Verdict: Google’s Performance Loop is a well-made, finely adjustable fabric band that makes sense for runners and gym users who want a snug fit without silicone. Its main drawback is value: a review assessed it at $60, and the Pixel Watch 3 already includes two Active Band sizes. Buy it for the first-party fit, materials and color matching—not because it unlocks better watch features. 9to5Google’s review praised its construction but questioned its price.
What the Performance Loop is—and what you pay for
This is Google’s fabric sport band, not simply a decorative woven strap. Google specifies recycled polyester, nylon and elastane yarns, stainless-steel lugs and a micro-adjustable fastening system. The stretch and fine adjustment are intended to help keep the watch snug during exercise. Google calls it “workout-friendly”; that is not the same as a published swim rating or proof that it is waterproof. The premium buys official connectors, Google’s coordinated finishes and colors, and a closure that can be adjusted in smaller increments than a conventional band with fixed holes. It does not add watch functionality, and Google does not publish a quantified durability rating for the band.
Comfort and workout fit
A fabric band can feel less sticky against the skin than a silicone-style strap, while the Performance Loop’s micro-adjustment lets you fine-tune tension instead of choosing between two holes that feel too tight or too loose. That is useful for exercise, when a stable fit matters and wrist circumference can change. Google advises wearing the watch snugly for optimal performance; a band alone cannot guarantee more accurate readings. Sensor contact, placement and movement still matter.
The independent review described the construction as solid, noting a tougher inner surface and softer fabric around the fastening area. That supports a positive impression of the materials, but it cannot establish that every wearer will find the band comfortable. Fit and skin sensitivity vary. The closure’s hook-and-loop area or strap overlap may bother some people, particularly during sleep, and fabric may hold moisture longer than a wipe-clean band. If you need a strap that dries quickly after a sweaty session, silicone is likely more convenient.

For running, strength training or intervals, secure the closure properly and check that the watch does not rotate or shift on your wrist. A micro-adjustable fit is a practical advantage, not a guarantee against accidental loosening. Google’s “workout-friendly” description also does not establish suitability for chlorine, salt water or repeated soaking.

Measure around your wrist where the watch will sit, rather than around the widest part of your hand. Google advises sizing up if you are between sizes or unsure. If your wrist is near either range limit, pay particular attention to how much fastening overlap remains and whether the fit feels secure without being tight. A too-tight fit can be uncomfortable or irritate skin; below the listed minimum, do not assume the band will adjust enough.
The 41mm and 45mm versions are not interchangeable just because the fabric looks alike. Google lists compatibility with Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 in 41mm, and Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Watch 4 in both 41mm and 45mm. These watches use Google’s specified connectors, so generic band-width language is not enough to confirm a fit. Each band is sold separately; check the listing for your exact generation and case size.
Colors and construction
On Google’s US listing, 41mm options are Obsidian with Matte Black lugs, Porcelain with Polished Silver, Wintergreen with Champagne Gold, Peony with Polished Silver, and Moonstone with Polished Silver. For 45mm, the listed options are Obsidian with Matte Black, Porcelain with Polished Silver, Peony with Polished Silver, and Moonstone with Moonstone lugs. Google describes the broader Performance Loop range as six colorways, but not every color is offered in every size. Availability can vary by region and inventory.
The recycled-fabric construction and stainless-steel lugs are reassuring specifications, and the reviewer’s assessment of the materials was positive. They do not prove a particular lifespan or superiority over every third-party band. Fabric can collect sweat, oils, lint and dirt; hook-and-loop fastening can gather debris or lose grip, and stretch materials may relax with use. Watch for fraying, odor, a weakening closure or looseness at the connectors. Google does not provide a specific service-life figure in the cited product information.
Care, sweat and swimming
Google identifies the band as workout-friendly, but the product information cited here does not give a complete cleaning schedule. Check Google’s current care guidance before using soap, disinfectant, machine washing or heat. Remove the band from the watch before cleaning and let the fabric dry fully before wearing it again. Do not treat “workout-friendly” as permission to expose it to chlorine, salt water, detergents or high heat without checking the care instructions.

The Pixel Watch 3 includes small and large Active Bands, making them the no-extra-cost baseline. Google describes the Active Band as fluoroelastomer with a soft-touch coating. The choice is mainly about material and adjustment, not a categorical difference in tracking accuracy.

If the Active Band fits comfortably and you do not mind its feel, the Performance Loop is an optional upgrade, not a necessary replacement. If fixed holes make it difficult to get a stable fit or silicone feels unpleasant, the Loop’s finer adjustment and fabric surface may justify the extra spend.
Is $60 too much?
9to5Google assessed the Performance Loop at $60 in its February 2025 review and found the value hard to justify against cheaper bands with a similar basic design. That figure is a dated price reference, not a guarantee of the current price: check the live Google Store listing in your region before buying.

A lower-cost third-party fabric loop may offer the same broad idea—textile material and adjustable fastening—for much less. But similar appearance does not mean identical hardware: connector tolerances, lug material, fit, finish, color match and return support can vary. That does not make every third-party band unsafe or every official one flawless; it means the official option buys a more predictable first-party fit and finish, not proven longer life.
If considering a third-party alternative, confirm the exact watch generation and case size, wrist range, connector and lug material, closure, return policy and recent reports of loose or broken connectors. Make sure the lugs sit flush before relying on it for workouts.
Who should buy it?
- Buy it if you run or train regularly, want a finely adjustable snug fit, dislike silicone, and value official connectors and matching finishes enough to pay a premium.
- Skip it if the included Active Band works for you, your main goal is the lowest-cost replacement, or you need a strap that is especially easy to clean and dry.
- Look elsewhere if you dislike hook-and-loop closures, your wrist is outside Google’s range, or you need a band for swimming without first confirming its water-care limits.
Google also sells alternatives such as the Woven Band for a fabric look with an adjustable clasp, and a Gradient Stretch Band aimed at everyday and overnight wear. Check current compatibility and price before ordering; their intended use and closure differ from the Performance Loop’s workout-focused adjustment.
