Google announced on March 4, 2025, that the next planned Pixel Watch update would target June, with updates planned quarterly after that. The announcement accompanied the March Wear OS 5.1 rollout for supported Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, and Pixel Watch 3 devices. It described a planned schedule—not a guarantee that every watch would receive each update on the same date, and not an end to software or security support.
What Google announced
In its March 2025 Pixel Watch update announcement, Google said the March update was rolling out in phases and that the next planned update was targeted for June 2025. It said updates would be quarterly thereafter.
This was a change in the cadence Google was communicating to owners. Pixel Watch updates had often arrived more frequently, but the schedule immediately preceding the announcement was not perfectly monthly: Google pointed to updates in August, September, and November 2024. The key confirmed change was its stated plan for quarterly updates—not a promise of exactly four releases in every calendar year.

Which watches were covered?
The March update applied to supported first-generation Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, and Pixel Watch 3 devices. Google listed these global software builds:
- Pixel Watch:
BP1A.250305.019.W2 - Pixel Watch 2:
BP1A.250305.019.W3 - Pixel Watch 3:
BP1A.250305.019.W3
“Supported” does not mean that every watch received the update at once. Google described a phased rollout, with availability varying by carrier and device. A watch that did not show an update immediately was not necessarily unsupported.

What was in the March 2025 update?
The release included Wear OS 5.1, bug fixes, and performance improvements, along with feature changes whose availability depended on the watch model, region, and—in some cases—the Fitbit app:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Pixel Watch 3 in the United States: Loss of Pulse Detection expanded following FDA clearance.
- Pixel Watch 3: Menstrual-health features through the Fitbit app.
- Pixel Watch: Updated media controls and changes to the step-counting algorithm.
- Pixel Watch 2: Expanded on-device Auto Bedtime functionality.
These were not universal features delivered identically to every model or country. Some Fitbit-related capabilities may arrive through an app update rather than the watch’s main system update, and health features can be subject to regional availability.

Did quarterly updates mean fewer security updates?
Google’s announcement did not say that security support was ending or that security fixes would be withheld between planned software releases. It linked to security-bulletin information, but it did not define a separate security-patch timetable in the announcement. So the supported conclusion is limited: Google announced a quarterly planned update cadence, not that Pixel Watch owners would receive no security fixes between feature releases.
Nor did Google say that quarterly meant an unbreakable schedule of one combined update every three months for every model and region. The wording left room for phased availability, delays, or a separate response to an urgent issue.

Why did Google change the cadence?
Google did not give a reason. Some secondary coverage suggested that less frequent releases could make it easier to bundle changes or coordinate them with Pixel Feature Drops, but that is analysis, not Google’s stated explanation. A quarterly plan could mean fewer interruptions and more bundled changes; the trade-off is that owners might wait longer for a routine fix if it is held for a later release. The announcement does not establish how Google would handle any particular bug or urgent security issue.

A planned release month is not a universal delivery date. Carrier approval, watch variant, region, and staged rollout timing can affect when an update appears. A watch may report that it is up to date while a rollout is underway elsewhere. Regional health features and Fitbit app updates can also follow different availability paths from the main operating-system update.

- The Google Pixel Watch 3 is designed for performance, with advanced fitness from Fitbit[1,2]; the 45mm screen is twice as bright and 40% larger than before, making it easier to see your stats and info[1]
- Maximize your performance with advanced running features; build custom run workouts and get real-time guidance and advanced form tracking[3]
- Enhance your run routine with Fitbit Premium; Google AI uses your goals, past runs, and readiness to power personalized run recommendations[3]
- Know what your body is ready for each day with readiness; it uses sleep, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability to show if you’re ready to take on a workout or prioritize recovery[3]
- Cardio load measures how hard your heart works so you can see how hard you’ve pushed; compare trends to see if you’re under- or over-training[3]
- Keep the watch charged and connected; use Wi-Fi when prompted or required for the download.
- On the watch, open Settings > System > System updates to check availability.
- Allow time for downloading, installation, optimization, and a restart. Do not assume the update has failed simply because another device received it first.
- Do not factory-reset the watch solely because an update has not appeared yet. If it remains on an older build well after the applicable rollout, contact Google Pixel Watch support.
Reports of delayed updates or post-update problems in community discussions are individual experiences, not evidence that all owners are affected. Troubleshooting should follow official support guidance rather than treating anecdotal workarounds as guaranteed fixes.
What the schedule change means for a buying decision
The announcement alone is not a reason every owner needs to replace a Pixel Watch. It is relevant if frequent software releases are a priority: a quarterly plan can mean fewer routine update interruptions, but potentially longer waits for some fixes. The Pixel Watch may still suit someone who values Google services, Fitbit integration, and Wear OS apps. Samsung Galaxy Watch is another Android option, while Apple Watch is relevant to people using or considering an iPhone; this schedule announcement does not establish that either alternative has better update support.
Bottom line
Google confirmed in March 2025 that it planned to target June for the next Pixel Watch update and move to quarterly updates thereafter. The plan covered supported Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, and Pixel Watch 3 devices, but rollout timing could vary. Google did not explain the change or announce an end to security support, and the announcement should not be treated as proof of the schedule’s status in 2026.
