The Google Pixel Watch 4 launched in the U.S. on August 20, 2025, with a brighter display, longer claimed battery life, faster charging, technician-replaceable display and battery, and satellite emergency communication on LTE models—all at the same launch prices as the Pixel Watch 3. The entry price was $349.99 for the 41mm Wi‑Fi model; that is not the price of every version. As of August 2026, Google has announced the Pixel Watch 5, so the Watch 4 is best judged as a previous-generation model whose value depends on its current discount.

In short: the Pixel Watch 4 was a more meaningful upgrade than its familiar round design suggested. Its brightest improvements are the larger, much brighter display, better manufacturer-rated battery life, quicker charging, and the move toward repairable components. It remains a daily-charging Wear OS watch rather than a multi-day endurance champion, and its AI and health features have phone, region, or subscription limits.

Google announced the watch alongside the Pixel 10 series on August 20, 2025; preorders opened that day and retail availability began October 9, 2025. Google announced the Pixel Watch 5 on August 12, 2026, with store availability reported for August 20, 2026. The Watch 4 is therefore no longer Google’s newest watch. Current Pixel Watch 5 coverage provides context, but check Google’s live store and retailers for actual Watch 4 stock and pricing.

Pixel Watch 4 U.S. launch prices and configurations

Model U.S. launch price
41mm Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth $349.99
41mm LTE $449.99
45mm Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth $399.99
45mm LTE $499.99

These matched the corresponding Pixel Watch 3 launch prices, according to Google’s launch announcement and launch reporting. “Same price” means configuration-for-configuration U.S. launch MSRP—not that every model cost $349.99. Google’s product page lists the Watch 4 from $349.99, but street prices, stock, and offers can change.

  • The Google Pixel Watch 4 is a stunning display of precision craftsmanship, with Gemini, your built-in AI assistant, Google’s longest-lasting battery, and comprehensive tools for next-level health and fitness performance[1,2,3,4]
  • See it all and do the most with the Actua 360 domed display; it’s 10% larger and 50% brighter than Pixel Watch 3, and as durable as ever with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass[1]
  • The Google Pixel Watch 4 has Gemini built in[4]; just ask questions and your ultra capable AI assistant will deliver quick responses for personalized help; and stay connected when you’re texting with AI-powered quick replies that are hyper-relevant[5,6]
  • Get up to 30 hours of battery life or up to 48 hours in Battery Saver mode[3]; plus, the new side charging dock gives you 15 hours of battery in 15 minutes or less[7]
  • Train smarter with 40+ exercise modes and real-time stats on your wrist[8]; and with high-precision dual-frequency GPS, you get more accurate route tracking on runs and hikes[1]

Both case sizes come in Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth and LTE versions. Wi‑Fi is the sensible lower-cost option if your phone is usually with you. LTE adds standalone cellular connectivity when supported by your carrier and plan, and it is also the hardware requirement for the watch’s satellite emergency feature.

Google’s current watch comparison page gives the Watch 4’s display-area and battery comparisons. Treat runtime figures as manufacturer estimates, not guarantees.

A brighter display in a familiar-looking watch

The Watch 4 keeps the Pixel Watch’s round silhouette but uses a domed Actua 360 LTPO AMOLED panel. Both sizes have 320 pixels per inch, a responsive 1–60Hz refresh range, up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, and a 1-nit minimum always-on brightness. The glass is custom 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and the case is 100% recycled aluminum. The active display area is 10% larger than on Watch 3, with bezels 16% smaller.

The cases are 12.3mm thick. Without a band, the 41mm weighs 31g and the 45mm 36.7g. Those specifications are listed in Google’s technical specifications. The screen changes are most useful outdoors or during exercise, when glancing at a bright, readable display matters. The larger active area helps, but this is not a radically larger watch. Nor does a domed panel by itself establish that the glass is more durable than a flat screen.

Battery life and charging: better, but still plan around charging

Google rates the 41mm model for up to 30 hours and the 45mm for up to 40 hours with the always-on display enabled. In Battery Saver, launch reporting cited up to 48 hours for 41mm and 72 hours for 45mm. Google’s support comparison has also prominently shown a 36-hour Battery Saver figure in a different comparison context; these mode- and source-specific numbers should not be treated as one universal guarantee.

Google says 15 minutes on the Quick Charge Dock can provide up to 15 hours of use. Launch coverage estimated roughly 15 minutes to reach 50%, 25–30 minutes to 80%, and 45–60 minutes for a full charge, depending on case size. The dock uses USB-C, but a 30W power adapter is not included. See the Google Store product page for Google’s current headline claims.

Actual runtime varies with LTE, GPS workouts, screen brightness, notifications, temperature, sleep tracking, and always-on behavior. If you want the longest runtime between charges, the 45mm is the better Watch 4 choice, but its extra size and weight may not suit smaller wrists. Neither size should be mistaken for a multi-day watch under typical full-feature use.

Repairability is a meaningful ownership change

Google designed the Watch 4 so repair technicians can replace its display and battery. Google said replacement batteries would be available at launch and for up to two years after the product reaches end of life. This is a welcome shift for a device with a sealed, compact design, but repairable does not mean intended for DIY disassembly.

Before treating repairability as a guarantee of a cheap fix, check local authorized service options, parts and labor pricing, and whether a repair restores water resistance. A replaceable component does not mean every cracked or water-damaged watch can be repaired economically. The practical gain is that repair is now a designed possibility, rather than an assumption owners should make about earlier generations.

Wear OS 6, Gemini, and Fitbit features

The Watch 4 launched with Wear OS 6 and Google’s Material 3 Expressive interface, including more expressive tiles, richer notifications, edge-hugging buttons, and shape-changing lists. Hardware includes a Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform, a Cortex-M55 co-processor, 2GB RAM, and 32GB storage.

  • The new Google Pixel Watch 5 offers a smarter way to a healthier you.[1,2]; Designed for Gemini Intelligence, get proactive help, and personalized insights from Google Health[3,4]; watch is compatible with Android devices only; not compatible with iOS devices
  • Precision-crafted to do it all: The Google Pixel Watch 5 features the domed Actua 360 display with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass and up to 40 hours of battery life[1,5]
  • Metrics that matter: Advanced sensors help you stay ahead of your health and wellness; and Google Pixel’s most accurate heart rate tracking is fine-tuned for your activity[6,7]
  • Understand your sleep like never before: Your watch captures insights like the time spent in sleep stages to breathing regularity, then summarizes it all in a personalized Sleep Score[8,9]
  • Detects loss of pulse, then calls for help: Pixel Watch 5 is the only smartwatch to feature Loss of Pulse Detection, which can prompt a call to emergency services[10]

Raise-to-talk offers access to Gemini from the wrist. Google also introduced AI-powered activity recognition intended to detect, classify, and summarize workouts automatically. Smart Replies have been reported to require a Pixel 8 or newer Pixel phone, so do not assume every feature works identically with every Android handset. Some AI capabilities may also depend on region, language, account, app version, or rollout.

Fitbit supplies the health and fitness platform, with heart-rate monitoring, sleep and sleep-stage tracking, skin-temperature sensing, cEDA (electrodermal activity) sensing, ECG-related electrical-sensor capability, automatic activity recognition, running tools, workout building, real-time guidance, form metrics, and dual-frequency GPS. The watch also supports fall detection and emergency features. Sensor availability does not mean every regulated function is enabled in every country; ECG, blood-oxygen functionality, and other health capabilities can vary by region. These are wellness tools, not a medical diagnosis.

Google has promoted a Personal AI Coach alongside the redesigned Fitbit experience. Coaching and related AI features are tied to Fitbit’s subscription ecosystem, and the available feature entitlements can change. Check Google’s current product information and the live Fitbit or Google Health plan terms before assuming a specific coach feature is included without a paid subscription. Google has indicated that some software features might reach older watches, but has not committed to a timeline for all of them; AI is not exclusively a Watch 4 hardware benefit.

Satellite emergency communication: LTE hardware only

The Watch 4’s standalone satellite emergency communication is available on LTE models, not Wi‑Fi-only versions. It is intended to connect users with emergency responders, share location, and request assistance when cellular service is unavailable. Launch reporting said access was included for two years at no additional charge, with possible paid service later. Confirm current terms and availability for your country before relying on it.

This is an emergency feature, not ordinary satellite texting and not a replacement for a dedicated satellite communicator. Access depends on location, conditions, and supported emergency services. The LTE model is required even if you do not keep an active cellular plan for everyday use, but cellular calling and data away from your phone may require carrier activation and recurring service costs.

Which Pixel Watch 4 size and connection should you choose?

  • Choose 41mm if you have a smaller wrist, want the lighter and less conspicuous option, or are comfortable with the shorter battery rating.
  • Choose 45mm if you prefer a larger display, want the longer battery estimate, or track sleep and would like more time between charges. It is heavier and may feel too large on a small wrist.
  • Choose Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth if you normally carry your phone and want to avoid LTE hardware’s higher initial price and potential carrier fee.
  • Choose LTE if you run, hike, or commute without your phone and want standalone connectivity; it is also the version that includes the satellite emergency capability.

For general Android compatibility, launch specifications list Android 11 or newer, a Google account, and the Pixel Watch app. The watch does not work with iPhones. Some features are Pixel-phone-specific, and LTE availability depends on carrier and country support.

Should you buy the Watch 4, a discounted Watch 3, or something else?

Buy the Pixel Watch 4 if…

  • You want the closest Google and Fitbit integration on Android, particularly with a Pixel phone.
  • You are upgrading from the first or second Pixel Watch and value the screen, battery, charging, and repair changes together.
  • You want the LTE-only satellite emergency capability and have checked local availability.
  • You can find the Watch 4 at a substantial discount relative to the newer Watch 5.

Consider the Pixel Watch 3 if…

  • It is meaningfully cheaper than the Watch 4.
  • Your main needs are notifications, payments, maps, and everyday Fitbit tracking.
  • You already charge daily and do not need the brighter display, faster charging, repairability, or satellite emergency option.

The smaller the price gap, the easier it is to justify the Watch 4’s hardware improvements. If the Watch 3 is deeply discounted and your use is basic, it can be the better value. Compare actual current prices rather than relying on launch MSRP.

Compare the Pixel Watch 5 before buying new

Because Google announced the Pixel Watch 5 in August 2026, a buyer paying close to full price should compare it with the new model’s actual store availability, features, and price. The Watch 4 can still make sense if discounted or if its feature set meets your needs; the supplied launch-era facts do not establish a complete Watch 5 specification comparison.

Look beyond Pixel watches when your priorities differ

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch: worth comparing for Samsung-phone owners and people who want Samsung ecosystem integration. Some health features may be limited or optimized for Samsung phones. Check the current generation and price at Samsung’s watch store.
  • OnePlus Watch 3: a sensible alternative if battery endurance outweighs Pixel-specific Fitbit integration; compare current details at OnePlus.
  • Apple Watch: for iPhone owners, not an Android-compatible alternative. See Apple’s store.

The launch verdict, viewed from 2026

At launch, the Pixel Watch 4 offered a persuasive upgrade without raising like-for-like U.S. prices: its display, battery estimates, charging, repair design, and LTE safety option addressed more practical ownership concerns than a routine processor refresh would. Today, the decision is less about whether it improved on Watch 3 and more about how its live price compares with the Pixel Watch 5 and discounted older models. Favor the Watch 4 when its repairability, brighter screen, faster charging, or LTE emergency feature matters; favor a cheaper Watch 3 for basic smartwatch use, or consider a battery-first alternative if daily charging is a deal-breaker.
