FORM announced on October 29, 2024, that its Smart Swim 2 augmented-reality goggles would be sold at 20 select Apple Store locations in the United States and Canada starting November 5, with online ordering through Apple in the U.S., Canada and U.K. The historical launch put live swim metrics in a display within the swimmer’s field of view; it was not a new 2026 announcement.
What Smart Swim 2 does
Smart Swim 2 is a pair of swimming goggles with motion sensors and a small heads-up display in one lens. It tracks a swim and shows selected metrics without requiring the swimmer to stop and check a phone or turn a wrist toward their face. A companion FORM app stores activity and provides access to optional coaching and training features.
Launch-era independent testing described nine basic metrics: distance, time, heart rate, stroke rate, pace, split times, stroke count, distance per stroke and calories. FORM’s current product documentation describes eight standard real-time metrics, treating heart rate separately for models that include its sensor; wording and model options have changed since launch.

- Integrated heart-rate sensor: The standard Smart Swim 2 measures heart rate at the temple through the strap area, so a separate heart-rate accessory is not needed.
- SwimStraight compass: A digital compass adds directional guidance, mainly for open-water swimming where it can help a swimmer notice gradual drift. It is not full GPS navigation.
- Smaller electronics module: FORM said the module was about 15% smaller than the previous generation.
- Fit updates: Redesigned eye seals and five interchangeable nose bridges are intended to accommodate different face shapes, though no set of bridges guarantees a secure, leak-free fit for everyone.
FORM also offers guided workouts, training plans, technique feedback and post-swim analysis through its app and Premium service. Its Script feature can turn a written workout into a digital one by scanning or pasting the text, then syncing it to the goggles.

Apple availability and launch price
The Apple retail news followed Smart Swim 2’s April 2024 product announcement. FORM said the goggles would be available from November 5, 2024, at 20 select Apple Store locations in the U.S. and Canada, and through Apple’s online stores in the U.S., Canada and U.K. That announcement did not mean every Apple Store carried the product, or that store stock would remain available indefinitely. FORM’s Apple launch announcement listed launch pricing of $249 in the U.S. and £229 in the U.K.
What requires FORM Premium?
The goggles’ core tracking works without a continuing Premium subscription. Premium is optional, but FORM ties its deeper coaching and structured-training tools to the service. At the Apple launch, FORM included a one-month Premium trial and announced post-trial prices of $15 per month or $99 per year in the U.S., and £13 per month or £84 per year in the U.K. Those are historical launch terms, not a guarantee of today’s subscription price.

Launch materials listed thousands of workouts, 45 training plans, HeadCoach technique analysis, TrainingPeaks and TriDot imports, and SwimStraight access among Premium features. Current product pages also list guided workouts, Workout Builder and Script. Payment details are required to start the free trial, so check the renewal and cancellation terms before activating it. FORM’s current product documentation says Premium is optional.

FORM-reported testing cited in launch coverage put average heart-rate deviation at approximately ±4 beats per minute compared with chest straps and ±10 beats per minute compared with wrist-based monitors. Those are company-reported figures, not independent laboratory validation. In its review, Tom’s Guide found that the heart-rate reading could take several lengths to appear and could intermittently disappear during a swim, while an Apple Watch provided a steadier reading in that test. Treat the sensor as a convenient training aid, not a medical monitor or a guaranteed substitute for a chest strap.

Tom’s Guide also found the display useful, the basic tracking strong and the goggles comfortable in testing, while noting intermittent heart-rate readings and a proprietary USB-A charging cable. Hair, strap position, water movement or goggles shifting may affect sensor contact, but the available testing does not establish one cause for inconsistent readings.
Battery figures depend on which generation or listing is being discussed. Tom’s Guide reported up to 12 hours for the launch-era model; FORM’s current product page lists up to 14 hours for the current Smart Swim 2 family. Do not assume every model carrying the Smart Swim 2 name has identical battery hardware. The current FORM lineup also includes LT and PRO variants, so check the specific model’s specifications.

For an existing smartwatch owner, conventional goggles plus the watch are the simpler, more versatile choice unless the in-goggle display or FORM’s swim-specific coaching solves a real training problem. For someone who only wants lap counts, ordinary goggles and a watch—or a pool’s existing timing tools—may be enough.

Race use and prescription fit
FORM said its goggles and features were approved by World Triathlon, USA Triathlon, British Triathlon and the Professional Triathlon Organisation; its current product page also lists supertri. That is not a blanket guarantee for every event or rule set. Check the current rules for your specific race, including whether an active display is permitted.

FORM says the display remains visible for prescriptions up to approximately -3; stronger prescriptions may make it difficult to read. If you rely on prescription lenses, test the seal and display legibility while you can still use the applicable return policy. The electronics add bulk and weight compared with ordinary goggles, and a better nose-bridge selection cannot guarantee a suitable seal for every face.
Current buying context
FORM’s U.S. storefront showed three tiers when checked on August 18, 2026: Smart Swim 2 LT at $149 list / $109 sale, Smart Swim 2 at $199 list / $149 sale, and Smart Swim 2 PRO at $259 list / $189 sale. These were prices displayed during a sale, not necessarily permanent prices. The LT omits integrated heart-rate monitoring; the PRO adds Corning Gorilla Glass lenses, enhanced durability and long-term fog-prevention features while retaining the standard feature set. Check FORM or Apple directly for current inventory, final pricing and store pickup before making a trip.
That current lineup also changes the value calculation from the 2024 Apple launch price. Compare the exact model and included hardware rather than treating all Smart Swim 2-branded goggles as equivalent. Factor in Premium only if you want its coaching and structured workouts, and remember that FORM’s open-water GPS distance and pace may still depend on a compatible watch.

Smart Swim 2 makes the strongest case for frequent lap swimmers, triathletes and open-water swimmers who train toward measurable goals and genuinely want information in their field of view. SwimStraight is most relevant away from pool lanes; the display and detailed swim metrics can be useful in either setting.
It is a weaker fit for casual swimmers who only need to count lengths, budget-conscious buyers, people satisfied with an existing Apple Watch or Garmin, or anyone who expects uninterrupted heart-rate readings. If the display cannot be read comfortably, the seal does not fit, or the subscription features do not justify their cost, conventional goggles remain the simpler purchase.
