The Galaxy Watch5 is no longer waiting for one final update before Wear OS 6. Samsung’s official firmware history shows that at least some Watch5 configurations have already received software based on Wear OS 6, which Samsung’s update pages label AndroidWear 6.0.
The original “one more update before Wear OS 6” wording described an earlier stage of Samsung’s rollout. It should not be treated as the Watch5’s current software status—or as proof that Samsung has announced a final end-of-support date.
The current Galaxy Watch5 software position
Samsung’s official update record for the Galaxy Watch5 model SM-R905F lists several releases with AndroidWear 6.0, Samsung’s firmware-page terminology for the Wear OS 6 platform. The same record separately identifies the Samsung interface upgrade as One UI 8 Watch.
That confirms Wear OS 6-based software for the model and region represented by Samsung’s page. It does not prove that every Watch5 owner worldwide received the update on the same date. LTE, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, carrier and regional variants can follow different release schedules.

Samsung’s Watch5 firmware history is therefore more reliable than an undated headline or video suggesting that the watch is still waiting for Wear OS 6.
What the “one more update” story meant
The earlier story most likely referred to a smaller maintenance, stability or security release arriving before Samsung’s major One UI 8 Watch upgrade. That was a time-specific description of the rollout—not a permanent forecast of what would happen next.
The documented Watch5 path is broadly:
- One UI 6 Watch, based on Wear OS 5.
- Smaller stability and security updates.
- One UI 8 Watch, based on Wear OS 6.
- Additional Wear OS 6 security and reliability updates.
Samsung had already confirmed that the Watch5 and Watch5 Pro were eligible for One UI 6 Watch in its U.S. announcement and global announcement. The later official firmware record shows that the Watch5 update path progressed beyond that generation.

These entries apply to the specific SM-R905F record, not automatically to every Watch5 SKU. Samsung warns that update availability and changes can vary by model, country and service provider.

Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch are not the same thing
These names describe different layers of the software:
- Wear OS 6 is Google’s underlying smartwatch operating-system platform.
- One UI 8 Watch is Samsung’s interface and feature layer built on top of that platform.
Samsung’s documentation identifies the Galaxy Watch8 as using both Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch. The Watch5 firmware page uses the same distinction: it identifies the underlying version as AndroidWear 6.0 and labels Samsung’s major interface upgrade One UI 8 Watch.
Wear OS 6 does not turn a Watch5 into a Watch8. Hardware-dependent features, newer sensors, display characteristics and performance remain limited by the older watch’s physical components.

- IMPROVED BATTERY & GALAXY CONNECTED EXPERIENCE: Meet the watch that goes as long as you do; Galaxy Watch5’s improved battery keeps up with your busiest day Do more with synced Galaxy devices that work in perfect harmony
- A Now bar for ongoing tasks at the bottom of the watch face.
- Double-pinch gestures for actions such as scrolling notifications, controlling music, taking pictures and interacting with selected alerts.
- Later security, stability and reliability improvements.
Feature availability can vary by model, market and service provider. A Watch5 owner should treat Samsung’s listing as the documented feature set for the relevant update record, not a guarantee that every function works identically on every variant.
How to check your Watch5 for the update
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app on the paired Android phone.
- Select the Watch5.
- Open Watch settings.
- Tap Watch software update.
- Select Download and install if an update is available.
Keep the watch charged and connected during installation. Menu names can change slightly between Galaxy Wearable app versions.
To identify the correct firmware record, open Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → About watch and note the exact model number. Do not compare a firmware number from one Watch5 variant with a different LTE, Bluetooth or regional model.
Why Wear OS 6 may not appear for every owner
If the update is not offered, that does not necessarily mean the watch has been excluded. Check the following:

- Confirm the exact model and connectivity version.
- Update the Galaxy Wearable app and its Watch5 plug-in.
- Install any pending update for the paired phone.
- Connect through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and ensure the watch has sufficient charge.
- Restart both the phone and watch, then check again.
- Compare your model with Samsung’s country- and model-specific firmware page.
- Allow for staged deployment by region or carrier.
Never manually flash firmware intended for another model or region. A build that matches the Watch5 name may still be unsuitable for your specific hardware or service-provider variant.
What about the Galaxy Watch5 Pro?
Do not assume that the standard Watch5’s build number or release date applies to the Watch5 Pro. Samsung uses separate model pages and firmware identifiers for different variants.
Samsung’s earlier One UI 6 Watch announcements grouped the Watch5 and Watch5 Pro among eligible devices, but the Pro’s current status and timing should be checked against its own official firmware page. The SM-R905F record alone is not sufficient evidence for every Watch5 Pro model.
Does this mean the Watch5 is at the end of support?
No confirmed final support date is established by the cited Samsung records. The June 2026 entry is a security update after the One UI 8 Watch upgrade, showing that a major operating-system update is not necessarily the final software release.

Support also has several separate dimensions:
- Operating-system upgrades.
- Security patches.
- Samsung Health feature compatibility.
- Third-party app compatibility.
- Battery condition and hardware performance.
Samsung’s support documentation still describes the Watch5 as a Wear OS device with access to services such as the Play Store, Google Maps, Google Fit, Spotify, calls and messaging when paired appropriately. A missing future update would not automatically disable the watch.
The Watch5 does require a compatible Android phone for setup through Galaxy Wearable; it is not an iOS-compatible watch. LTE connectivity can provide more standalone functions after setup, but it does not remove every phone requirement. See Samsung’s setup requirements and Watch5 compatibility information for the relevant regional details.
Should you keep the Watch5 or upgrade?
Keep it if:
- It already shows Wear OS 6 or One UI 8 Watch.
- Battery life remains acceptable.
- You mainly need notifications, workouts, sleep tracking, Samsung Health and standard Wear OS apps.
- You are considering an upgrade only to obtain Wear OS 6.
Consider upgrading if:
- The battery has significantly degraded.
- The watch feels too slow for your daily use.
- You need newer sensors, a brighter display or newer health features.
- A used Watch5 costs close to a newer Watch7 or Watch8.
- You value a new-device warranty and a longer expected support runway.
Wear OS 6 improves the software position, but it does not provide newer watch hardware. User reports may describe older hardware feeling slower after major updates, but that is not established as a universal result by Samsung’s official documentation.
For buyers, a Watch5 can still make sense when priced substantially below newer models and its battery condition is known. A Galaxy Watch8 is the current Samsung option for shoppers prioritizing newer hardware and a new warranty; the official product page provides current model information. A Watch7 may be worth considering when discounted, but the software update alone is not a reason for every Watch5 owner to replace their watch.
What cannot be concluded from the available record
- That every global Watch5 SKU received Wear OS 6 simultaneously.
- That every Watch5 and Watch5 Pro variant uses the same build number.
- That the June 2026 security release is the final update.
- That the Watch5 has a published end-of-support date.
- That every One UI 8 Watch feature works on every model or in every country.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The “one more update before Wear OS 6” headline is now outdated. Samsung’s official firmware history shows Wear OS 6-based software and One UI 8 Watch on at least some Galaxy Watch5 configurations, followed by further 2026 security updates. Check your exact model, country and carrier record before judging whether your watch is current—and do not upgrade solely to obtain Wear OS 6.
