The Cicret Bracelet was a 2014 product concept and crowdfunding proposition, not a verified consumer device that reliably projected a touchscreen onto the arm. Its famous video showed the intended experience, but it was explicitly labeled a “Concept video,” and no independently verified production version became available to ordinary buyers. Current listings using the Cicret name or old promotional images should therefore be treated with extreme caution.
What Cicret promised
Cicret was presented as a bracelet that could turn the wearer’s forearm into a phone-like interface. A miniature projector would cast the display onto the skin while sensors detected taps, swipes, zooms and other finger movements. The phone could remain in a pocket or bag while the user interacted with its interface on the arm.
The pitch was framed as an alternative to both a smartphone and Google Glass: rather than putting a display in front of the eye, Cicret would place it on a familiar part of the body. Contemporary descriptions attributed a pico-projector, eight proximity sensors, wireless connectivity, onboard processing, storage and vibration feedback to the proposed device. Those were reported design claims, not specifications verified from a mass-produced product. PNNL’s 2014 technology report recorded the concept and its proposed components.

The video that made Cicret famous was uploaded in 2014 with “Concept video” in its title. That distinction is crucial. It presented a polished sequence of the intended user experience; it did not independently demonstrate a finished bracelet operating in ordinary conditions.

Later reposts frequently removed or obscured that context, making the footage look like proof that a working product already existed. An AFP Fact Check investigation reported that the circulating material showed concept or mock-up imagery rather than establishing a functioning, production-ready device. Some visual effects may have been created or enhanced in post-production, but the safest conclusion is narrower: the video cannot prove that a working retail bracelet existed.
Why the concept was technically difficult
Nothing about the individual ingredients was pure science fiction. Miniature projectors exist, wireless devices can communicate with phones, and proximity or infrared sensors can detect nearby movement. The hard problem was combining those systems in a small, comfortable, battery-powered bracelet that worked reliably on a moving arm.
Projection on a moving forearm
A forearm is curved, irregular and constantly changing orientation. The projector would need to keep the image sufficiently focused and aligned as the wrist rotated. Skin texture, hair, clothing and different arm shapes would further affect image quality.
Recommended Free Tools
Brightness would also be a major limitation. A small projector must compete with daylight and indoor lighting, while increasing brightness raises power consumption and heat. A phone or watch uses a self-emissive display; Cicret’s proposed image would have had to reflect light from the skin.
Detecting touch without a touchscreen
The projected image would not create a conventional capacitive touchscreen. The bracelet would instead have to infer finger position from proximity or optical sensing. That introduces ambiguity around finger angle, skin reflectivity, sleeves, accidental gestures, multiple fingers and movement of the arm.
The system would also need calibration: it would have to understand where the projected interface landed and distinguish an intentional tap from the wearer simply moving their hand. The video made this interaction appear effortless, but the public record never showed it working consistently on an independently tested production unit.
Battery, heat and comfort
A projector, processor, sensors and wireless radios would consume considerably more power than a basic fitness band. A larger battery would make the bracelet thicker and heavier; a smaller battery would shorten runtime. Heat dissipation, charging frequency and comfort would all compete with the goal of making the device unobtrusive.

These obstacles do not prove that a forearm projection system is impossible. They explain why a persuasive concept video is very different from evidence of a practical consumer product.
Was there a crowdfunding campaign?
Contemporary reports described Cicret as a crowdfunding or fundraising project. One reported pledge price was approximately $400, with an anticipated retail price of roughly $600–$700. Those figures referred to proposed pricing, not a verified retail launch. Archived contemporary coverage reported the pricing claims.
The surviving record is less clear about the exact campaign structure and amount raised. Reports referred variously to Indiegogo, direct donations and PayPal fundraising, and the original campaign material is no longer readily available in a form that settles every detail. It is therefore more accurate to say that Cicret solicited crowdfunding or donations than to publish a definitive fundraising total.
Did Cicret ever ship?
There is no verified evidence that a production Cicret Bracelet shipped at scale to backers or consumers. AFP reported that the product never reached the market and found accounts from people who said they had attempted to buy it without receiving it.
That conclusion should be phrased carefully. The public evidence does not prove that no prototype ever existed under any circumstances. It does support the more useful consumer conclusion: no independently verified, commercially shipped Cicret Bracelet became available to ordinary buyers.
What happened to the company?
According to AFP’s investigation, Cicret’s websites became inaccessible or remained available only through archived material, while its social-media accounts had reportedly been inactive since around 2016. AFP also reported that the French company associated with Cicret was struck off the commercial register in August 2020.
That makes Cicret best described as defunct, inactive or no longer verifiably operating. The evidence supports a failure to deliver a verified mass-market product; it does not, by itself, establish the founders’ intent. Calling it a “scam” as an unqualified fact goes beyond what the available record proves.

How Cicret compared with Google Glass
| Cicret concept | Google Glass |
|---|---|
| Projected an interface onto the forearm | Used an optical display near the eye |
| Promised tactile interaction on the skin | Used controls such as voice input and a touchpad |
| Depended on projection, sensing and arm calibration | Depended on optical alignment and head-mounted hardware |
| Was never verified as a shipped consumer product | Was a real product line, with later emphasis shifting toward enterprise use |
“Move over Google Glass” was marketing language, not evidence that Cicret had surpassed Google technically or commercially. The two concepts addressed different problems and used fundamentally different interfaces.
Are current Cicret Bracelet listings genuine?
Assume that a current listing is unverified unless it can prove continuity with the original project and demonstrate the promised hardware. Old Cicret images and videos have been reused in misleading sales claims, according to AFP.
Before paying, look for all of the following:
- A clearly identified manufacturer and a functioning support page.
- Independent demonstrations using the exact physical unit being sold.
- Continuous, unedited footage showing projection and skin interaction in normal lighting.
- Evidence that the device contains a projector rather than a conventional watch display.
- Regulatory, safety and battery information appropriate to the buyer’s country.
- A real return address and an enforceable refund policy.
- Reviews tied to the exact hardware model, not recycled Cicret promotional images.
A generic fitness band, notification bracelet or smartwatch carrying the Cicret name is not evidence that the original projected-touch concept has returned.
What to buy instead
There is no one-for-one replacement because no verified Cicret product exists. Choose according to the problem you actually want to solve:
| If you want… | Consider… | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Hands-free assistance and notifications | Smart glasses, such as Ray-Ban Meta | They are glasses, not a projected touchscreen, and emphasize audio, cameras and assistant functions. |
| A private virtual screen | Display glasses or AR-style viewers from XREAL or Rokid | The display is near the eyes rather than on the arm, and the devices are not invisible or necessarily designed for all-day wear. |
| Notifications, health tracking and quick controls | A conventional smartwatch or fitness wearable | The display is much smaller and the device does not project across the forearm. |
| A genuinely large projected image | A portable pico-projector | It is not wearable or touch-interactive and normally needs a separate control device. |
Prices and availability vary by model, region and date, so check the manufacturer’s official store rather than relying on a listing that revives the Cicret branding.
The verdict
Cicret reached the public as a compelling interface concept and a fundraising proposition. It did not become a verified, commercially available bracelet that projected a responsive smartphone touchscreen onto the wearer’s arm.
The famous video showed what Cicret was supposed to feel like, not what ordinary customers could reliably buy. With the associated company reported struck off in 2020, inactive online accounts and no verified retail product, there is no responsible buying path for an original Cicret Bracelet today.
