If your Galaxy Watch repeatedly shows promotional animations, will not complete setup, or displays a Samsung Retail Mode app, it is probably configured as a store-display unit rather than a normal consumer watch. A force restart and an official factory reset are the only sensible first steps. However, a reset is not guaranteed to remove retailer management.
If the watch was sold as new, contact the seller about an exchange or refund before erasing it. If Demo Mode returns after a reset, stop trying random PINs or firmware tools and ask the retailer or Samsung to decommission or service the watch.
First, confirm that it is really Demo Mode
Demo or retail mode is intended to make a watch suitable for display in a store. Typical signs include:

- Repeating promotional animations or watch-face demonstrations.
- The same demo screen returning after every restart.
- Settings or account setup being restricted.
- Normal pairing with Galaxy Wearable failing or being blocked.
- A Samsung Retail Mode application appearing in the app list.
Samsung retail-management documentation describes devices supplied with Samsung Retail Mode preinstalled. That does not prove the watch is stolen: it may be an ex-display unit, incorrectly configured inventory, or a used watch that was never decommissioned.

Do not confuse Demo Mode with these other problems:

Samsung has separate guidance for boot loops, frozen watches, and button or reset problems.
Before you reset: check whether the watch was sold correctly
The purchase history changes the correct solution.
If it was sold as new
Take photos or video of the demo screen, save the listing and invoice, and record the model and serial number. Ask for a replacement or refund before performing a destructive reset. A watch sold as a normal retail product should not require you to remove store provisioning yourself.
If it was sold as used, open-box, or ex-display
Ask the seller to confirm that Samsung Retail Mode and any retailer-management enrollment were removed. You can try the troubleshooting steps below, but the seller may need to provide an authorized decommissioning service or accept a return.
Before any reset
- Back up the watch through Galaxy Wearable if it is still accessible.
- Charge it sufficiently and use the model-appropriate charging dock.
- Understand that a factory reset erases watch data.
- If the watch is yours, note the Samsung and Google accounts used during setup.
Samsung recommends backing up before resetting. Its Wear OS Galaxy Watch documentation covers the Watch4, Watch5, Watch6, and Watch7 families, while setup requirements vary by model.
Fix 1: Force-restart the watch
A force restart is non-destructive and is the best first step when the demo application is merely frozen.

- Press and hold the Home/Power key and Back key together.
- Keep holding until “Rebooting…” appears.
- Release both keys and let the watch restart.
Samsung notes that controls can vary by watch and software version. A restart can clear a temporary frozen screen, but it normally will not remove persistent retail provisioning. If the same promotional screen returns, continue with the appropriate reset option or contact the seller.

Fix 2: Reset through Galaxy Wearable
Use this method only if the watch is already paired or remains reachable from the connected Android phone.
- Open Galaxy Wearable.
- Tap Watch settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Confirm the reset.
The wording may differ slightly by model or app version. This reset deletes watch data and returns the watch to factory-default settings. It will not work if Demo Mode prevents pairing, Bluetooth is unavailable, the watch is offline, or retailer management blocks the operation.
If the watch still appears in your phone’s Bluetooth devices, unpair it before setting it up again. Samsung’s official reset methods are documented here.

Samsung directly documents the following Wear OS recovery route for the Watch4, Watch5, and Watch6 families. It is timing-sensitive: if you wait too long after releasing the button, the watch may boot normally.

- Unpair the watch from the phone first, if it still appears in Galaxy Wearable or Bluetooth.
- Power off the watch if possible, then power it on.
- During startup, press and hold the Home/Power key until “Rebooting…” appears.
- Release the Home/Power key.
- Immediately press and release the Home/Power key repeatedly to open the Reboot mode menu.
- Continue pressing the Home/Power key until Recovery is highlighted.
- Press and hold the Home/Power key to select Recovery. Release it when the display changes or goes dark.
- Use the Back key or the on-screen swipe control to select Wipe data/factory reset.
- Select Factory data reset and confirm.
- When the reset completes, choose the reboot option.
If the watch only restarts, repeat the process. The common failure is missing the Reboot Mode menu because the Home/Power key was not pressed immediately after “Rebooting…” appeared.
Samsung’s official reset instructions list the recovery labels above. The Watch7 is also a Wear OS watch, but Samsung’s indexed recovery instructions specifically call out Watch4 through Watch6. Watch7 menu labels, timing, and controls can vary with firmware, so do not assume every Watch7 displays precisely the same screen. If the documented menu does not appear, use Samsung’s model-specific support channel instead of trying random button combinations.
Fix 4: Erase the watch with SmartThings Find
Remote erasure is useful only when the watch belongs to your Samsung account, appears in SmartThings Find, and can communicate with Samsung’s service.
- Open SmartThings Find in a browser.
- Sign in to the Samsung account linked to the watch.
- Select the watch.
- Choose Erase data.
- Confirm and enter the Samsung account password.
This will not help if the watch was never linked to your account, cannot connect to a network, or is controlled by a retailer. Samsung’s remote-reset guidance is available here.
Set the watch up after the reset
A successful reset should end at the normal Welcome or setup screen. Then:
- Install or update Galaxy Wearable on a compatible Android phone.
- Pair the watch as a new device.
- Sign in to the required Samsung and Google accounts.
- Install available watch software updates.
- Restore a backup if one exists.
- Restart the watch once more and confirm that demo content does not return.
Watch4 and Watch5 models require a compatible phone for setup and cannot be configured as standalone watches. LTE Watch6 models have additional standalone capabilities, but ordinary Bluetooth setup still uses Galaxy Wearable. For an LTE watch activated with a carrier QR code, a factory reset may require a new QR code. Contact the carrier rather than assuming the old activation will return automatically.

If Demo Mode survives the reset
A watch that resets successfully but immediately returns to Demo Mode is unlikely to have an ordinary user-setting problem. Possible explanations include continuing retail-management enrollment, a display-unit configuration, incomplete reset, corrupted firmware, storage failure, or another hardware defect.

- Stop trying unverified administrator PINs or “master codes.”
- Contact the original seller and ask specifically whether the watch remains enrolled in Samsung Retail Mode or another retail-management system.
- Provide the listing, proof of purchase, model number, serial number, and photos of the demo screen.
- Contact Samsung Support if the seller cannot resolve it.
Samsung’s public consumer pages explain how to reset a Wear OS watch, but they do not publish a universal Galaxy Watch retail-mode PIN or a guaranteed consumer procedure for removing retailer provisioning. A seller or Samsung may need to determine whether the device can be decommissioned or serviced.
What not to do
- Do not use Samsung TV demo-mode instructions. They apply to different products.
- Do not guess PINs. A code reported for a phone, television, or retailer tool is not a verified Galaxy Watch solution.
- Do not flash random firmware. Incorrect files can brick the watch, worsen a managed-device problem, or affect warranty coverage.
- Do not repeatedly reset a watch that was sold as new. Preserve evidence and use the return or exchange process.
- Do not call Odin Mode Demo Mode. Persistent Odin or Download Mode may indicate failed firmware or a deeper fault.
Odin Mode, boot loops, and frozen screens
If the display says Odin or Download, treat it as a firmware or boot-state issue. Samsung community reports describe Watch4 units repeatedly returning to Odin Mode after update problems. Do not use phone-specific Odin instructions or download firmware from an unverified source. Try Samsung’s documented recovery process only if the controls respond; escalate to Samsung service if the watch repeatedly returns to Odin Mode.
If the watch stays on the Samsung logo, follow Samsung’s boot-loop troubleshooting. If buttons or the screen do not respond, check that the watch is charging correctly with approved equipment and seek service if the problem continues.
How to tell whether you fixed it
The repair is successful only when all three conditions are met:
- The watch reaches the normal Welcome/setup screen.
- It pairs through Galaxy Wearable and accepts ordinary account setup.
- Demo content does not return after a restart.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a factory reset remove Galaxy Watch Demo Mode?
It may clear an ordinary software state, but Samsung does not guarantee that a reset removes retailer provisioning. If Demo Mode returns, contact the seller or Samsung.

What if the watch asks for an administrator or retailer code?
Do not guess codes. The legitimate route is the original retailer or Samsung Support, which can determine whether the watch is still managed.
Does Demo Mode mean the Galaxy Watch is stolen?
No. It may be an ex-display unit, incorrectly configured inventory, or a used watch that was not decommissioned. Resolve ownership and configuration questions with the seller.
Can I set up a Galaxy Watch4 or Watch5 without a phone?
No. Samsung says Watch4 and Watch5 require a compatible phone for setup and are not standalone watches.
Is Watch7 recovery exactly the same as Watch6 recovery?
Not necessarily. Watch7 uses Wear OS, but exact recovery labels and controls can vary by firmware. Use Samsung’s model-specific support if the documented menu does not appear.
Will resetting an LTE watch cancel its service?
A reset can require a new carrier QR code for LTE activation. Contact the carrier before assuming service will restore automatically.
