Garmin announced the tactix 8 – Cerakote Edition on January 20, 2026, with U.S. availability announced for January 23 at a suggested retail price of $1,599.99. It is a 51mm AMOLED version of the tactix 8 with a Cerakote-coated titanium bezel, sapphire lens and tactical features including Jumpmaster. Garmin’s “up to 29 days” battery rating is for smartwatch mode with Gesture enabled; with the display always on, the rating is up to 13 days. This is chiefly a premium-finish variant, not a new tactix platform.
What the tactix 8 Cerakote Edition includes
The U.S. launch configuration is a 51mm watch with a 1.4-inch AMOLED display, sapphire lens, titanium bezel with Cerakote coating, built-in LED flashlight and Applied Ballistics Ultralight. Garmin announced slate gray and olive drab finishes. The launch announcement set a $1,599.99 suggested retail price and said U.S. availability would begin January 23, 2026. That is the announced launch timing and price, not a guarantee of current stock or transaction price. Garmin’s launch announcement describes the model and its features.
This is not a smaller-size option: Garmin specifies a 51mm case for Cerakote. The wider tactix 8 family includes a 47mm AMOLED model and 51mm solar variants, but those are different configurations.
What Cerakote changes—and what is not established
Cerakote is a ceramic-polymer composite coating. Garmin says it is sprayed onto the watch and baked to cure, and describes the material as resistant to abrasion, corrosion and chemicals. It also says the finish develops an individual appearance as it wears. For the buyer, the clear difference is the distinctive slate-gray or olive-drab finish; the coating is also intended to add surface protection.

Garmin’s announcement does not provide independent abrasion or impact testing, coating-thickness data, or a quantified durability improvement over the standard tactix 8 finish. It therefore does not establish how the coating will hold up for a particular wearer, or that it is scratch-proof or indestructible.
How Jumpmaster fits into the watch
Jumpmaster is a specialized activity for airborne operations. Garmin lists HAHO (High Altitude, High Opening), HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) and Static jump types. The tactix 8 owner’s manual says the feature follows military guidelines for calculating a high altitude release point (HARP).
That description does not establish accuracy in live airborne conditions or make the watch an authority for a jump. Jumpmaster is a planning and navigation aid, not a replacement for qualified training, aircraft briefings, mission procedures or official navigation equipment. Use the current manual and applicable professional procedures for setup and operation; the launch materials alone do not verify every input, assumption or recovery behavior.

Which tactical features matter?
Stealth Mode
Garmin says Stealth Mode disables wireless communications while the watch continues tracking distance and biometric data without recording location. That is a specific manufacturer description, not a claim that every emission or form of discoverability is eliminated. It is also distinct from the kill switch: the launch materials do not specify the kill switch’s precise deletion behavior, confirmation steps, or what happens to data already synchronized to a phone or service.
Kill switch
Garmin lists a kill switch among the tactical functions, but the cited launch information does not establish exactly what it deletes, whether it can be used while the watch is locked, or whether deletion affects copies already synced elsewhere. Do not treat it as remote erasure of phone, cloud or third-party data.
Night-vision compatibility
Garmin describes the watch as compatible with night-vision goggles and says its display controls can be dimmed or blacked out to reduce detectability. The product information does not establish a formal military certification, nor does it fully specify which display elements or flashlight behaviors remain available in every NVG-related setting.

Dual-position GPS and MGRS
The watch can show two coordinate formats, such as MGRS and latitude/longitude, on one data screen. That can help users working across military and civilian mapping conventions. Coordinate-format support is not a guarantee of positioning accuracy in obstructed, jammed or degraded conditions.

The Cerakote model includes Applied Ballistics Ultralight. Garmin identifies Applied Ballistics Elite on the tactix 8 Solar AB Elite instead, so buyers who specifically need the Elite solver should compare that model rather than assume the Cerakote edition has it. A ballistic solution depends on correct rifle, ammunition, zero and environmental inputs; the watch is not a substitute for training or range verification. Garmin also references a separate Applied Ballistics Quantum app, but the cited launch material does not establish its precise requirements or included services.
Rucking
A dedicated rucking activity lets the user enter pack weight. It complements the outdoor and training feature set, though it is separate from the watch’s airborne and ballistic functions.

How to read the 29-day battery rating
Garmin’s battery figures below are maximum ratings for the 51mm AMOLED configuration, not a promise of identical real-world runtime. Gesture mode means the display is not set to remain always on. Garmin says actual life varies with features such as wrist-based heart rate, notifications, GPS, internal sensors and connected sensors. GPS-heavy recording and music use substantially shorter listed runtimes than smartwatch mode.

These are Garmin’s stated estimates in its tactix 8 battery documentation. Display choice is especially consequential: Garmin rates smartwatch use at up to 29 days with Gesture, versus up to 13 with always-on. GPS mode, multi-band positioning, music, phone connection, notifications and sensor settings also affect use between charges. The cited rating table does not quantify a separate flashlight-use scenario.

Hardware and outdoor functions beyond tactical use
The tactix 8 platform combines multi-band GPS with SatIQ, TopoActive maps, a built-in LED flashlight, a 40-meter dive rating with scuba and apnea activity support, and aviation-navigation features. Garmin also lists golf and ski maps, speaker and microphone, Garmin Pay, smart notifications, music storage and support for selected music services. Calls and voice features require pairing with a compatible Apple or Android phone where applicable.

Health and training features include sleep and nap tracking, Body Battery, Pulse Ox and training tools. ECG is not available in every region; Pulse Ox and other health features may also be subject to regional and regulatory limits. Garmin says the watch is not a medical device. Some premium map content may depend on Garmin Connect+ or Outdoor Maps+ and regional availability; the included TopoActive maps and paid map layers should not be assumed to be the same offering.
The 51mm case is a substantial footprint, potentially awkward under sleeves or gloves and less comfortable for smaller wrists or overnight wear. Garmin’s standard 51mm Solar model is listed at 51 × 51 × 15.4mm and 67g for the case alone, but that specification should not be transferred to the Cerakote edition: its exact listed weight is not established by the cited launch material. Sapphire is selected for scratch resistance, but that does not mean it cannot be damaged by a severe impact.

The solar maximum assumes all-day wear with three hours per day outside in 50,000 lux conditions; it is not a guaranteed runtime in every environment. Garmin’s comparison pages are Cerakote AMOLED, standard AMOLED, Solar and Solar AB Elite; prices and stock can change.
- Choose Cerakote AMOLED if the finish and AMOLED screen are the priorities.
- Choose standard AMOLED if the core platform matters more than the Cerakote finish; verify its live price before buying.
- Choose Solar for solar charging and longer stated endurance.
- Choose Solar AB Elite if the Elite ballistic solver and solar configuration matter more than Cerakote.
Who should consider it?
The price makes the most sense for buyers with a real use for the tactix’s specialized feature set—such as trained airborne, tactical, ballistic or expedition-navigation users—or for existing Garmin users who specifically value this finish and AMOLED configuration. The watch is difficult to justify as a routine fitness tracker: many buyers will not use Jumpmaster, MGRS, Stealth Mode or a ballistic solver.
