Yes—DJI Neo 2 can be controlled through a compatible Apple Watch. But the watch is a companion interface, not a standalone drone controller: an iPhone must stay connected to the aircraft, with DJI Fly running. DJI’s current listing identifies Apple Watch Series 8 and newer; it does not establish support for Wear OS, Garmin, or Samsung watches.
What the watch feature does
DJI added Remote Control with Watch to the Neo 2 in firmware V01.00.0500, released December 10, 2025. The initial release supported Apple Watch only, according to DJI’s firmware notes.

A later DJI Fly update added watch access to real-time video transmission, aircraft battery level, and voice control for flight tasks. DJI’s DJI Fly App Store listing names Neo 2, DJI Flip, and DJI Neo among supported aircraft, and lists Apple Watch Series 8 and newer. That confirms a useful set of watch features, but not that the watch reproduces every setting or manual control available in the phone app.

The iPhone is still part of the control chain
The connection works in two links: the Neo 2 connects to the iPhone over Wi-Fi, and the Apple Watch communicates with the phone over Bluetooth. The phone relays commands to the aircraft. DJI’s Neo 2 manual requires DJI Fly on both devices, the phone connected to the aircraft, and the app left running on the phone. You may turn off the phone screen, but you cannot close the app or leave the phone behind and expect the watch to keep controlling the drone.
That distinction also means there is no single “watch range” to rely on: the watch-to-phone Bluetooth link and phone-to-aircraft Wi-Fi link are separate. DJI’s store notes that live view may be unavailable in countries or regions where the 5.8 GHz band is prohibited, citing Japan as an example. Check DJI’s regional product information and local rules before relying on the feature where you fly.

Use Series 8 and newer as the conservative compatibility guidance, not as a promise that every Apple Watch configuration or software version will work. DJI’s release notes point users to the Neo 2 FAQ for compatibility details; check DJI’s current FAQ and the App Store listing before buying a watch specifically for this feature. The sources cited here do not establish a complete model-by-model list or minimum operating-system versions.
How to set it up
- Update the Neo 2 firmware and DJI Fly on the iPhone. Install DJI Fly on the Apple Watch as well.
- Connect the Neo 2 to the iPhone in DJI Fly over Wi-Fi.
- Open DJI Fly on the Apple Watch and start the watch control interface.
- Keep DJI Fly running on the iPhone and keep the phone within Bluetooth range of the watch. The phone screen can be off; the app cannot be closed.
- Confirm the expected status and controls appear on the watch before relying on them in a flight. DJI identifies live video transmission, aircraft battery level, and voice control for flight tasks in its app listing.
If the watch cannot reach the aircraft, first check that firmware and both app installations are current. Restart the aircraft, iPhone, and watch; ensure the phone’s Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and location services are enabled; and disconnect another nearby phone that may already be connected to the drone. Then reconnect through DJI Fly’s Connection Guide, reopen the watch app, and keep the phone close with DJI Fly running. DJI’s Neo-series Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance also recommends forgetting the aircraft’s Wi-Fi network when needed.

Is it useful for cycling or outdoor filming?
DJI describes watch control as useful in sports situations such as cycling. Its practical advantage is convenience: you can keep the phone screen off and check supported information or access flight tasks from your wrist. It does not remove the need to carry the phone, and a small watch display is not equivalent to a phone screen for framing or configuring a shot.
Plan the shot and establish a safe operating position before moving. Do not treat wrist access as permission to fly while distracted; maintain awareness of the aircraft and follow the drone rules that apply where you are. Watch control is best understood as an accessory to a prepared workflow, not as a way to make active piloting hands-free.

Watch, phone, or physical controller?

DJI’s mobile-app-control documentation lists a 30-meter altitude and 50-meter distance limit for Neo-series app control, and says return-to-home is not supported in that mode. The cited guidance does not establish that those exact limits apply unchanged to every Apple Watch-assisted Neo 2 operation, so check the current Neo 2 manual and applicable local rules rather than treating the watch link as extending range or changing flight limits.
Should you buy an Apple Watch for Neo 2?
If you already own a compatible Apple Watch and iPhone, the feature may be a useful convenience at no extra hardware cost. If you would need to buy a watch solely to control the drone, remember that you still need the iPhone and the watch does not provide the tactile, full-size controls of a physical remote. For precise manual flying, prioritize a compatible DJI controller; for framing and setup, use the phone. Verify current model compatibility and regional availability before making a purchase.
