Garmin announced the Forerunner 970 and Forerunner 570 for India on August 6, 2025. The 970 is the premium 47 mm model, with built-in maps, turn-by-turn navigation, a flashlight and titanium-and-sapphire construction. The 570 costs less and keeps the core training toolkit, multi-band GPS and adaptive workouts, but has no built-in maps. On Garmin India’s store on August 18, 2026, the listed 970 was ₹92,990 and the displayed 570 configuration was ₹67,990—a difference of about ₹25,000.
India price and availability
Garmin’s India announcement followed its global announcement on May 15, 2025; the two dates refer to different announcements. Garmin India’s product pages showed an estimated delivery window of five to seven business days when checked. These are current store signals, not the watches’ original launch prices, and prices, stock and delivery estimates can change.

Garmin’s Forerunner 970 listing and Forerunner 570 listing are the relevant official-store pages. The 570 page shows size options, but the observed price does not establish that every size and colour combination costs the same; check the selected SKU before buying.

What both watches offer
Both are performance-oriented GPS watches for running and multisport training, rather than general-purpose lifestyle watches. Each has an AMOLED touchscreen with five-button controls, multi-band GPS and Garmin SatIQ, which adjusts positioning mode to balance location performance and battery use. These technologies do not guarantee perfect tracking in tunnels, dense tree cover or urban canyons.

Both also include Garmin’s training and connected features: Daily Suggested Workouts, Training Readiness, recovery insights, projected race-time estimates, Garmin Coach plans, Garmin Triathlon Coach, and the ability to create custom multisport workouts in Garmin Connect. Health and wellness features include sleep tracking, Sleep Coach and skin-temperature tracking. Their smart features include notifications, music storage and phone-free playback through supported services, Garmin Pay, and calls or voice assistance when paired with a compatible phone.
Music downloads through supported services such as Spotify, Deezer or Amazon Music require compatible accounts; Garmin’s launch material specifies premium subscriptions for downloads. Garmin Pay depends on the country, bank and payment network. Incident detection, Assistance and LiveTrack have smartphone, connectivity and activity limitations. Treat Training Readiness and recovery suggestions as estimates based on recorded data, not medical assessments or substitutes for a coach.

Forerunner 970: maps, premium construction and extra metrics
The 47 mm Forerunner 970 adds the features that matter most when choosing between these models: full-colour maps stored on the watch, turn-by-turn directions, course synchronisation through Garmin Connect, dynamic round-trip routing and automatic recalculation if you leave a route. That makes it the more practical choice for trail runners and cyclists following unfamiliar courses. A runner who sticks to known roads may rarely use the mapping premium.
The 970 pairs multi-band GPS and SatIQ with a titanium bezel, sapphire lens and built-in LED flashlight. The flashlight can help with visibility on early or late outings, but should not be treated as a replacement for a dedicated light in dark conditions.

What the 970’s extra running metrics mean
- Running tolerance: Estimates the impact of running on the body and recommends a weekly maximum mileage.
- Running economy: Estimates energy efficiency across multiple runs. Garmin specifies that the HRM 600 chest strap is required.
- Step speed loss: Measures how much speed is lost when the foot strikes the ground. Garmin also specifies the HRM 600 for this metric.
The HRM 600 is an additional accessory, not part of the watch price. Buying the 970 by itself therefore does not unlock every advertised running metric. ECG support is also region- and software-dependent; an ECG app should not be assumed available to every buyer.
Forerunner 570: serious training tools for less
The Forerunner 570 comes in 42 mm and 47 mm case sizes, with an aluminium bezel and multiple colour options. It retains multi-band GPS, SatIQ and PacePro grade-adjusted pacing, as well as course-based training features. Garmin’s launch comparison distinguishes it from the 970 by the absence of built-in full-colour maps and the 970’s navigation features.

Training functions include wrist-based running power, running dynamics, Training Status, acute load, Training Effect, Performance Condition, VO2 max, Training Readiness, Daily Suggested Workouts, Sleep Coach and recovery guidance. It is not a basic GPS watch; its main trade-offs versus the 970 are navigation, construction and the latter’s additional performance metrics. The two case sizes may differ in screen, weight or battery characteristics; confirm the specifications for the exact size and SKU rather than assuming they are identical.

Garmin India gives the smartwatch-mode maximums above; these are manufacturer ratings, not typical-use guarantees. GPS-mode endurance for the 970 is not stated in the India launch announcement, so a single battery figure should not be inferred from its smartwatch rating. Actual battery life depends on settings and use, including GPS mode, music, screen settings, notifications and sensors.

Which one should you buy?
Choose the 970 for navigation-heavy training
- You regularly run trails or ride unfamiliar routes and want maps and directions on your wrist.
- You value a sapphire lens, titanium bezel or built-in flashlight.
- You intend to use its additional training metrics and are prepared to add the HRM 600 for running economy and step speed loss.
Choose the 570 for training value
- You mostly run familiar roads or navigate with your phone.
- You want multi-band GPS, adaptive workouts, recovery features, running dynamics and wrist-based running power without paying for maps and premium materials.
- You want the option of a 42 mm case.
Keep your current watch—or consider a less costly upgrade
If your current Garmin already covers your training needs, the 970’s extra cost is hard to justify without a real use for its maps, materials or metrics. A previous-generation Forerunner may also be a better-value choice if discounted, but prices and availability for older models are not established here. For buyers seeking mostly notifications, music and basic health tracking, either performance-focused Forerunner may be more watch than they need.
Regional and buying caveats
- Health features: ECG availability varies with region, software and regulatory approval. Pulse Ox and other wellness measurements should not be treated as diagnoses.
- Payments and safety: Garmin Pay availability varies by country, bank and payment network. Incident detection and related safety tools depend on a compatible paired smartphone and may be limited by activity or network coverage.
- Battery: Garmin’s “up to” figures are maximum ratings; multi-band GPS, music and other active features can reduce endurance.
- Warranty: Garmin India’s launch announcement states a two-year warranty for both watches. Confirm the terms that apply to the specific SKU and seller.
- Prices: Recheck the selected size, colour and price on Garmin India before purchase; the figures here were observed on August 18, 2026.
