Verdict: Golden Concept’s RSC Onyx Black is a striking luxury shell for a compatible Apple Watch, not a new watch or a functional upgrade. In a 2022 hands-on review, the tested case felt light, fit securely, and left the screen, controls, and charging usable. The trade-offs are a very high historical price, an oversized look, careful screw installation, and a strap that must be cut to fit. Compatibility and availability for newer Apple Watch models are not confirmed, so check with Golden Concept before buying.

What the RSC Onyx Black is—and isn’t
The RSC Onyx Black is an aftermarket case and strap that surrounds a compatible Apple Watch to give it a much larger, angular luxury-sports-watch appearance. The Apple Watch itself supplies the display, electronics, software, and sensors; it is not included with the case. This is a visual conversion, not a mechanical watch, a new smartwatch, or an Apple product.

Golden Concept places the model in its Racing Sport Carbon (RSC) design family. The name “Onyx Black” should not be taken to mean every version has identical materials or color details: the reviewed configuration had rose-gold-plated titanium around a carbon-composite plate, fastened with four gold-plated screws. Other listings show different finishes, including raw-titanium options. Confirm the precise finish and materials for the version being offered.

Design: dramatic, deliberately oversized
The design is built around a raised bezel, angular cut-outs, visible screws, and a carbon plate. The Apple Watch screen sits inside the bezel, making the familiar rectangular display part of a much more elaborate case silhouette. Fratello’s reviewer compared the styling to Richard Mille’s oversized, skeletonized sports watches. That is a visual comparison only: the RSC is not a Richard Mille product, and no partnership or endorsement is implied.
From a distance, the carbon and metallic details can make the watch look like a miniature piece of high-end watch theatre. Up close and in everyday settings, that same scale and visual busyness can feel excessive. This is for someone who wants the Apple Watch to attract attention, not someone seeking a discreet case or a close imitation of a conventional watch.
Installation: check first, then assemble carefully
The process is more involved than snapping on a basic protective cover. The hands-on review found that the watch fitted securely and its screen remained touchable, but also noted that the supplied screwdriver was not ideal for the screw slots and that installation caused minor burrs. Spare screws were included in the reviewed kit.

- Confirm the exact fit. Identify your Apple Watch generation and case size, then verify that the specific RSC version supports both. Similar-looking product images are not proof of compatibility.
- Position the watch head. Place the Apple Watch in the front housing and check that the screen sits correctly beneath the bezel.
- Fit the rear plate. Align the carbon-composite plate without forcing it. Check the edges and openings before tightening anything.
- Secure the screws gently. Keep the screwdriver seated and apply controlled pressure. Avoid forcing a poorly aligned driver or overtightening.
- Test the watch before fitting the strap. Check the touchscreen, Digital Crown, side button, and charging with the case assembled.
- Fit the strap only after checking wrist position. Cutting is irreversible; measure and test the intended fit first.
Important: the rubber strap has to be cut
The supplied rubber strap needs trimming. Fratello’s reviewer advises removing material a little at a time; the two ends are not interchangeable in practice because the six-o’clock end carries a molded logo. Cutting too much, cutting the wrong end, or overlooking the logo’s orientation can leave the strap uneven or awkwardly positioned.
- Photograph the strap and its orientation before cutting.
- Try the case on and settle its position on your wrist before measuring.
- If following the reviewer’s approach, begin with the six-o’clock side and make small, incremental cuts.
- Do not assume both ends should be shortened equally.
- Before cutting, ask whether replacement straps or other parts are available for your exact version.
What worked in the hands-on test
In Fratello’s tested setup, the touchscreen, Digital Crown, side button, and charging remained usable, and the reviewer reported that normal Apple Watch functions were not negatively affected. The reviewer also said the case did not appear to affect water resistance in that test. These are observations from one sample and setup, not a guarantee for every case, Apple Watch generation, installation, or device condition.
Basic access to controls does not establish that every rear sensor works with unchanged accuracy. The available review does not provide controlled comparisons for heart rate, blood oxygen, workout measurements, temperature, or sleep tracking. If health measurements are central to your use, seek model-specific confirmation rather than assuming that a good screen fit proves sensor performance.

Likewise, the review’s water-resistance observation is not a separate water-resistance rating for the Golden Concept case. It cannot restore a watch’s resistance if its seals are worn or it has been cracked, repaired, or damaged. Follow Apple’s normal water-exposure guidance and do not use this case as a reason to take an uncertain or compromised watch into water.

For the 41mm version tested, Fratello reports a case width of 41mm, a lug-to-lug length of 48mm, a thickness of 13.8mm, and a case weight of about 20g. That 20g is the case alone, not the complete watch with the Apple Watch and strap. The reviewer found the rubber strap comfortable and the clasp secure, and reported a wrist fit of approximately 16.5cm to 25cm. Treat that range as one reviewer’s experience, not a guaranteed fit specification.
Low case weight does not make the RSC compact. Its thickness and extended shape give it a substantial footprint that may catch on cuffs or feel intrusive at a desk, during exercise, or while sleeping. Try to assess the case on your actual wrist and under the sleeves you wear; photographs rarely communicate its full scale. Rubber comfort can also vary with heat, sweat, and skin sensitivity.

Compatibility: the most important buying check
The tested sample was reported compatible with Apple Watch Series 7, Series 6, Series 5, Series 4, and SE, with the correct size and version selected. That is a compatibility statement from a 2022 review, not current confirmation for every RSC listing or every Apple Watch sold today.

Apple Watch generations can differ in dimensions, sensor layout, microphone and speaker openings, charging geometry, and button placement. A case that appears close in size may still fail to fit or obstruct an opening. The official Golden Concept storefront now emphasizes newer cases, while the legacy RSC Onyx Black pages are not reliable evidence of stock or current compatibility. Check the official Golden Concept storefront and ask about the exact watch model, size, finish, and case before paying.
Materials and durability
The reviewed RSC configuration is described as titanium with a carbon-composite plate. Titanium helps keep the case light; the carbon plate provides much of its distinctive appearance. Retailer language such as “aerospace-grade titanium,” “IP68,” or claims of exceptional scratch resistance should be treated as marketing unless the seller supplies specific, applicable evidence. The hands-on review does not establish an impact rating or quantify scratch performance.

The screws and their slots deserve particular care during assembly, and a plated finish may show cosmetic wear differently from raw titanium. That is a consideration, not evidence of a documented failure rate. In any finish, an exterior shell cannot guarantee that the Apple Watch’s screen, electronics, or sensors are protected from impact or continue to function normally.
Price and value
Fratello reported a price of $1,599 in April 2022. That is a historical figure, not a verified current price. The legacy product page and current catalog evidence do not establish today’s price, stock, shipping, taxes, duties, or warranty terms. Ask Golden Concept for a current quote for the exact version and destination.
At that level, the purchase is about design, materials, finishing, and exclusivity—not more Apple Watch intelligence or improved software. The case may cost more than the watch it encloses. Compare the complete cost, including the Apple Watch if you do not already own one, shipping, taxes, and any replacement strap or screws, with what you actually want:
- Choose a conventional protective case if low cost, replaceability, and everyday practicality matter most.
- Consider a premium bumper or slim case if you want upgraded materials without changing the Apple Watch’s proportions so dramatically.
- Consider a traditional luxury watch if your priority is independent watchmaking and a watch identity of its own rather than smartwatch features.
- Look at a current Golden Concept model if you own a newer Apple Watch, but treat it as a different product and check its exact compatibility and health-function limitations.
Who should buy it?
The RSC Onyx Black makes sense if you already own a confirmed compatible Apple Watch, want a conspicuous Richard Mille-inspired aesthetic, are comfortable with small-screw assembly and irreversible strap trimming, and view the expense as a fashion purchase. Its light case weight and the tested sample’s retained controls and charging make it more usable than a purely ornamental shell—but they do not turn it into a functional upgrade.
Skip it if you want discreet protection, guaranteed fit for a recent Apple Watch, independently verified health-sensor performance, a small-wrist-friendly silhouette, or strong value for money. It is also a poor choice if you do not want to cut the strap or if you expect the case to make a damaged watch water resistant.
Bottom line: The RSC Onyx Black succeeds as an extravagant conversion for a particular kind of Apple Watch owner. The historical hands-on evidence suggests a secure, usable fit and comfortable strap, but the size, installation risks, $1,599 historical price, and uncertain present-day compatibility make it a considered style purchase—not a sensible upgrade for protection, tracking, or value.
