Yes, the deal was real—but $40 was the effective price, not the regular price. On November 23, 2024, Samsung’s Black Friday promotion brought the 40mm Bluetooth Galaxy Watch7 to $239.99, then offered a $200 credit for trading in an eligible Galaxy Watch. That made the watch $39.99 before tax for qualifying buyers. The LTE version worked out to $89.99, and this promotion is no longer current.
How the $40 price worked
The promotion combined an instant discount with a trade-in credit:

The offer was reported on November 23, 2024, as a limited Black Friday promotion. The contemporary deal coverage listed the Galaxy Watch4, Watch4 Classic, Watch5, Watch5 Pro, and Watch6 as models eligible for the stated $200 credit. That list describes this particular promotion; trade-in eligibility and values can change with the offer, model, condition, and market.

Bluetooth was $40; LTE was not
The $39.99 calculation applied to the 40mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi model. The LTE version came to $89.99 after the same discount and trade-in credit. LTE can let a watch connect to a cellular network without relying on a nearby paired phone, but it requires a compatible carrier and may add activation charges or recurring plan fees. Those costs were not included in the watch’s promotional price.
Was it really a bargain?
For a Samsung-phone owner who already had an eligible older Galaxy Watch and did not need LTE, $39.99 out of pocket was a compelling upgrade price. But the checkout figure did not capture the full economic cost: the buyer handed over another device. If that watch could have been sold privately for more than $200, or was useful as a backup, trading it in may have been the worse deal.

It helps to keep three numbers separate:
- Out of pocket: $39.99 before tax for the 40mm Bluetooth model during the offer.
- Discounted price without trade-in: $239.99 before tax.
- Economic cost: the out-of-pocket amount plus the value of the watch surrendered.
The Watch7 offers smartwatch features such as notifications, apps, calls, fitness tracking, and Samsung ecosystem integration. Samsung’s product page describes its features, including health and wellness tools. These are consumer wellness features, not a substitute for medical advice or diagnosis. Some capabilities are most useful with a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, so buyers using another Android phone should check feature compatibility before purchasing.
The 40mm case suits some smaller wrists, but buyers who want a larger display may prefer the 44mm model. Do not assume the smaller watch will meet every buyer’s battery expectations: battery life depends on use and settings, and user complaints in retailer reviews are anecdotal rather than controlled tests. Samsung provides general battery guidance.

Can you still get one for $40?
No equivalent offer is established by the historical promotion. In an August 2026 availability snapshot, Walmart displayed a restored 40mm Bluetooth Watch7 at $119.99 but marked it out of stock. Best Buy displayed a Samsung-refurbished 40mm Bluetooth model at $189.99. These are volatile retailer listings, not guaranteed current prices or direct Samsung offers; check stock, seller, condition, return terms, and warranty on the Walmart listing or Best Buy listing before deciding. A refurbished label does not by itself promise a new battery.

- Confirm the exact Watch7 size and whether it is Bluetooth or LTE.
- Check whether the listed price already includes an instant discount and whether the trade-in credit is conditional.
- Verify your old watch’s exact model and the promotion’s condition requirements. A mismatch or condition issue can affect the credit.
- Compare the credit with what you could realistically get by selling the old watch, and consider whether you still need it.
- Review the final checkout total, including taxes, any shipping, and—if choosing LTE—carrier costs.
- For refurbished stock, check who is selling it, what is included, the return window, warranty, and any battery-health assurance.
- Confirm phone and carrier compatibility for the features you intend to use.
The $40 headline was shorthand for a specific trade-in calculation, not a normal or lasting Watch7 price. It was a strong deal for the right Samsung owner with a qualifying watch to spare; it was not a universal $40 smartwatch offer.
