The Galaxy Watch Ultra cannot charge from a Galaxy phone using Wireless PowerShare. It can still charge wirelessly on a compatible watch puck, though, so the change does not mean wireless charging is gone. Samsung’s official fast-charging option is the EP-OL300 puck; whether you need to buy one depends on whether you already have a compatible charger.
What changed—and what did not
Wireless PowerShare is the feature that lets a compatible Galaxy phone send power to another device placed on its back. Samsung lists the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch8 series as incompatible with that feature. The Ultra still supports charging on a dedicated compatible watch charger.
That distinction matters: a phone’s reverse wireless charging, a watch charging puck and a multi-device charging stand are three different things. A pad that can charge a phone or earbuds is not automatically able to charge the Ultra; it needs a watch-charging module that specifically supports the watch.

Why the Ultra will not charge from your phone
Samsung attributes the incompatibility to the redesigned rear sensor arrangement introduced with the Watch7 generation, including the original Galaxy Watch Ultra. The redesign increases the distance between the watch’s charging coil and the charging surface, making the arrangement unsuitable for phone-to-watch PowerShare. This is a hardware limitation, not a setting to enable or a positioning problem.

That means repeatedly moving the watch around on the phone, removing its band, resetting it or waiting for a software update will not restore PowerShare. If you need to top up the Ultra, use a compatible watch puck or an accessory whose manufacturer explicitly says its dedicated watch module supports the Ultra.
The limitation is not universal to every Galaxy Watch. Samsung’s compatibility information lists earlier generations such as the Watch6 and Watch5 among models that can use PowerShare under the relevant conditions. If you are upgrading from an older watch, check the exact model rather than assuming the whole Galaxy Watch line has lost the feature.

Do you need to buy a new charger?
Not necessarily—but do not assume an older puck is equivalent just because it attaches magnetically. Samsung says older wireless chargers may charge the Watch Ultra or Watch7 slowly. Compatibility and performance depend on the particular charger. Samsung recommends using a dock that matches the watch; its designated fast-charging puck for the Ultra is the EP-OL300.
Samsung’s U.S. listing showed the EP-OL300 at $39.99 when checked in August 2026. The puck listing says the adapter is sold separately. For fast charging, Samsung specifies a 10W-or-higher power adapter. The manufacturer says the puck can charge the Ultra up to 35% in 30 minutes; actual results can vary with conditions, including the adapter and watch use while charging.

If you already own a charger, check its model and the manufacturer’s stated compatibility with the Watch7 or Ultra. Keep using it only if it charges reliably and you are comfortable with its speed. If replacing a lost or damaged puck, or if you want Samsung’s stated fast-charging performance, the EP-OL300 is the least ambiguous choice. A multi-device stand can also work if it has a dedicated watch module explicitly specified for the Ultra; generic Qi support alone is not enough.
If the Ultra will not charge on its puck
- Use the puck supplied with the watch or a charger explicitly compatible with the Ultra, such as Samsung’s EP-OL300.
- Connect the puck to a suitable power source. Use a 10W-or-higher adapter if you want fast charging.
- Center the watch on the puck and check for the charging animation.
- Check the watch back and puck for dirt or debris. If either is wet, let both dry fully before charging.
- If there is no response, try another compatible adapter or cable, if available.
- If the watch remains unresponsive, contact Samsung support—especially if it is under warranty—rather than buying several unverified replacement pucks.
If you were trying to charge from a Galaxy phone, stop troubleshooting placement: the Ultra is not supported by Wireless PowerShare. Samsung’s charging guidance and PowerShare compatibility information identify the limitation and recommend a compatible dedicated charger.

Who should care before buying?
The missing feature is most inconvenient if you travel light, rely on a Galaxy phone as an emergency power source, or are moving from a PowerShare-compatible older Galaxy Watch. It also matters if you want one shared charging surface and already own a multi-device accessory: verify that its watch module supports the Ultra before relying on it.

For people who charge overnight at home and keep the supplied puck handy, the impact may be minor. The Ultra remains chargeable; the trade-off is that you cannot use your phone as its backup charger, so you may need to carry a separate puck.

Is this a design flaw?
It is a real convenience loss, particularly for travelers and owners accustomed to PowerShare. Samsung’s stated explanation is the rear-sensor redesign and resulting coil distance. The available explanation does not establish that the change was made to sell accessories, nor does it identify a safety or battery-capacity rationale. The practical choice is to accept the separate-puck requirement or, if phone-based emergency charging is essential, consider a different watch model rather than expecting the Ultra to gain PowerShare through an update.
