The Casio Sports Gear STB-1000 was a 2014 Bluetooth sports watch that could display workout data from compatible iPhone apps and deliver basic phone alerts. It did not independently track workouts like a modern fitness watch. In 2026, its connected features are legacy functions: Casio ended support for the STB-1000+ smartphone app on August 31, 2024, and partner fitness-app support had already ended in 2017.
What the STB-1000 was
Casio announced the Sports Gear STB-1000 at CES on January 7, 2014. It sat between a conventional digital sports watch and an early phone-connected wearable: a wrist display for information generated by compatible iPhone fitness apps, with alerts and music controls alongside its regular watch functions. Casio’s launch announcement described Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy connectivity and features aimed at runners and cyclists. Casio’s announcement
“Bluetooth watch” did not mean that the STB-1000 had its own GPS, step counter, or heart-rate sensor. The phone app supplied most workout information; pulse display required a compatible heart-rate monitor. The watch could show information, but it was not a standalone fitness tracker.

What workout information it could show
With a compatible app and phone connection, the STB-1000 could display running pace, distance, elapsed time, pulse, cycling speed, and pedal rotations. Which fields appeared depended on the app, the workout, and the connected sensors. The watch also had its own stopwatch with elapsed, lap, and split timing.

In a contemporary test, Tom’s Guide reported that Wahoo Fitness showed distance, elapsed time, and pace, with beats per minute available when a heart monitor was paired. The review said workouts had to be started and stopped in the app, although watch buttons could pause or resume and mark laps in some contexts. Tom’s Guide’s historical review
Which apps and phones it supported
Casio historically listed these partner apps: Runmeter GPS, Walkmeter GPS, Cyclemeter GPS, MapMyRun, MapMyWalk, MapMyRide, MapMyHike, MapMyFitness, Runtastic GPS, and Wahoo Fitness for iOS. That list is not a current compatibility promise. Casio records partner-app support as ending on December 31, 2017. Casio’s compatibility information
Casio’s confirmed-phone list covered older iPhones and iOS versions, including iPhone 7 and 7 Plus on iOS 10, iPhone SE on iOS 9.3–10, and earlier iPhone generations on older releases. Casio warns that operation is not guaranteed on unlisted phones and that phone software updates may break functions that previously worked. The accurate description is historically compatible with select older iPhones—not currently supported for iPhone or Android.

Phone alerts and music controls
Alerts were brief, not a notification center
The watch could alert the wearer to incoming calls and mail, using sound or vibration, and display limited caller or message information depending on phone and app configuration. Tom’s Guide reported calls, texts, voicemail, calendar, email, Facebook, and Twitter alerts in its test setup. That is a historical test result, not a guarantee for every app, carrier, or phone. Casio’s Mobile Link guide describes incoming-call and mail alerts.
The display is small; a long message could be truncated and scrolled. Tom’s Guide also criticized the button-driven interface as unintuitive. The STB-1000 did not offer a full message inbox or the richer notification handling expected of a current smartwatch.
Music and phone finder
Casio said the watch could play or stop music, adjust volume, and move between tracks on an iPhone. Tom’s Guide found these controls worked with music stored on the iPhone, but not necessarily with streaming services; that observation reflects its period of testing, not current app behavior. The watch also included a phone-finder function.

Hardware and functions that did not need a phone
| Feature | Casio’s launch specification |
|---|---|
| Wireless | Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy |
| Water resistance | 100 meters |
| Battery | CR2032; approximately two years advertised, assuming Mobile Link use for 12 hours per day |
| Case size and weight | 52.5 × 47.0 × 15.5 mm; approximately 55 g |
| Accuracy | ±15 seconds per month |
| Stopwatch memory | Up to 120 records |
| World time | 100 cities; 35 time zones |
Casio also specified a 1/100-second stopwatch, a countdown timer with a maximum setting of 100 hours, five daily alarms plus a one-time alarm and snooze, LED backlight, full auto-calendar, 12/24-hour format, vibration alert, tap function, and power-saving mode. These offline features make the watch more useful as a sports chronograph than as a current connected fitness device. The figures above come from Casio’s launch specifications.
A 100-meter rating is not an unconditional assurance for every water activity. On a used watch, age, case condition, seals, and any battery replacement affect whether it remains safe around water; have water resistance tested rather than relying on the original rating alone.
How pairing worked historically
Casio’s original setup relied on an iPhone, the relevant companion or fitness app, Bluetooth, and the watch’s pairing control. In Casio’s Wahoo guide, the app path was Settings + Help > Workout Settings > workout type > Add New under Sensors Used, then select CASIO STB-1000, hold the watch’s front button for about two seconds, and accept the pairing request. A Bluetooth icon on the watch indicated a connection. The guide is for the historical iPhone setup, not current devices: Casio’s Wahoo pairing guide.

Casio says STB-1000+ app support ended August 31, 2024, and warns that an already-installed app may stop working after smartphone operating-system updates. Combined with the 2017 end of partner-app support and the dated confirmed-phone list, this means current smart functions are unsupported and uncertain—not something to count on when buying. Casio’s 2024 support notice
- Phone-independent use: timekeeping, alarms, world time, timer, backlight, and stopwatch functions may still be useful if the individual watch works.
- Bluetooth workout display, alerts, and music control: treat these as contingent legacy functions that require compatible surviving software and an old supported setup; Casio does not establish current compatibility.
- Modern fitness needs: the STB-1000 should not be relied on for standalone GPS, onboard heart-rate or activity tracking, health-platform syncing, or supported smartphone notifications.
Do not assume that finding an old app download or following the historic pairing guide will make the connected features work on a current phone. Casio’s material does not establish that result.

Should you buy a used STB-1000?
| If you want… | How the STB-1000 fits |
|---|---|
| An early Bluetooth watch to collect | Consider it if the price and condition suit a legacy device. |
| Basic stopwatch and lap timing | Potentially suitable if the buttons, display, and timing functions work. |
| Current phone notifications or Android use | Poor fit; current compatibility is unsupported. |
| Modern fitness tracking or GPS workouts | Poor fit; it depends on a phone app for workout data and lacks standalone GPS. |
| A dependable, supported training watch | Choose a currently supported fitness-watch category instead. |
Before buying, check the actual unit rather than assuming its original features remain intact:
- Test the display, every button, backlight, vibration, stopwatch, and alarms.
- Ask whether the CR2032 battery has been replaced and inspect for corrosion or display damage.
- Inspect the strap, bezel, and case for wear or damage; check replacement-part fit for the specific variant.
- If the case has been opened or the watch is old, do not rely on its original water-resistance rating without a suitable pressure test.
- Value it as a conventional digital sports watch unless you have a preserved legacy phone-and-app setup and accept that Bluetooth operation is unverified.
Casio’s approximately two-year battery estimate was a launch figure based on 12 hours of Mobile Link use per day, not a prediction for an aged second-hand watch. The $99 figure in Tom’s Guide’s review was also a historical price, not a 2026 resale guide; used prices depend on seller, condition, completeness, and location.
