Verdict: The Casio WSD-F10 was an unusually tough and distinctive Android Wear watch for 2016, with excellent physical controls, outdoor tools and a useful low-power monochrome mode. In 2026 it is mainly a cheap used Casio novelty or basic notification watch. Its lack of built-in GPS, aging battery, discontinued normal Play Store distribution and unsupported features make it a poor choice for dependable modern navigation, training or long-term smartwatch use.
What the Casio WSD-F10 is
Announced on January 6, 2016, the WSD-F10 was Casio’s first Smart Outdoor Watch. It combined Android Wear (later renamed Wear OS by Google) with a rugged Casio-style case aimed at trekking, cycling, fishing, skiing and similar activities. The original colors were orange, green, black and red. Casio’s launch description is available in its original announcement.
The concept remains unusual: this is a tough outdoor watch with a smartwatch layer, rather than a slim general-purpose smartwatch designed to look rugged.
Design, size and durability
Large physical buttons are the WSD-F10’s clearest advantage outdoors. The three-button layout comprises a power/app button, a function button and a tool button, allowing key controls while wearing gloves. Contemporary reviews from Stuff and Digital Trends highlighted this distinction from ordinary Android Wear watches.

Those dimensions and weight come from Casio’s user guide. It is very large by current smartwatch standards and can press against smaller wrists or jacket cuffs. “MIL-STD-810G tested” describes Casio’s testing claim; it does not mean the watch is indestructible or guaranteed against every form of abuse. Likewise, use “50-metre water resistant,” not universally waterproof.
On a used example, inspect the screen for delamination or cracks, test every button, check for battery swelling and charging-contact corrosion, and examine the band and case seals. Age, impact and previous servicing can compromise water resistance, so an old unit’s original rating is not proof that it remains safe for swimming.
Dual-layer display and timekeeping
The watch uses a color LCD for apps and measurements over a monochrome LCD for low-power timekeeping. Casio’s Timepiece Mode disables smart functions and shows time information on the monochrome layer. Casio claimed more than one month in that mode under its stated test conditions in the launch announcement.

The attraction is that the WSD-F10 can behave like a basic outdoor watch when smart features are unnecessary. The trade-off is equally important: Timepiece Mode is not a full smartwatch experience, so buyers must decide whether fallback timekeeping matters more than modern health, navigation and app hardware.
Outdoor tools: useful instruments, not modern navigation
TOOL
Casio’s TOOL functions and watch faces can present altitude, barometric pressure, direction, sunrise and sunset, tide or fishing information and other environmental data. Availability varies with platform, country, software version and configuration; Casio documents the supported combinations in its WSD-F10 FAQ and feature documentation.

ACTIVITY
Activity modes target trekking, cycling, fishing and other outdoor pursuits, showing information such as distance, altitude, heading and route-related data where supported. Casio’s updated manual lists some Activity types, history and export functions as unavailable on the WSD-F10 after the Wear OS update. Do not assume every feature shown for newer WSD models exists here.
MOMENT SETTER+
Many TOOL, ACTIVITY and MOMENT SETTER functions require the phone-installed CASIO MOMENT SETTER+ component. Use Casio’s current download instructions rather than an arbitrary third-party app source.
Android Wear smartwatch experience
For its time, Android Wear added notifications, watch faces, voice-related functions through the built-in microphone, third-party apps and phone-linked communication. Shortcut buttons made Casio tools faster to reach than on many touchscreen-only watches.
The compromise was conceptual as much as technical. Android Wear was notification-centric, while an outdoor watch is supposed to keep attention on surroundings and instruments. Digital Trends and Wareable both captured that tension: the WSD-F10 was more differentiated than ordinary Android Wear hardware, but its smart layer could feel intrusive or unfocused outdoors.
Phone compatibility and software support in 2026
Casio currently recommends Android 6.0 or newer, excluding Android Go, and iOS 12 or newer with limited functionality. Compatibility still varies by phone, country, platform and feature. Casio says older configurations using Android 4.3 or later or iOS 9 or later may continue to function, but those legacy figures are not a recommendation for a new setup. There is an additional ownership risk: Casio says Wear OS by Google phone-app distribution through Google Play ended on November 1, 2025. Android users are directed to Casio’s official download page. Depending on the phone and region, setup may involve a Casio-provided download or sideloading process rather than a normal Play Store installation. The watch is therefore no longer a straightforward plug-and-play purchase.
iPhone experience
The WSD-F10 can work with iPhones under Casio’s guidance, but communication-dependent functions require the Wear OS app to be running and functionality is restricted. It is a possible pairing, not an Apple Watch equivalent. Android meeting Casio’s current requirements is the better target.
Battery life and aging hardware
There is no responsible universal runtime for a used WSD-F10. Display mode, notifications, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, outdoor tools, connection quality, temperature and battery age all change results. The only prominently stated long-life figure is Casio’s more-than-one-month claim for Timepiece Mode under its test conditions.
A battery from a 2016-era watch may have substantially reduced capacity. Before buying, ask for a photo showing it charging, evidence of behavior after a full charge, confirmation that it does not shut down randomly, the charger’s inclusion and proof that it boots and can complete pairing. Do not assume a replacement battery is cheap, easy or officially available in your region.

- Charge the watch and confirm that it boots without swelling, overheating or intermittent shutdowns.
- Back up anything needed, remove the old pairing and factory-reset the watch.
- Check Casio’s compatibility page for the exact phone and operating system.
- Follow Casio’s current Android download route for Wear OS; do not rely on an unofficial APK.
- Pair through the supported Wear OS process, then install or configure CASIO MOMENT SETTER+ if required.
- Check available watch and app updates.
- Test notifications, phone connection, compass and barometer tools, and every location-dependent feature before going outdoors.
If the Wear OS app cannot be found
Normal Play Store distribution ended according to Casio. Use its official download instructions and verify that your phone permits the supported installation route.

If pairing fails after a phone change
Old pairing data, an unsupported Android edition, missing companion software or regional restrictions can all be responsible. Remove the old connection, restart both devices, factory-reset the watch and retry using Casio’s official process. Consult the WSD-F10 FAQ if it still fails.
If outdoor data looks wrong
Sensor-estimated altitude, phone-derived GPS location and actual elevation above sea level are different measurements. Casio warns that GPS altitude may not exactly match actual elevation, and the WSD-F10 depends on the phone for location.
If activity history or export is missing
This may be an unsupported WSD-F10 function rather than a fault. Casio’s updated WSD-F10/F20 manual lists Activity history and export among the unavailable features: updated manual.

Alternatives by use case
A current GPS outdoor watch is a better choice for independent navigation, longer endurance, training data and activity history. A current Wear OS watch is better for modern apps, faster performance and ongoing Android integration. iPhone owners generally get a more coherent experience from an Apple Watch. A later Casio WSD model may improve GPS and hardware limitations, but it is still an older product family: verify the exact model’s compatibility, software availability, GPS and battery condition through Casio’s WSD support hub.

Final assessment
The WSD-F10’s historical significance is high: it made a credible attempt to merge Casio’s glove-friendly outdoor hardware with Android Wear. Its rugged case, physical controls, dual display and Casio-specific tools remain distinctive. In 2026, however, phone-dependent location, missing post-update functions, uncertain app distribution and aging batteries outweigh that novelty for most buyers.
Buy one only when the price is low, the charger and battery are verified, a return policy exists and your phone passes Casio’s compatibility checks. Treat it as a tough Casio timepiece with an early smartwatch layer—not as a dependable modern GPS outdoor watch.
