Short answer: Pixel Watch 4 is a capable everyday smartwatch for Android users, but it is not a like-for-like Apple Watch Ultra 3 replacement. Pixel Watch 4 needs a compatible Android phone; Apple Watch Ultra 3 needs a compatible iPhone. The Apple watch is also built for a different job, with a titanium case, 100-meter water-resistance rating and recreational-diving features. This guide covers the current Google-documented Pixel Watch 4: what is in its box, how to pair it, and which watch makes sense for your phone and activities.
What comes in the Pixel Watch 4 box?
Google lists the Pixel Watch 4, an Active Band, a Quick Charge Dock and a Quick Start Guide in the retail package. The band includes small and large options. A wall power adapter is not listed among those contents, so plan to use a compatible USB power source you already own or check the exact package listing for your region and retailer.
Google’s listed contents do not distinguish LTE from Bluetooth/Wi-Fi models by accessory. Connectivity choice changes how the watch can connect away from your phone, not the basic setup essentials. Confirm the package contents on the listing for the exact size, connectivity variant and country you are buying; older first-generation Pixel Watch unboxing videos are not evidence of what comes with Pixel Watch 4.

Pixel Watch 4 at a glance: 41mm or 45mm?
The 41mm model is the smaller, lighter choice; the 45mm version has more battery capacity. Both have an aluminum case, Wear OS 6.0, 32GB storage, 2GB memory, dual-frequency GPS, and 5 ATM and IP68 ratings. Google rates battery life at “up to” figures, not guaranteed everyday results.
| Specification | 41mm | 45mm |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. starting price listed by Google | $349.99 | $399.99 |
| Case diameter / thickness | 41mm / 12.3mm | 45mm / 12.3mm |
| Weight without band | 31.0g | 36.7g |

Specifications and U.S. list prices are from Google’s Pixel Watch 4 specifications; prices and promotions can change. Battery life varies with settings and use, including LTE, GPS, workouts, display behavior, notifications, temperature and signal quality. The watch has a crown and side button; its underside carries the health and activity sensors.
Google lists an optical heart-rate sensor, ECG-compatible electrical sensors, red and infrared sensors for SpO2 monitoring, skin-temperature and cEDA sensors, plus motion and environmental sensors including an accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, altimeter and barometer. Sensor presence does not mean every feature is available in every country or account, nor that readings are medical diagnoses. Availability and any subscription requirements depend on the feature and region.

Check phone compatibility before unboxing
Pixel Watch 4 works with most Android phones running Android 11 or newer. Setup requires a Google Account, the Google Pixel Watch app and an internet connection through Wi-Fi or mobile data. Android Go edition is not supported, and Pixel Watch is not designed to pair with an iPhone. Google’s setup guide has the current requirements and screens.
Apple Watch Ultra 3 requires an iPhone 11 or later, including iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later, running iOS 26 or newer, according to Apple’s specifications. Neither watch is a practical cross-platform alternative to the other. If you are considering switching from iPhone to Android, the phone change—not just the watch—is the key decision.
Set up and pair Pixel Watch 4
Before you start
- Charge the phone and watch, and attach the band.
- Install or update the Google Pixel Watch app and update the phone’s software.
- Turn on Bluetooth and location permissions; connect the phone to Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Have your Google Account sign-in ready.
Turn on the watch by holding the crown for about three seconds. Keep it close to the phone while pairing. Google recommends a distance of 0.5 metres (1.6 feet) or less for Fast Pair.

- The new Google Pixel Watch 5 offers a smarter way to a healthier you.[1,2]; Designed for Gemini Intelligence, get proactive help, and personalized insights from Google Health[3,4]; watch is compatible with Android devices only; not compatible with iOS devices
- Precision-crafted to do it all: The Google Pixel Watch 5 features the domed Actua 360 display with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass and up to 40 hours of battery life[1,5]
- Metrics that matter: Advanced sensors help you stay ahead of your health and wellness; and Google Pixel’s most accurate heart rate tracking is fine-tuned for your activity[6,7]
- Understand your sleep like never before: Your watch captures insights like the time spent in sleep stages to breathing regularity, then summarizes it all in a personalized Sleep Score[8,9]
- Detects loss of pulse, then calls for help: Pixel Watch 5 is the only smartwatch to feature Loss of Pulse Detection, which can prompt a call to emergency services[10]
Pairing steps
- Place the watch beside the Android phone. Accept the Fast Pair prompt if it appears. If it does not, open the Google Pixel Watch app yourself and choose the option to set up a watch.
- Select your Pixel Watch when it appears. Check that the pairing code on the phone matches the one on the watch, then tap Pair.
- Sign in to your Google Account and accept the terms. Select the purchase country when asked for warranty purposes.
- Choose whether to restore a backup or select Don’t restore. Set the wrist you will wear the watch on and the crown orientation.
- Choose Start using your watch or Set up more. Follow the prompts for optional services and features such as Fitbit/Google Health, LTE, safety settings, Gemini, screen lock, Wallet and additional apps.
- Leave the watch near the phone while it downloads or installs software. An initial update can extend setup, and apps may continue installing after pairing appears complete.
When pairing succeeds, the Pixel Watch app should show Connected. If it shows Disconnected, or the watch restarts to install an update, give the process time to finish before deciding setup has failed.
Recommended Free Tools
If pairing fails
- Make sure the watch is charged, the phone and watch software are current, Bluetooth is on, and location and Wi-Fi are enabled.
- Move the phone within 0.5 metres (1.6 feet) of the watch and retry the Fast Pair prompt. If it does not appear, use the Pixel Watch app.
- If the codes on the two screens do not match, do not approve the pairing. Restart both devices and try again.
- To restart the watch, hold the crown for about three seconds, scroll to Restart, tap it and wait for the watch to finish rebooting. Then retry pairing.
- If the same problem remains, use Google’s Pixel Watch setup and phone-pairing troubleshooting guide rather than repeating the same failed step.
A managed Google Workspace account may require Device Management to be disabled. In some regions, the Pixel Watch app may not appear in Google Play if the Google Account’s address is in an unsupported region. For LTE, check that the carrier supports the watch and that activation requirements are met; Google says the watch and phone generally need to use the same carrier. Watch Unlock also has limits: it requires a screen lock on the watch and a compatible Pixel phone, and Google says setup can take 24–48 hours. See Google’s Watch Unlock requirements and LTE guidance.

The Ultra 3 is the more purpose-built option for someone who needs a titanium case, a larger rugged watch, diving capability, dust resistance, a siren and Apple’s outdoor safety features. Pixel Watch 4 is the more natural match for an Android owner who wants Google services and a smaller, lighter conventional smartwatch. Its 45mm version has a higher manufacturer-rated battery ceiling than the 41mm version; do not interpret that as an independent battery test or assume either model lasts the same amount of time for every wearer.
A 5 ATM rating is not the same thing as a 100m rating or permission to use a watch as a dive computer. Follow the manufacturer’s activity guidance; avoid calling either watch “waterproof.” Likewise, dual-frequency GPS is a technical specification, not proof that one watch is more accurate in real-world conditions.

- You use Android and want a daily smartwatch: Pixel Watch 4 is the relevant choice of these two. Pick 41mm for a smaller case and lower weight, or 45mm if its larger fit and higher rated battery life suit you.
- You use an iPhone: Apple Watch Ultra 3 is compatible; Pixel Watch 4 is not. If you do not need Ultra-level ruggedness or dive functions, compare Apple Watch Series models as well.
- You dive or prioritize rugged outdoor use: Ultra 3 has the clearer case on the listed construction, water rating and diving features, provided you use an iPhone. If your phone is Android, consider an Android-compatible rugged watch or a Garmin rather than treating Pixel Watch as an Ultra substitute.
- You want Google’s apps, account integration and Fitbit/Google Health ecosystem: Pixel Watch 4 fits that Android use case. Check the availability and terms for the specific health feature you want.
- You are switching phone ecosystems just for the watch: Think through the broader phone and app transition first. Buying the other watch alone will not make the ecosystems interchangeable.
Before purchase, verify your phone’s software version, wrist fit, LTE carrier support, country availability for health and emergency features, and whether advanced coaching or insights require a subscription. Also check band compatibility by model and size. U.S. prices above are Google’s listed starting prices; promotions and optional plans change, so confirm current costs with the manufacturer.
Bottom line
Pixel Watch 4 is a sensible Android smartwatch, not a smaller Apple Watch Ultra. It covers the setup, Google-service and everyday-wear side of the decision; Ultra 3 is the stronger match for a compatible iPhone owner who wants a rugged, dive-capable outdoor watch. Phone compatibility decides between them first, and intended use decides what to buy within that ecosystem.
