Google began rolling out the July 2024 Pixel Watch update on July 1 to the first-generation Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 running Wear OS 4. The release, listed globally as TWD9.240705.001.A1, was primarily a security update—not a major feature upgrade. Google phased availability by carrier and device, with the rollout expected to continue for about a week.
What the July 2024 Pixel Watch update included
Google’s rollout announcement described the update as delivering the latest security patches. It did not announce new watch faces, health tools, or major interface changes. The dedicated July 2024 Pixel Watch security bulletin says devices on the July 5, 2024 security patch level or later address the applicable issues covered by that bulletin. The bulletin was published on July 16, after the rollout announcement; those dates refer to separate announcement and bulletin events.
The broader Android security bulletin for July lists issues across platform and component areas, but that list should not be read as a claim that every listed vulnerability affected every Pixel Watch. For the watch-specific security details, use the Pixel Watch bulletin.

Pixel Watch 3 was announced later in August 2024 and launched in September, so it was not part of this historical July rollout.

Build number and how to check your watch
Google listed the global software version as TWD9.240705.001.A1. Some contemporaneous coverage and support references show TWD9.240705.001, without the .A1 suffix. Treat these as related entries in the same release family; a suffix difference alone does not prove that a watch missed the update. Check the displayed security update date as well as the software version.
- Open Settings on the watch.
- Open the system or software-update section and check for updates.
- Review the displayed software version/build and security update date. Menu wording can vary with software version and device language.
- For the July release, compare the build with
TWD9.240705.001orTWD9.240705.001.A1, and look for a security patch level of July 5, 2024 or later.

Why the update might not have appeared right away
This was a staged over-the-air rollout, not a simultaneous release to every watch. Google said timing could vary by carrier and device, and expected the rollout to continue over roughly the following week. LTE and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth variants could therefore receive it at different times. A download or installation that is still preparing can also take time, and a watch already on the equivalent build family may not present itself as needing the update.

Keep the watch near its paired Android phone if you are using the companion app to start the process. Let installation finish without interrupting it; the watch may be temporarily unavailable while it updates. These are sensible precautions, not special requirements stated in Google’s rollout announcement.

Did it fix battery drain or random reboots?
Google did not describe a battery-life or reboot fix in the release announcement. Owners commenting in Google’s support thread reported mixed experiences: some said battery life improved, while others continued to report random reboots. Those observations are anecdotal, not controlled testing or confirmation from Google that the update fixed either problem. If your watch had battery or reboot trouble, do not assume this security release resolved it.
If the update seems stuck
- Restart the watch normally, then check the update screen again.
- Make sure the watch has sufficient charge and allow time for the staged rollout or any update preparation to finish.
- Update the Google Pixel Watch companion app and retry if you are using it to initiate the update.
- Check the installed build and security patch date before assuming the update is missing.
- Contact Google Pixel Watch support if installation repeatedly fails, the watch reboots continuously, or it becomes unresponsive.
A factory reset should not be the first response to a delayed OTA: it erases locally stored settings and may not address a rollout delay.

Not the July Pixel phone update—or Wear OS 5
Pixel Watch updates have their own announcement and security bulletin; the phone update and its bulletins are not interchangeable with the watch release. The July Pixel Watch OTA also was not Wear OS 5. Google began rolling Wear OS 5 to the original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 in September 2024, a separate update that later drew reports of boot-loop and soft-brick problems. That later rollout should not be conflated with this July security release.
