Yes, the Garmin Venu 4 is a real, standalone smartwatch. It was announced on September 17, 2025, and became available in the US on September 22, 2025, with a launch price starting at $549.99. It combines an AMOLED display, Garmin’s long battery life, health and recovery tracking, calls and music, and more advanced training analytics than the Venu 3.

One important clarification: Garmin says Fitness Coach supports personalized workouts for more than 25 activities. That is not necessarily the same as saying the watch has exactly 25 new built-in sports modes.

What launched

The Venu 4 is Garmin’s successor to the Venu 3 and is positioned between a lifestyle smartwatch and a serious fitness watch. It is available in 41 mm and 45 mm case sizes, with regional color and strap options varying by market. Both sizes use AMOLED screens, include the same broad health and smartwatch platform, and add a built-in LED flashlight.

The US launch MSRP was $549.99, although live pricing and availability can change. The US Garmin product page is the appropriate place to check current availability.

Sizes, display and design

Model Display Smartwatch battery Band size
41 mm 1.2-inch AMOLED, 390 × 390 pixels Up to 10 days 18 mm
45 mm 1.4-inch AMOLED, 454 × 454 pixels Up to 12 days 22 mm

The watch has a metal-focused design with stainless-steel elements, a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 lens, and a 5 ATM water rating. Both sizes include an optional always-on display, built-in speaker and microphone, and an LED flashlight.

The 41 mm model is the better choice for smaller wrists and a lighter, less conspicuous watch. The 45 mm model offers a larger, easier-to-read screen and longer endurance. AMOLED provides strong contrast and color, but always-on mode, high brightness, notifications, GPS, music and Pulse Ox can reduce runtime substantially.

Battery life: official figures

Garmin’s figures are maximum estimates rather than guaranteed everyday results. The complete battery table from the Venu 4 owner’s manual is:

Mode 41 mm 45 mm
Smartwatch Up to 10 days Up to 12 days
Battery Saver watch Up to 18 days Up to 25 days
GPS only Up to 15 hours Up to 20 hours
All satellite systems Up to 13 hours Up to 19 hours
All satellites plus multi-band Up to 12 hours Up to 17 hours
All satellites plus music Up to 6 hours Up to 9 hours
All satellites, multi-band and music Up to 6 hours Up to 9 hours

Actual battery life depends on display settings, screen timeout, phone notifications, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use, connected sensors, wrist heart-rate monitoring, Pulse Ox, flashlight use, music, and the GPS mode selected. TechRadar reported roughly 10 days from the 45 mm model in a demanding mixed-use test, but that independent result should not be confused with Garmin’s official “up to” specification.

Health and wellness tools

The Venu 4 tracks wellness metrics and personal trends rather than diagnosing medical conditions. Its health platform includes:

Health Status

Health Status compares heart rate, HRV, respiration, skin temperature and Pulse Ox with the user’s typical range. It is best understood as a personal-baseline and trend tool. An unusual result is not a diagnosis and should not replace medical advice.

Lifestyle Logging

Lifestyle Logging lets users record behaviors such as caffeine or alcohol consumption and examine possible relationships with sleep, stress and HRV. The results are self-reported correlations, not controlled medical evidence or proof that one behavior caused a particular outcome.

Pulse Ox and ECG availability varies by country, regulation and device eligibility. Garmin also states that the watch is not a medical device.

Fitness Coach and training features

Garmin Fitness Coach provides personalized heart-rate- and duration-based workouts for more than 25 fitness activities, including walking, indoor cycling, rowing and HIIT. Recommendations can adapt using activity history, sleep and recovery information.

That wording matters: “25+ Fitness Coach activities” should not automatically be interpreted as 25 newly added standalone activity profiles. The Venu 4 also supports ordinary activity tracking and a broad set of structured training tools, including:

  • Recovery time, heat acclimation and altitude acclimation.
  • Wrist-based running dynamics, including ground-contact time and vertical oscillation.
  • Lactate-threshold estimates, PacePro pacing strategies, Hill Score and Race Predictor.
  • Cycling power-related metrics with compatible equipment.
  • A Mixed Session profile for combining multiple activities in one workout.

Feature availability can depend on the activity, software version, user profile, country, compatible sensors and whether a structured plan is being used. The Venu 4 is more capable than a basic wellness tracker, but dedicated runners and multisport athletes may still prefer a Forerunner or higher-end Garmin model.

GPS and outdoor limitations

The watch supports multi-satellite positioning, including GPS and other regional satellite systems, as well as multi-band positioning and SatIQ features listed in the product documentation. It can follow courses and record outdoor activities.

It does not provide the full-color maps found on Garmin’s mapping-focused outdoor watches. It also has no LTE cellular connection. Safety features such as incident detection and LiveTrack require Garmin Connect, a compatible paired phone, data service and network coverage. In practice, the Venu 4 is not a phone-independent emergency communicator.

Smartwatch functions

When paired with a compatible iPhone or Android phone, the Venu 4 supports smartphone notifications, wrist-based calls, music storage, Garmin Pay where supported, and voice-assistant access through the phone. It also works with Garmin Connect and the Connect IQ ecosystem.

The speaker and microphone make calls and voice-related functions convenient, but this is not equivalent to an Apple Watch or Wear OS watch with LTE. The Venu 4 is a fitness-first smartwatch with phone-assisted communication, not a complete cellular phone replacement.

Accessibility improvements

Accessibility is one of the Venu 4’s more meaningful additions. Garmin adds a spoken watch face that can announce the time and health data, hourly spoken alerts, and color-display options for some forms of color blindness. Wheelchair mode and related wheelchair tracking are also part of Garmin’s broader accessibility support.

These features have practical value for users who cannot easily read the display or who need wheelchair-specific activity tracking. Compatibility and the exact available options can vary by software and device configuration.

Garmin Venu 4 versus Venu 3

Area Venu 3 Venu 4
Design Polymer case with stainless-steel bezel More extensive metal design
Display AMOLED AMOLED
Health Strong wellness and sleep tracking Adds Health Status, Lifestyle Logging and sleep-alignment tools
Training Broad activity tracking and Garmin Coach Adds more advanced performance and training context
Flashlight No built-in flashlight Built-in LED flashlight
Accessibility Wheelchair features Adds spoken watch-face and color-display options
Best fit General wellness and fitness Wellness users wanting deeper training analysis

Because the Venu 3 already has an AMOLED display, long battery life, speaker and microphone functions, and substantial health tracking, the Venu 4 is not an automatic upgrade. Its case for existing owners rests mainly on advanced training metrics, Health Status, Lifestyle Logging, sleep context, the flashlight and accessibility improvements.

Who should buy the Venu 4?

  • Buy it if you want: long battery life, a bright AMOLED display, Garmin’s health and recovery ecosystem, structured fitness guidance, running or cycling analytics, music, payments and a conventional premium design.
  • Choose the 41 mm model if: you have a smaller wrist, prefer a lighter watch and can accept shorter battery and GPS runtime.
  • Choose the 45 mm model if: you want the largest display, better workout readability and the longest battery life.
  • Consider a Forerunner if: running, multisport training or sport-specific performance analysis matters more than lifestyle design.
  • Consider a fēnix or outdoor Garmin if: you need full-color maps, rugged navigation or more extreme endurance features.
  • Consider an Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch if: LTE, standalone communications, broader apps and deeper phone integration are priorities.
  • Keep the Venu 3 if: you already own it and do not need the Venu 4’s newer training, health-context, flashlight or accessibility features.

Verdict

The Garmin Venu 4 is a premium AMOLED fitness smartwatch rather than a full Apple Watch or Wear OS replacement. Its strongest advantages are battery life, health and recovery trends, Fitness Coach, expanded training analysis, the flashlight and improved accessibility. Its main compromises are the $549.99 US launch price, phone dependence for safety and voice features, no LTE, and no full-color maps.

For a buyer who wants one watch for everyday wear, wellness, structured exercise and occasional outdoor activity, the Venu 4 is a compelling upgrade over the Venu 3. For someone who mainly wants phone-free communication, a large app ecosystem or advanced map-based navigation, another smartwatch category will be a better fit.
