The Galaxy Watch 4 can run Google Fit, but Samsung Health and Google Fit do not sync directly. If you want Watch 4 data recorded in Samsung Health to appear in Google Fit, connect both apps through Health Connect. If Google Fit itself is failing to track activity on the watch, troubleshoot the Fit app, account and permissions separately.
The distinction matters: Galaxy Watch 4 → Samsung Health → Health Connect → Google Fit is the route for Samsung Health data. Installing Google Fit on the watch makes it a separate tracker; it does not automatically import everything Samsung Health records.
First identify where the data stops
Check the latest activity in each app, in order. Repair the first link that is missing data rather than resetting the watch or changing every setting at once.
| What you see | Likely issue | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| The watch activity is absent from Samsung Health on the phone | The watch-to-phone connection or Samsung Health sync | Confirm the watch is connected in Galaxy Wearable and check Samsung Health |
| Samsung Health has the activity, but Google Fit on the watch does not | Google Fit on the watch, its account, updates or permissions | Check Fit on the watch separately from Samsung Health |
| Google Fit works on the watch, but Samsung Health data is missing from Fit on the phone | The Health Connect bridge or category permissions | Check access for both apps in Health Connect |
| Steps transfer, but another metric does not | A permission or metric-sharing limitation | Inspect permissions for that category before treating the whole connection as broken |
| The watch and phone show different totals | Delayed synchronization or different calculation methods | Allow time for syncing, then compare the same metric and time period |
Samsung confirms that the Watch 4 can run Google Fit as a Wear OS app, while stating that Samsung Health data and Google Fit data cannot be synchronized directly. The watch app is not identical to Samsung Health; for example, Samsung says Google Fit on the watch does not include sleep tracking. See Samsung’s Galaxy Watch and Google Fit guidance.

Fix Google Fit tracking on the watch
Use these steps if the problem is that Google Fit on the Watch 4 does not record activity or its records do not appear in the phone’s Fit app. They do not set up Samsung Health data sharing.
- Install or update Fit on both devices. On the phone, open the Play Store and update Google Fit. On the watch, open Play Store and check app updates; install Fit there if it is not present. Installing Fit on the phone alone does not make the watch record through Fit.
- Update related apps. Check for updates to Google Fit on the watch and phone, and Wear OS if it is offered as a separate update on the phone. Update Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health too. Available app names and update menus vary by device and software version.
- Check the Google account. In the phone’s Google Fit app, tap Profile and note the account. On the watch, swipe down, open Settings → Personalization → Accounts, and check that Fit is using the same Google account.
- Restore Fit permissions. On the watch, look for Settings → Apps → Google Fit → Permissions. Allow physical activity, location and body sensors or heart rate where available and needed. Check the phone at Settings → Apps → Google Fit → Permissions as well. Labels can vary by Wear OS and One UI Watch version.
- Test with a new activity. Record a short walk after the checks and give the watch and phone time to synchronize. Google recommends updating Fit and Wear OS, using the same account, and allowing the relevant permissions when troubleshooting Fit on a watch: Google Fit watch troubleshooting.
Connect Samsung Health to Google Fit with Health Connect
Use this route when Samsung Health already shows the Watch 4 data but Google Fit on the phone does not. Health Connect is the intermediary; it does not turn the two apps into a direct integration or guarantee that every record can be transferred.
1. Allow Samsung Health to share the categories you need
- On the Android phone, open Settings, search for Health Connect, and open App permissions.
- Select Samsung Health and allow access to the categories you want shared, such as steps, distance, energy burned, exercise, heart rate or sleep where supported. Check both read and write access as appropriate; permission to read data is not permission to write it.
- Open Samsung Health after granting access. Samsung’s Health Connect guidance says to launch Samsung Health after permissions are granted. If Samsung Health requests consent to process health and wellness data, review and provide it if you want data sharing. The setting may appear under Samsung Health → More options → Settings → Consent to the processing of health and wellness data; its wording or location can vary by region and app version. See Samsung Health Connect FAQ and Google’s connected health data guidance.
2. Connect Google Fit to Health Connect
- Open Google Fit on the phone and tap Profile → Settings.
- Find the Health Connect section, turn on Sync Fit with Health Connect, and grant Google Fit access to the categories it should read or write. If the control or wording differs, check Fit’s Health Connect instructions: Google Fit and Health Connect.
3. Test the whole chain
- Open Samsung Health, then Health Connect, then Google Fit.
- Record a new short walk or workout and leave the phone connected to the internet.
- Allow time for synchronization before judging the result. Samsung says watch-to-phone sync timing is managed partly to conserve battery, so a delay alone does not prove that the connection has failed.
If steps are missing, check the steps permissions for Samsung Health and Google Fit individually in Health Connect. Repeat for each missing category. Also check whether the source app is writing that kind of record at all; a permission cannot transfer a record that the source does not provide.

If Samsung Health is not receiving the watch data
Do not troubleshoot Fit or Health Connect until a recent watch record appears in Samsung Health on the phone.
- Open Galaxy Wearable and confirm the Watch 4 appears connected. Keep Bluetooth on and the watch powered on; leave restricted watch-only or power-saving modes while testing.
- Open Samsung Health on the phone and allow it to receive the latest watch records. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance says the watch and phone need a Galaxy Wearable Bluetooth connection and recommends standard power mode when investigating Samsung Health sync problems: Samsung Health sync troubleshooting.
- If the record is on the watch but Samsung Health has not refreshed, try Samsung Health → Settings → Sync with Samsung account → Sync now. This refreshes Samsung account data; it is separate from Samsung Health’s Health Connect permissions.
- Restart the watch and phone, then open Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health again. If the watch still will not transfer records, resolve that connection before changing Fit settings.
Why some metrics may never appear in Google Fit
A working connection does not mean every Samsung Health metric or level of detail is shared. Google lists categories that may be available from Samsung Galaxy Watch connections, including total steps, distance, energy burned, sleep duration and stages, exercise summaries, heart rate, blood oxygen, VO2 max and body measurements. Availability depends on the source app, device, permissions, account and region.
Google also notes that floors climbed, skin temperature, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability, breathing rate, some detailed exercise records and health alerts such as ECG or irregular-rhythm data may not be shared or available in the destination app. A source may provide a summary rather than raw or minute-by-minute records. Check Google’s list of connected health data and limitations for category-specific details.

Do not expect identical step totals, calories, sleep scores or workout durations across Samsung Health and Fit. Apps can calculate values using different data and methods, and Google cautions that device and app values can differ.
Other causes of delayed or confusing results
Background battery restrictions
If syncing repeatedly stalls while the apps work when opened, check battery settings for Samsung Health, Google Fit, Galaxy Wearable and, if exposed, Health Connect. Try the least restrictive available option, such as Unrestricted or Allow background usage. This is a general Android troubleshooting measure, not a guaranteed fix; menus differ by phone.
Duplicate steps
Samsung Health, Fit and the phone may each contribute overlapping records. In Health Connect, review which apps can write the relevant category. Avoid enabling multiple writers for the same metric unless you understand how the receiving app handles overlapping data.

Older records
Do not assume enabling Health Connect will backfill every historical Samsung Health record into Fit. Test ongoing sync with a new activity; historical transfer is a separate need, and the native path does not promise complete backfill.
App naming during Google’s 2026 transition
Google says the Fitbit app became the Google Health app beginning May 19, 2026, and that Google Fit users would be migrated later in 2026. The transition is ongoing, so the app or account experience may depend on when you read this. Google Fit and Google Health should not be treated as interchangeable names for every setting; check Google’s transition guidance and announcement if the app on your phone has changed.

- Do not look for a direct Samsung Health–Google Fit switch. Samsung says direct synchronization is unavailable; use Health Connect for the supported intermediary route.
- Do not factory-reset the watch as a first step. First establish that the watch reaches Samsung Health and that the required Health Connect categories are permitted. A reset can create a new pairing problem without fixing a missing or unsupported data path.
- Do not assume every metric or past record will transfer. Confirm support for the category and test with a new record.
If you need historical transfer or app combinations beyond the native Health Connect route, a third-party bridge such as Health Sync is an option to evaluate. Its listing describes a one-week trial followed by a one-time purchase or six-month subscription; the price varies by Play Store account and region. The listing also says Samsung does not allow partner apps to write steps back into Samsung Health, so it is not unrestricted two-way syncing.
