warns that resetting or deleting a Gizmo can remove data or settings, and advises against restarting or resetting during migration.

Who the Gizmo Watch 3 suits
The standard Watch 3 makes sense for a family that wants a controlled way for a child to make brief visual check-ins, alongside calling, messaging and location features, and is comfortable managing contacts and settings through Verizon’s app ecosystem and paying for a Verizon connected-device line. It is a poor match when the child needs longer video conversations, broad video-app compatibility, 911 calling from the watch or carrier flexibility. The Adventure version is the camera-free choice, not the video-calling one.
