Halliday’s DigiWindow Glasses impressed at CES 2025 for a reason the display-free Ray-Ban Meta frames could not match: they put short text prompts in the wearer’s field of view. That made them more compelling for discreet reminders, translation and meeting notes—not a universal upgrade. Ray-Ban Meta remained the stronger fit for camera capture, calls, music and social sharing. As of August 2026, Halliday’s first-generation glasses are listed at $499 but out of stock.
What Halliday showed at CES 2025
The product previewed as Halliday Glasses is now marketed as Halliday DigiWindow Glasses. In its January 6, 2025 hands-on account, Laptop Mag described a small near-eye display that puts information in the upper-right area of the wearer’s vision. Halliday described the perceived image as roughly equivalent to a 3.5-inch screen; that is a product description, not a conventional screen measurement. Laptop Mag’s CES preview found the idea more exciting than the author’s Ray-Ban Meta frames.
The distinction is the point. DigiWindow is not a transparent, world-anchored overlay system like full augmented-reality glasses, nor a glasses-sized video screen like products from Xreal or Viture. It is a private viewing area for glanceable information. Halliday calls it an “invisible display”; more precisely, the company intends the display to be visible to the wearer without appearing as an obvious screen to people nearby. The physical lenses remain for ordinary vision and can be ordered with prescription correction. Halliday’s product page describes its optical approach, but the CES comparison does not establish that every wearer will find the display equally comfortable or readable.

Why the display changed the comparison
The display-free Ray-Ban Meta generation in the CES comparison is built around audio, voice interaction and camera capture. Halliday’s proposition was different: put a short prompt where the wearer can see it, instead of asking them to listen, pull out a phone or remember what an assistant said.

- Useful at a glance: reminders, navigation cues, notifications and short notes can be presented visually.
- More discreet assistance: a teleprompter or meeting cheat sheet can be viewed without holding a phone.
- Camera-free by design: no camera was identified in the CES product coverage, which may make Halliday more acceptable in camera-sensitive workplaces or settings.
- Alternative controls: Halliday offers temple controls and a separate control ring, according to its control guide.
The CES reviewer said the Ray-Ban Meta camera was one of the features he used least, while audio playback and Meta AI mattered more to him. That helps explain his personal preference; it does not show that Halliday is better for most owners. A camera-free design is valuable if recording is unwelcome, but it also means giving up first-person photos and video.
What Halliday’s AI was meant to do
The CES-era feature list included real-time translation, conversation transcription, audio memos, notifications, quick replies, notes, reminders, document or conversation assistance, navigation, teleprompter prompts, music lyrics and proactive suggestions based on audio context. Halliday also claimed support for as many as 40 languages. These were a mix of demonstrated and announced capabilities, not proof that every function worked reliably in shipping glasses under all conditions. The preview did not establish performance in noisy rooms, translation accuracy, offline operation or phone-independent use. Laptop Mag’s report is best read as a CES demonstration, not a long-term product test.

Halliday’s current support pages confirm iOS and Android compatibility over Bluetooth and list features including reminders, cheat-sheet content, voice memos, translation-language selection and AI-conversation history. The company’s phone compatibility information establishes platform support, but the available product information does not settle feature parity between iOS and Android, which functions work offline, or exactly what happens when the phone disconnects.
Where glanceable text could help
- Conversation: translation or transcription can be useful when a quick phrase or summary is enough. The CES language-count claim should not be taken as a guarantee of availability, latency or accuracy for every language.
- Meetings and speaking: a short outline, reminder or teleprompter prompt can be less conspicuous than checking a phone.
- Walking and errands: brief navigation cues and reminders are a more natural match for a small display than maps or long messages.
- Capturing thoughts: audio memos and summaries offer a hands-free alternative to typing, subject to microphone, connection and software behavior.
These are plausible use cases, not independent findings about reliability. The preview did not establish outdoor legibility, image stability while walking, comfort across prescriptions, translation latency or whether proactive suggestions can be reliably silenced when unwanted.

Halliday DigiWindow versus the display-free Ray-Ban Meta
This comparison is specifically between Halliday’s first-generation DigiWindow Glasses and the original, display-free Ray-Ban Meta generation discussed at CES 2025. Meta has since introduced a separate display-equipped product, so “Ray-Ban Meta” alone no longer identifies one display configuration. Meta’s 2025 display-glasses announcement describes a materially different product.

The battery figures are not a head-to-head result: Halliday’s is a manufacturer claim, and real endurance can change substantially with display use, translation, AI, Bluetooth audio and microphone activity. The table also compares the original display-free Ray-Ban Meta frames, not Meta’s later display-equipped model.

What a CES demo could not prove
A short hands-on preview can show why a concept is appealing; it cannot establish whether it is the better product to own. The CES coverage did not provide long-term testing of battery life, software reliability, support, production quality or retail availability. That distinction matters for a wearable whose value depends on its display being readable and its AI appearing at the right moment.

- Display: independent results for outdoor readability, walking stability, eye comfort and fit across different prescriptions are not established by the CES preview.
- AI and audio: the available coverage does not settle how often proactive AI mishears conversations, how well microphones handle restaurants or traffic, or how easily users can disable listening, transcription and cloud processing.
- Translation: the claimed language count is not evidence that all languages are available on shipping software or that translations are immediate, verbatim or usable without internet access.
- Battery: Halliday’s current support material claims up to 12 hours of regular use and up to three hours of intensive use. It does not provide a directly comparable independent test across display, translation, Bluetooth and continuous microphone workloads. Halliday’s FAQ gives the company’s stated figures.
- Privacy: the absence of a camera does not remove questions about microphones, phone permissions, account data, cloud processing or recorded conversation content. A buyer should check the current app and privacy terms before enabling transcription or proactive assistance.
Weight figures also differ by source and condition. Laptop Mag reported 35 grams in its 2025 preview; Halliday’s current product page lists 28.5 grams without lenses. The available information does not explain whether prototype changes, lens configuration or measurement methods account for the difference, so the figures should not be treated as directly comparable.

Availability and the 2026 buying picture
The CES 2025 article anticipated shipping around late March 2025 and cited an expected price range of roughly $399–$499, including a preorder offer. That forecast is historical, not a current delivery promise. Halliday now lists the first-generation DigiWindow at $499 and marks it out of stock on its official product page. The page also lists prescription lens upgrades and indicates that some variants may be unavailable or sold out, which can affect both cost and ordering.
Halliday’s support FAQ identifies the G2 as a separate, newer model: preorders are expected in late August 2026, starting at $599, with shipping expected in mid-September 2026. Those dates are prospective company estimates, not confirmation of retail stock or delivery. Check the G2 FAQ for the latest status, and do not assume G2 specifications or availability apply to the first-generation DigiWindow.
Which glasses make more sense for which buyer?
Consider Halliday DigiWindow if the display is the point
- You want glanceable text for prompts, reminders, navigation or translation rather than a camera.
- A camera-free design matters in your workplace or social settings, while you are still comfortable assessing microphone and cloud-AI privacy.
- You can wait for stock and accept the uncertainty that comes with a smaller, less established product ecosystem.
Choose display-free Ray-Ban Meta for camera and audio use
- You want first-person photos or video, calls, music, livestreaming or social sharing.
- You value a more established retail and companion-app ecosystem over a private text display.
- You mainly use smart glasses for voice interaction and audio rather than reading prompts.
Wait or evaluate the newer alternatives if neither comparison fits
If dependable delivery, tested display quality or long-term support is essential, the CES demonstration alone is not enough evidence to justify a purchase. Halliday G2 is a later product with its own prospective preorder and shipping window. Meta’s display-equipped glasses are also distinct from the display-free Ray-Ban Meta frames in the 2025 comparison. Compare the exact model, current availability and confirmed features rather than treating all smart glasses as interchangeable.
