If your Galaxy Watch4 LTE shows error 4001 or 5000 while you add a mobile plan, the code alone does not mean the watch’s LTE hardware is broken. Samsung’s public support guidance does not define either code as a standard diagnostic; the failure is more likely somewhere in the Galaxy Wearable, eSIM, carrier-account, or provisioning process. Start by confirming that the watch is an LTE model and that your carrier accepts its exact model and identifiers. Update and restart, then retry activation. Avoid factory-resetting repeatedly: a reset can remove the mobile profile and may require a new carrier QR code.

Quick fix checklist

  1. Confirm the watch is the LTE version and find its IMEI and EID.
  2. Ask the carrier to verify that the exact watch model and IMEI/EID are eligible for its smartwatch plan and correctly associated with your account.
  3. Restart and update the phone, watch, Galaxy Wearable app, and Watch4 plugin; retry on a reliable internet connection with an active SIM in the phone.
  4. In Galaxy Wearable, open Watch settings > Mobile plans (or Home > Mobile plans) and follow the carrier’s activation steps.
  5. If you use a non-Samsung Android phone, consider the Samsung-phone workaround below—but treat it as a reported workaround, not a guaranteed fix.
  6. Before resetting the watch or its mobile network, ask the carrier whether you will need a fresh watch eSIM QR code.

If activation still fails, give the carrier the error code and the watch’s identifiers and ask it to check provisioning. A factory reset cannot correct an unsupported model or a carrier database error.

What do errors 4001 and 5000 mean?

Samsung’s public LTE activation guidance and mobile-network troubleshooting do not publish a code table defining 4001 or 5000. Reports from users across carriers and countries associate these codes with failures in mobile-plan activation or provisioning, but that is an observed pattern, not an official Samsung definition.

In particular, 5000 is often reported when an activation transaction fails or is rejected, while 4001 is often associated with an app, carrier, or eligibility/provisioning problem. Those descriptions are not confirmed code meanings. Seeing one error on a 4G connection and another on 5G does not prove that the phone’s radio generation caused the problem. The transaction involves the watch, Galaxy Wearable, the carrier’s eligibility and eSIM systems, and potentially Samsung’s activation service; the code by itself cannot identify which part failed.

The errors have been reported with different carriers and in different markets, including in SFR community reports and Samsung Community reports. That makes an activation-workflow problem more plausible than a simple 4G-versus-5G hardware fault, but it does not rule out a device-specific issue.

Before troubleshooting: confirm the watch and plan are eligible

1. Check that the watch is LTE

A Bluetooth-only Galaxy Watch4 cannot add a cellular plan. On the watch, open Settings > About watch > Device. You can also check the watch’s About section in Galaxy Wearable. An LTE model should have an IMEI; depending on the model and activation state, EID or ICCID may also appear. If an LTE model has no IMEI or its identifiers look missing or malformed, contact Samsung before repeatedly resetting it.

2. Ask the carrier to validate the exact watch

Carrier and plan compatibility varies by country, carrier, and regional model. Before retrying activation, ask the carrier to confirm that:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • It supports Galaxy Watch4 LTE in your country and accepts your watch’s exact model or regional variant.
  • Your account qualifies for its smartwatch, number-sharing, or standalone-watch plan, as applicable.
  • The watch’s IMEI and EID are correctly entered and associated with your account.
  • The watch is not still attached to a prior account or mobile plan, blocked, or otherwise ineligible.
  • The phone plan meets any number-sharing requirements, and standalone calls or data are supported if you expect the watch to work without the phone nearby.

A phone’s general-purpose eSIM plan is not automatically a compatible smartwatch plan. Likewise, successfully pairing the watch with a phone does not prove that the carrier permits LTE activation through that phone.

Samsung’s US activation page lists AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon as examples of supported US carriers, but that is not a universal list or a promise that every plan, model, or market is eligible. Check with your local carrier. Samsung’s compatibility guidance also cautions that activation on non-Samsung phones can be carrier-limited or unsupported; see Samsung’s phone compatibility guidance.

Fix 1: Restart and update the phone, watch, and apps

  1. Restart the phone, then restart the watch.
  2. Update Galaxy Wearable and the Galaxy Watch4 Manager/plugin through the phone’s app store. Update Samsung Members if you have it installed.
  3. Check for phone software and watch software updates.
  4. Turn on Bluetooth and connect the phone to a reliable Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection. Keep an active SIM in the phone during activation.
  5. Reopen Galaxy Wearable and retry Mobile plans.

Samsung recommends restarting and checking for updates, including updates to Galaxy Wearable and device plugins; see its software-update troubleshooting guidance. Some community posts blame particular app versions, but installing an old APK is not an official or generally safe fix. It can introduce security and compatibility risks and may not use the same carrier activation flow.

Fix 2: Use the official mobile-plan activation path

  1. Pair the LTE watch through Galaxy Wearable.
  2. Open Galaxy Wearable > Watch settings > Mobile plans. On some app layouts, the route is Home > Mobile plans.
  3. Let the app search for an eligible network and complete the carrier’s activation flow.
  4. If your carrier requires QR activation, get its current QR code specifically for the watch and follow the carrier’s instructions.

Samsung’s US guidance specifies an Android phone running Android 5.0 or later with at least 1.5 GB of RAM for its activation route, as well as an active SIM in the phone and a network connection. Requirements and supported devices can vary by market and carrier, so confirm local requirements rather than treating those US specifications as universal.

Do not keep reusing an old QR code

A watch eSIM QR code may be single-use or tied to a particular activation attempt. Samsung warns that resetting the watch or its mobile network may mean you need a new carrier QR code or profile. Before a reset, ask the carrier whether your code remains valid. If it does not, request a watch eSIM activation profile for the exact watch IMEI/EID—not a generic phone eSIM QR code—and avoid repeated scans of an old code.

Fix 3: Check mobile-network settings after activation

These checks are most useful if the plan appears to have activated but LTE calls or data do not work. They usually will not resolve an activation transaction rejected by the carrier.

  1. On the watch, open Settings > Connections > Mobile networks.
  2. Check that Mobile data is on.
  3. Set the data connection to Auto switch or Always on, as appropriate for your needs and plan.
  4. Use data roaming only when appropriate and after checking possible charges.
  5. Change APN, network mode, network operator, or roaming-network settings only when your carrier provides the correct settings or instructions.

Samsung lists these settings among its checks for LTE calls, texts, and data. For a useful test, turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the watch, then try a call or mobile data in a known coverage area. If service works only while Bluetooth is connected, confirm that the watch plan itself is active and that your carrier’s number-sharing feature is configured.

Fix 4: Try first activation on a Samsung Galaxy phone

Some users have reported getting past the activation error by activating the watch on a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone before transferring it to a non-Samsung Android phone. This is a community-reported workaround, not a Samsung guarantee or a universal fix. It can help isolate a phone-compatibility or carrier-integration issue, but it will not fix an unsupported watch, an ineligible account, incorrect IMEI/EID data, or a carrier-side provisioning failure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Use a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone with an active SIM and a reliable internet connection. Install Galaxy Wearable and the required Watch4 plugin.
  2. Sign in to the relevant Samsung and carrier accounts, then pair the Watch4 LTE with that phone.
  3. In Galaxy Wearable, open Watch settings > Mobile plans (or Home > Mobile plans) and complete the carrier activation flow.
  4. Before transferring the watch, turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the watch and verify that it gets cellular signal and can complete a test call or use mobile data, if your plan includes those services.
  5. Back up the watch through Galaxy Wearable. Then follow the transfer or reset workflow needed to pair it with your intended phone.
  6. Pair with the intended non-Samsung phone. Restore the backup when appropriate, following carrier instructions if they require a particular sequence.

Reports describe success with this approach, including secondary troubleshooting coverage and community discussion. Other reports show that changing phones does not overcome a carrier-side failure. If you reset or transfer the watch, be ready to ask the carrier for a new watch eSIM profile.

Fix 5: Clear Galaxy Wearable app state

If the carrier confirms the account and watch are eligible—or if activation worked before but has become stuck—try clearing the app state before wiping the watch. This is a general Android app-recovery step, not a Samsung-confirmed fix for error 4001 or 5000.

  1. Back up the watch in Galaxy Wearable.
  2. In the phone’s Android settings, force-stop Galaxy Wearable and clear its cache.
  3. If needed, clear app data for Galaxy Wearable and the Galaxy Watch4 Manager/plugin. You may also need to clear a relevant carrier app’s data if the carrier advises it.
  4. Restart the phone, pair the watch again, and retry Mobile plans.

Menu names differ by Android version and phone maker. Clearing app data can remove pairing and setup state, so do not do it without the backup and carrier QR-code caveats above.

Fix 6: Ask the carrier to re-provision the watch

If Galaxy Wearable still returns 4001 or 5000, the carrier is the right first escalation for account eligibility, device registration, eSIM, and plan provisioning. Contact the carrier before repeatedly resetting the watch. Have these details ready:

  • IMEI and EID; ICCID if available
  • Carrier account and watch-plan details
  • The exact error code, when it appeared, and the step that triggered it
  • Phone model and Android version, plus Galaxy Wearable/plugin versions if available
  • Whether the watch was reset, repaired, replaced, previously activated, or used on another account

Ask the carrier to check watch eligibility, number-sharing or watch-plan requirements, the IMEI/EID association, any existing eSIM profile, and the provisioning status. If the current profile cannot be reused, ask for a fresh watch-specific QR code or eSIM profile tied to the correct identifiers. Samsung likewise recommends carrier checks for activation, eligibility, coverage, and APN-related issues.

If the plan activates but the watch has no LTE service

That is a different problem from an error during plan setup. Confirm the plan is active on the watch, turn on mobile data, and test in an area with known carrier coverage after disconnecting Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Check that the plan supports the calls, data, or standalone use you expect. If the carrier supplies APN or roaming settings, follow its instructions; otherwise do not guess at values. If the watch shows an installed plan but cannot connect, ask the carrier to verify provisioning and coverage.

When to contact Samsung about possible watch trouble

Error 4001 or 5000 by itself is not evidence that the LTE radio is defective. Contact Samsung if an LTE model is missing its IMEI/EID, has no Mobile networks menu, or shows persistent radio symptoms. Samsung support is also appropriate if the watch repeatedly fails on multiple compatible phones after the carrier confirms the device, account, and eSIM activation are correct. If the watch was imported, have Samsung or the carrier verify the regional model and network-band compatibility.

For carrier issues—such as an IMEI/EID the carrier cannot find, an unsupported model, an activation page error, or calls/data failing despite a downloaded profile—start with the carrier. If a repair or mainboard replacement changed the watch’s identifiers, ensure the carrier has the current IMEI/EID.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a 5G phone cause Galaxy Watch4 LTE error 5000?

Not on the available evidence. The codes are not publicly defined by Samsung, and a 4G-versus-5G connection does not establish the cause. The failure is associated with the plan-activation workflow, so check phone/app connectivity, watch compatibility, and carrier provisioning.

Can I activate Galaxy Watch4 LTE with a non-Samsung phone?

It depends on the phone, carrier, market, and plan. Pairing support does not guarantee LTE activation support. Samsung warns that activation on non-Samsung phones can be limited or unsupported; check with the carrier, and consider the Samsung-phone workaround only as a test, not a guarantee.

Will a factory reset fix error 4001?

Not necessarily. It will not correct an unsupported model, ineligible plan, or carrier database problem, and can remove the watch’s mobile profile. Check eligibility and ask about a fresh watch eSIM QR code before resetting.

Can I use any phone eSIM QR code on the watch?

No. Use a carrier profile specifically intended for a compatible smartwatch and the exact watch model/IMEI/EID. A general phone eSIM QR code is not automatically compatible.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does the Galaxy Watch4 LTE need its own plan?

It needs a carrier-supported smartwatch mobile plan or number-sharing arrangement to use LTE. Whether it has a separate number, shares the phone’s number, or supports standalone calls and data depends on the carrier and plan.

Can an imported Galaxy Watch4 LTE work with my local carrier?

Not always. Regional models, carrier bands, and eligibility differ. Ask the carrier to validate the exact model and IMEI/EID before attempting activation.

What should I tell the carrier?

Provide the watch model, IMEI, EID, ICCID if available, account and plan details, exact error and time, phone model and software, and whether the watch was reset, repaired, or previously activated. Ask the carrier to verify eligibility, identifier association, existing eSIM state, and provisioning.
