Yes. A Google Pixel Watch works with most compatible Samsung Galaxy phones, including many recent Galaxy S, Z and A-series models. You do not need a Pixel phone. The important distinction is that general Google and Wear OS features work normally, while some Pixel-phone features and Samsung-specific integrations do not.
Compatibility depends on the exact Pixel Watch generation, Android version, Google Play services, country, carrier and account. Check Google’s current compatibility requirements before buying.
The short answer
A Samsung Galaxy phone can pair with a Pixel Watch through the Google Pixel Watch app. Google requires a compatible Android phone—generally Android 10 or newer, although the minimum can vary by watch generation and software version—plus Bluetooth, internet access, a Google Account and current Google apps.

Google’s setup guidance is the authority for the exact model, region and software combination. Samsung tablets, modified Android installations, devices without Google Play services and very old unsupported phones should not be assumed compatible.
What you need before pairing
- A Samsung Galaxy phone meeting the exact Pixel Watch model’s Android requirement.
- Google Play Store and Google Play services.
- The latest Google Pixel Watch app.
- A Google Account and an internet connection.
- Bluetooth and Location enabled.
- Enough storage for the watch app and updates.
- A charged watch kept close to the phone.
Install or update Google Health/Fitbit for health tracking and Google Wallet if you intend to pay from the watch. LTE models additionally need a supported carrier and activated cellular plan.
How to connect Pixel Watch to a Samsung phone
- Update the Samsung phone and install the Google Pixel Watch app, Google Play services and any health or wallet apps you need.
- Sign in to the Google Account you want associated with the watch.
- Turn on Bluetooth, Location and Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Turn on the watch by holding its crown for about three seconds.
- Keep the watch near the phone—Google’s Fast Pair troubleshooting guidance specifies approximately 0.5 metres (1.6 feet)—and open the Pixel Watch app.
- Select the watch when it appears and confirm the pairing code shown on both devices.
- Complete prompts for notifications, calls, messages, contacts, health, Wallet, Google Assistant or Gemini, safety features and LTE, if applicable.
- Install watch firmware and app updates before deciding that a feature is missing.
Google lists the complete prerequisites in its Pixel Watch setup documentation. Samsung’s battery controls can put companion apps to sleep, so exempt the Pixel Watch app from aggressive background restrictions if syncing or notifications repeatedly stop.
What works normally on a Samsung phone?

Google describes Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and LTE capabilities separately. An LTE watch can handle calls, notifications, messages and some apps without the phone nearby, but only after cellular activation.
What does not work like it does on a Pixel phone?
Some features are documented specifically as Pixel-phone features. Treat them as unavailable on a Samsung phone unless Google’s current requirements explicitly say otherwise. Examples include Pixel Watch unlocking a Pixel phone, synchronizing alarms with a Pixel phone, certain Pixel-specific call-screening or safety integrations, and some phone-side automation or AI functions.

This does not make the watch unusable. It means that “works with Android” and “has every Pixel integration” are different claims. Google’s support index lists Pixel-phone unlocking and alarm synchronization separately from ordinary Android setup.
What you lose compared with a Galaxy Watch
A Pixel Watch cannot turn a Samsung phone into a complete Galaxy Watch ecosystem. Samsung’s compatibility matrix documents Galaxy-phone features such as:

- Some Samsung alarm, Modes and phone/watch synchronization.
- Galaxy-specific Buds, SmartThings and One UI automations.
- Samsung-first gestures and other Galaxy Watch controls.
These are Samsung ecosystem limitations, not proof that every item is technically blocked by Pixel Watch. The practical result is the same: choose a Galaxy Watch if those integrations are central to how you use your phone. See Samsung’s feature and compatibility matrix for model-specific details.
Health data: Fitbit/Google Health versus Samsung Health
Pixel Watch health data is primarily managed through Fitbit and Google Health. Google’s setup guidance covers activity, exercise, sleep and related metrics in that ecosystem. A Samsung phone can run those apps, but the watch should not be treated as a native Samsung Health accessory.
Samsung Health on the phone can continue collecting data from the phone and other compatible devices. Do not assume that Pixel Watch measurements will automatically appear in one complete Samsung Health dashboard. Cross-platform transfers, where available, can depend on app versions, permissions and third-party services.

Heart-rate, ECG and irregular-rhythm tools are screening features, not diagnoses. Availability depends on country, age, regulatory approval, account and sometimes accessory requirements. Google explains the limitations in its health-feature guidance.
Wallet, calls, texts and LTE details
Google Wallet
Google Wallet is not Pixel-phone-only. It can work on a Pixel Watch paired to a Samsung phone where the watch, country, bank, card network and NFC payment support are eligible. A screen lock may be required. Samsung Wallet cards do not automatically transfer to Google Wallet; they are separate platforms.
Bluetooth/Wi-Fi models
The phone normally needs to be nearby for Bluetooth functions, or the watch needs a suitable Wi-Fi connection. The phone must be online for many text-message synchronization tasks. Calls depend on the completed Bluetooth/Wi-Fi setup.
LTE models
An LTE Pixel Watch can make calls, send messages, receive notifications and use selected apps away from the phone. It requires an eligible carrier, an activated plan and a compatible phone-and-watch arrangement. Google notes that the same carrier is generally required for the phone and watch service, while number sharing, roaming, emergency calling and standalone behavior vary by carrier and country. LTE adds independence; it does not remove every phone, account or app dependency.
Galaxy Buds and camera control
The watch can connect to compatible Bluetooth headphones, including Galaxy Buds, but Buds-specific controls are model- and app-dependent. Do not assume the identical integration available with a Galaxy Watch.

Likewise, do not promise Samsung’s native Camera Controller. Samsung documents that feature for compatible Galaxy Watch and Samsung-phone combinations; a Pixel Watch paired to a Galaxy phone should not be expected to reproduce it.

The watch does not appear
- Turn on Bluetooth, Location and Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Update the phone, Google Play services and Pixel Watch app.
- Keep the devices within roughly 1.6 feet during Fast Pair.
- Restart both devices and open the Pixel Watch app manually.
- Remove an old Bluetooth pairing if the watch was connected to another phone.

The watch was paired to another phone
A transfer may be available for supported upgrades. Otherwise, a factory reset may be required; it erases apps, settings and watch data. Confirm that a used watch is no longer associated with its previous owner.
Calls work but texts do not
Check that the phone is online, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE is connected, SMS permissions are enabled, the correct messaging app and Google Account are configured, and notification-suppression modes are off. Google specifically notes the connected phone’s online requirement for text synchronization.

Confirm that the watch is an LTE model, the exact model is supported by the carrier and country, the plan is active in the Pixel Watch app, and number sharing or roaming is included under the carrier’s terms.

Health data or payments are missing
Verify the intended Google/Fitbit account, permissions and first sync. For Wallet, verify country, bank, card, NFC and screen-lock support. Do not substitute Samsung Health or Samsung Wallet assumptions for Google’s requirements.
Pixel Watch or Galaxy Watch?
Choose Pixel Watch when you want:
- Fitbit or Google Health as your primary health platform.
- Google Maps, Google Home, Assistant or Gemini and Google Wallet.
- Google’s Wear OS experience without requiring a Pixel phone.
- A watch that complements Google services even though your phone is Samsung.
Choose Galaxy Watch when you want:
- The deepest possible Galaxy-phone integration.
- Samsung Health and Samsung Health Monitor features.
- Camera Controller, Reminders, Modes and Galaxy-specific synchronization.
- Samsung-first Buds, SmartThings and One UI behavior.
- One Samsung ecosystem instead of maintaining both Samsung Health and Fitbit/Google Health.
For connectivity, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth is the simpler and cheaper choice if you usually carry your phone. LTE is worth considering for phone-free runs, errands or emergency access, but add the carrier plan, activation requirements and ongoing cost to the decision.
Final recommendation
Buy a Pixel Watch for a Samsung phone if you specifically prefer Google and Fitbit features and accept that a few Pixel-only conveniences will be absent. Buy a Galaxy Watch if Samsung Health, Samsung Wallet, Camera Controller, reminders, modes or Galaxy-specific health functions matter more than Google’s software experience.
