Verdict: The Casio CRW-001-1JR is a miniature digital watch worn as a ring. It tells the time, shows the date and day, offers dual time and a 1/100-second stopwatch, and adds an LED backlight plus a flashing time signal. But it does not offer the health tracking, Bluetooth, phone synchronization, notifications, or payments associated with smart rings such as Oura Ring or Samsung Galaxy Ring.
Think of it as a classic Casio digital watch reduced to jewelry size: functional, distinctive, and deliberately simple rather than connected.
What is the Casio CRW-001-1JR?
The CRW-001-1JR is the Japanese-market designation for Casio’s ring watch. International Casio product pages generally identify the model as CRW-001-1. It was introduced as part of Casio’s 50th-anniversary watch celebrations and revisits the company’s ring-watch concept.
Casio says the watch module was reduced to roughly one-tenth the size of a standard watch module. The result is not a smartwatch compressed into a ring, but a conventional quartz digital watch engineered to fit on a finger.

Casio’s official specifications are the best reference for the model’s functions, dimensions, materials, battery, and fit.
What the ring watch can do
- Display digital time down to the second.
- Show the month, date, day, and PM indicator.
- Switch between 12-hour and 24-hour formats.
- Display a second time zone through dual time.
- Measure elapsed time with a 1/100-second stopwatch.
- Illuminate the display with a white LED backlight.
- Flash the display at a daily or hourly time signal.
- Use an auto-calendar that treats February as a 28-day month.
Casio rates accuracy at approximately ±30 seconds per month. The Time Flash feature is primarily an entertainment-oriented light effect. It is not a conventional audible alarm or a phone-notification system, and it may be difficult to see in bright surroundings.
Is the CRW-001-1JR really a smart ring?
Only if “smart ring” is being used loosely to mean a clever or unusual ring-shaped gadget. In the technical sense used for connected wearables, the answer is no.

That absence matters because a buyer searching for an Oura-style health wearable could reasonably expect sensors and an app. The CRW-001 does not appear to be designed for that purpose. Casio documents smartphone-connected functions for other watch modules, but those capabilities should not be transferred to this model merely because it comes from the same brand. For example, Casio’s connected-watch support documentation applies to a different module.
The most accurate description is simple: a smart-looking ring watch, not a smart ring. Its “intelligence” is in the miniature watch engineering, not in sensors or software.
Design and construction
The CRW-001 uses a stainless-steel case, bezel, and ring construction with mineral glass. Casio describes metal-injection molding as part of the manufacturing process, forming the case, case back, and ring as a unified structure. A special glass-adhesive technique helps create a seal while still allowing the battery to be replaced.

Visually, the tiny screen and dimpled metal body reproduce the language of a classic Casio digital watch. That is the attraction: it is a working timepiece, collectible, conversation piece, and fashion accessory at the same time. The light-flash feature adds personality without pretending to be a notification system.

Ring sizing and comfort
Fit is more important here than it is with an ordinary watch because the product is not continuously adjustable. Casio lists a main inner diameter of approximately 20 mm and a circumference of approximately 62.8 mm. Its stated primary fit is Japanese size 22, approximately US 10.5 / EU U.
The package includes two spacers:
- Approximately 19 mm inner diameter, or 59.7 mm circumference
- Approximately 18 mm inner diameter, or 56.6 mm circumference
These spacers provide limited adjustment; they do not make the ring universally adjustable. Measure the intended finger before ordering, and remember that finger size changes with temperature, exercise, and time of day.
A too-tight ring can become uncomfortable or difficult to remove. A loose ring may rotate, leaving the display facing sideways. The watch module also makes the ring wider and more top-heavy than a normal band. Casio’s U.S. ring-watch page notes that it need not be worn only on the ring finger, so choose the finger that provides the best combination of comfort, clearance, and readability.
Battery and maintenance
The CRW-001 uses a replaceable SR621SW button battery with an approximate life of two years. Actual life varies with use and conditions. It is neither rechargeable nor solar powered.

For battery replacement, consult the model-specific CRW-001-1 support page and operation guide. If maintaining water resistance after servicing is important, an authorized service center is the safer choice. Casio also provides a general watch manual search.
Water resistance: read the label literally
Casio lists the CRW-001 simply as “Water Resistant.” Do not translate that into “waterproof,” “swim-proof,” or dive-ready. The product page does not give it the 200-meter water-resistance and shock-resistance positioning associated with Casio’s G-SHOCK Nano ring watches.
Until the model’s operation guide gives more specific permission, sensible precautions include:
- Avoid hot showers, saunas, and steam.
- Do not operate the buttons underwater.
- Rinse and dry it after exposure to salt water or chemicals.
- Have the seal considered after battery replacement.

These are different categories rather than direct feature-for-feature competitors. A true smart ring manages sensors, smartphone software, and health data. The Casio manages timekeeping, physical controls, and miniature mechanical-electronic design.

Who should buy it?
Buy it if
- You are a Casio collector or retro-digital design fan.
- The miniature-watch concept is the main attraction.
- You want a real working timepiece rather than a decorative ring.
- You like physical controls and independence from apps and subscriptions.
- Your finger matches one of the available sizing options.
- You want an unusual, functional gift or conversation piece.
Skip it if
- You want sleep, health, fitness, or recovery tracking.
- You need phone notifications or automatic synchronization.
- You require a fully adjustable or custom-sized ring.
- You expect G-SHOCK-level toughness.
- You dislike wearing a relatively bulky object on a finger.
- You are considering a large reseller premium simply because the product is scarce.
Availability and buying advice
Availability, regional model names, warranty coverage, and price can vary. Check the relevant U.S. or Canadian Casio page before buying. Do not treat an old launch price as the current price, and compare any reseller’s warranty, return policy, and authenticity protections with the official route.

Final verdict
The Casio CRW-001-1JR is worth considering when you want charm, novelty, and genuine basic watch functions in an exceptionally small package. It is not a substitute for an Oura Ring, Galaxy Ring, or other connected health wearable.
Buy it for the miniature Casio experience and retro design. Do not buy it expecting smart-ring analytics.
