Google made its Clock app for Wear OS exclusive to Pixel Watch in October 2025. On other Wear OS watches, the app is no longer available for new installation through the Play Store and existing copies no longer receive Play Store updates. Google says an already-installed copy can still be used; it did not remotely uninstall the app from every non-Pixel watch.
What Google changed
In an announcement posted on October 30, 2025, and edited the following day, Google said its Wear OS Clock app—used for alarms, timers and stopwatch functions—would no longer be available to download on watches other than Pixel Watch. Google’s stated reason was that watch brands already provide their own default clock apps. It has not given a more detailed technical or commercial explanation. Google’s announcement
The wording matters: this is a restriction on new downloads and updates, not a universal remote uninstall. Google says non-Pixel owners who already have the app can continue using it, but will not receive Play Store updates for it. A future watch software update could create compatibility problems, but Google has not promised that existing copies will keep working indefinitely.

Google’s notice sets the policy by Pixel versus non-Pixel watch; it does not provide a model-by-model, software-version or regional compatibility list. Actual Play Store visibility can depend on the device and account. Samsung, OnePlus and Mobvoi owners are representative affected groups, not proof that every model behaves identically. If you already have Google Clock on your watch
If it works and you rely on it, there is no need to remove it just because new downloads have been restricted. Avoid uninstalling it as a troubleshooting step until you have checked that a replacement meets your needs. A factory reset or uninstall may leave you unable to restore Google Clock from the official Play Store on a non-Pixel watch.
Before resetting or changing watches, write down your alarms and recurring schedules, then test the watch maker’s clock app. Confirm whether each alarm is stored on the watch, on the phone, or mirrored between them. A phone notification about an alarm is not necessarily the same as a locally scheduled watch alarm. Alarm hand-off and synchronization can vary with the watch, companion app and setup, so test your own configuration rather than assuming it will continue—or stop—in every case.

What to use instead
Google’s advice is to use the watch maker’s default clock app or install another clock app from the Wear OS Play Store. Start with the built-in tools: Samsung Galaxy Watch owners can check Samsung’s clock, alarm, timer and stopwatch features; OnePlus and Mobvoi owners should check the apps bundled with their watches. First-party apps may integrate better with the watch’s controls and system modes, though the experience may differ from Google Clock, especially if you use a Pixel phone with another brand’s watch.

To find a third-party option, open the Play Store on the watch, tap Search, and try “alarm,” “timer,” “stopwatch” or “clock.” Check that the listing supports Wear OS, install it on the watch, and test vibration, sound, recurring alarms, tiles and complications before relying on it. When comparing alternatives, look for on-watch operation when the phone is out of range, the alarm behavior you need, convenient tiles or complications, and a recent maintenance history. Check permissions and any subscription requirements as well. Do not assume every app handles always-on displays, battery use, sound or vibration in the same way.
Does Google Clock still work on Android phones?
Yes. Google Clock remains listed on Google Play as an Android phone app, and its listing describes Wear OS features such as bringing alarms and timers to a watch. The phone app and watch component are separate compatibility questions: the listing’s continued existence does not mean a non-Pixel watch can install the wearable app or that updating the phone app will restore it. Some Wear OS help pages still refer to downloading or updating Clock for timer functions. That guidance can be out of step with the later availability announcement, so the watch Play Store’s compatibility result and Google’s October 2025 notice are more useful for this specific change. Can you sideload the app?
Some reports indicate that sideloading an APK may work on some watches, but it is not an officially supported or dependable substitute. Installation does not guarantee Play Store recognition, future updates, model or Wear OS compatibility, or normal phone-to-watch synchronization. For an alarm you depend on, use a supported app from the watch’s Play Store or its manufacturer instead of relying on an APK from an unverified source.
Quick checks before relying on a replacement
- Open the watch’s app list using its power button or crown and look for Clock, Alarm, Timer or Stopwatch. Menu labels vary by manufacturer. Wear OS app-list and installation basics
- Set a short test timer and a test alarm; check both vibration and sound, including with the phone disconnected if you need the watch to operate independently.
- Check behavior with Do Not Disturb, silent mode and Bedtime mode enabled. Do not assume alerts will behave the same across brands.
- Confirm whether a phone alarm is mirrored to the watch, separately from an alarm created directly on the watch.
- Before a reset, record alarms and verify you can reinstall your chosen replacement.

A wider shift in Google’s Wear OS apps
Google also announced a separate change to its built-in Weather app: it would no longer be offered on Wear OS 6 and newer watches other than Pixel Watch, with Pixel Watches receiving Pixel Weather. That is useful context for the Clock restriction, but it does not establish that both changes share the same technical or commercial cause. Google’s Weather-app announcement
