Usually, no. A standard Samsung Galaxy Watch charging puck is designed for compatible Galaxy Watch hardware and is not a dependable charger for an Apple Watch. The fact that the magnet attaches—or that both accessories are described as “wireless”—does not prove that charging is compatible.
For reliable charging, use the Apple magnetic charging cable supplied with your watch, an Apple-certified third-party charger marked Made for Apple Watch, or a multi-device station with a separate Apple Watch charging module.
The answer depends on which Samsung charger you mean

Why a Samsung puck can stick without charging
Magnetic attachment is only mechanical. The magnet holds the watch and charger together; it does not establish that the charging electronics, coil placement, identification process, and charging communication are compatible.
Apple identifies its accessories as Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cables or Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charging Cables and recommends Apple-made or MFi-certified Apple Watch chargers. Apple warns that counterfeit or uncertified chargers can cause slow charging, repeated chimes, or reduced battery life. See Apple’s charger identification and certification guidance.

Samsung likewise distinguishes among Galaxy Watch charging docks and advises using a dock matched to the watch model. Its current guidance describes different charging hardware for newer Galaxy Watch models and older Galaxy Watch, Gear S3, and Gear Sport devices. A Samsung puck is therefore not a universal smartwatch charger, even within Samsung’s own range. Check Samsung’s current Galaxy Watch charging guidance before buying a replacement.
What happens if you try the Samsung puck?
An Apple Watch may attract to the puck but:
- show no charging indicator;
- chime repeatedly;
- start and stop charging;
- charge unusually slowly;
- remain at the same percentage; or
- display an incompatibility or “Unable to charge” message.
If the watch does not clearly show that charging has begun and the battery percentage is increasing, remove it. Do not leave an unverified combination connected for an extended period, particularly if the watch or charger becomes warmer than expected.

This is the accessory most people mean by “Samsung Watch charger.” It is intended for compatible Galaxy Watch models, not as a general replacement for an Apple Watch charger.

Samsung wireless charging pad
A phone-oriented Qi charging pad may charge compatible phones or earbuds. Its watch area can have separate, model-specific restrictions. The word “Qi” does not mean every watch charger works with every watch. Samsung says generic wireless charging pads apply only to Galaxy Watch models that support Qi; that guidance does not turn a Samsung Watch dock into an Apple Watch charger.

Wireless PowerShare
Samsung Wireless PowerShare is designed for compatible devices, including certain Galaxy phones, Galaxy Watches, and earbuds. Samsung’s documentation does not establish it as a guaranteed Apple Watch charging method. Treat it as an unreliable experiment, not an emergency solution. Samsung also lists model-specific PowerShare limitations, including current restrictions for Galaxy Watch7, Galaxy Watch Ultra, and Galaxy Watch8-series models. Availability and compatibility can change, so consult Samsung’s PowerShare guidance for the relevant phone and watch.
How to identify a charger that really supports Apple Watch
- Look for explicit Apple Watch support. The product should say “Made for Apple Watch” or name the exact Apple Watch models it supports.
- Check for a dedicated watch module. A three-in-one station normally uses separate hardware for the phone, earbuds, Apple Watch, and Galaxy Watch. A flat Qi phone surface is not the same thing as an Apple Watch charging puck.
- Check certification and the manufacturer. Prefer Apple accessories or a genuine MFi-certified accessory. Avoid an unbranded puck that merely says “universal,” “wireless watch charger,” or “Samsung Watch compatible.”
- Verify the model list. Do not assume that support for one Apple Watch generation or one Samsung Watch generation covers all others.
Apple’s support page lists identifying model numbers for genuine charging cables, including A1570, A1598, A1647, A1714, A1768, A1923, A2055, A2056, A2086, A2255, A2256, A2257, A2458, A2515, A2652, and A2879. The product documentation remains the best way to confirm a specific accessory.
What should you use instead?
Best simple replacement
Use the Apple Watch magnetic charging cable that came with the watch, or buy Apple’s Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable. The watch-specific charging hardware is in the cable and magnetic charger assembly; changing only the wall adapter does not make a Samsung puck compatible.

Best lower-cost option
Choose a reputable third-party charger carrying the Made for Apple Watch designation and listing your exact model. Apple recognizes certified third-party accessories, but an inexpensive magnetic puck without certification or a clear model list is a poor bet.

Best option for homes with both watches
Choose a multi-device station that explicitly names both Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch support. Confirm that it includes:
- a separate Apple Watch charging module;
- a separate Galaxy Watch-compatible module or the correct interchangeable cable;
- support for the exact Galaxy Watch generation;
- Apple Watch fast-charging support if you need it; and
- Made for Apple Watch certification for the Apple charging portion, where applicable.
A station advertised only as “Qi,” “wireless,” or “smartwatch compatible” does not provide enough evidence.

Fast charging is not created by using a higher-wattage adapter with the wrong puck. Apple says fast charging requires the Apple USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable and a compatible USB-C Power Delivery power source. Apple’s supported-model list and charging requirements can change; check its current fast-charging guidance for your watch model and region.

Safe troubleshooting if an Apple Watch will not charge
Use these steps with a known-compatible Apple Watch charger rather than continuing to test a Samsung puck:
- Remove the watch case, protective film, magnetic card, or metal accessory.
- Clean and dry the rear of the Apple Watch and the charging connector.
- Place the back of the watch against the connector and allow the charger to center magnetically.
- Confirm that the charging indicator appears and that the battery percentage begins increasing.
- Reconnect the USB cable and try another compatible adapter and wall outlet.
- Restart the Apple Watch if it still does not respond.
- Test with another known-good Apple Watch charger.
Samsung warns that metal or magnetic materials between a watch and its dock can reduce charging efficiency or cause damage; the same alignment principle makes removing cases and debris a sensible Apple Watch troubleshooting step. If a certified Apple Watch charger still fails after these checks, contact Apple Support or the accessory manufacturer.
Exceptions and regional considerations
Do not confuse a Samsung-branded multi-device station with a Samsung Galaxy Watch puck. Some third-party stations support both ecosystems by incorporating separate charging hardware. That is a legitimate exception, but the product must explicitly list Apple Watch compatibility.
Apple also documents regional wireless-power-transfer requirements affecting some charging combinations in mainland China and Indonesia. In those circumstances, an Apple Watch can show “Unable to charge” with an incompatible charging accessory. This is a regional qualification, not a rule that changes the general advice for all Apple Watch owners. See Apple’s regional charging guidance.
Finally, Samsung’s charger lineup is not one universal category. Newer Galaxy Watch models generally use a flat magnetic dock, while older Galaxy Watch, Gear S3, and Gear Sport models use a different wireless charging dock. Identify the exact Samsung watch and charger model before purchasing a Samsung replacement—but do not purchase one as an Apple Watch solution.
Bottom line
A Samsung Galaxy Watch puck is not a dependable Apple Watch charger. If you need to charge an Apple Watch, use the included Apple cable, an Apple or Made for Apple Watch-certified replacement, or a multi-device charger with a separately labeled Apple Watch charging module. A magnet, a Qi label, or a Samsung brand name alone is not enough.
