Oura Ring 4 Ceramic changes how the ring looks, feels, and handles everyday surface wear, but it does not add new health-tracking technology. Its zirconia-ceramic exterior brings four jewelry-like colors and better resistance to fine scratches than coated titanium; the trade-off is a thicker, heavier ring that can still scuff or suffer impact damage. For existing Ring 4 owners, it is a style and material choice—not a performance upgrade.
What is different about Oura Ring 4 Ceramic?
The Ceramic Collection is a material variant of the Oura Ring 4, launched in October 2025. Its outer shell is high-performance zirconia ceramic, while the inner shell remains titanium and the sensors remain recessed on the inside of the ring. The four finishes are Cloud, Tide, Petal, and Midnight. Oura describes the surface as polished and glazed; the effect is more like a piece of colored jewelry than a conventional metallic wearable. That exterior is not just a color treatment. Ceramic changes the ring’s surface-wear behavior and its physical feel. But beneath the shell, this is still Ring 4: Oura has not identified a Ceramic-only sensor, health feature, or accuracy advantage.

The dimensions make the key compromise plain: Ceramic is about 0.63 mm thicker and heavier across the listed size range. That extra heft may feel substantial and jewelry-like to one wearer, but intrusive to someone who prefers the lighter standard ring—especially at night or during hands-on work. The profile is otherwise the same width, so the difference is chiefly thickness and mass, not a wider band. Oura’s Ring 4 specifications provide the comparison.

Color and finish are the point—and that can matter
Cloud is a soft off-white with a gray cast; Tide is a light blue-green; Petal is blush with lilac tones; and Midnight is a deep, cobalt-inspired blue. They give the Ring 4 a broader palette than metallic finishes and a glossier, ceramic-like look. Hands-on coverage has also noted that the polished surface can show fewer fingerprints than expected, though that is an observation rather than a guarantee for every wearer or finish. Appearance is not a trivial consideration for a device meant to stay on your hand. If a color and finish make you more willing to wear a tracker consistently, that could make it easier to collect continuous data. That is a practical possibility, not evidence that Ceramic improves readings or health outcomes.
More resistant to fine scratches, not indestructible
Zirconia ceramic is hard and can resist ordinary fine surface scratches better than a coated-metal finish. That does not make the ring scratch-proof or universally tougher than titanium. Oura’s care guidance warns that Ceramic can pick up scuffs from metal and hard objects, and softer metals can transfer color onto the surface. Drops, sharp impacts, stone, cookware, and gym equipment can also put the finish at risk.

Oura includes a Ceramic Polishing Pad for some daily-wear scuffs, but it should not be treated as a fix for every mark, chip, or impact. The company’s care guidance recommends removing the ring for weightlifting and high-friction work and avoiding direct contact with other rings, which can scratch one another. Clean it with mild soap and water; do not assume the water-resistance rating makes it immune to chemicals, abrasion, or impact. Wear-and-tear damage is not covered by Oura’s warranty. Tracking, battery, and membership are still Ring 4
Ceramic uses the same Smart Sensing platform and core sensor types as the standard Ring 4: green and infrared PPG sensors, red and infrared blood-oxygen sensors, a digital temperature sensor, and an accelerometer. It supports the same broad Oura app categories, including sleep, activity, readiness, stress, heart health, and women’s health. There is no documented Ceramic-specific improvement to accuracy, sensors, or metrics. Fit and sensor position still matter; Oura advises placing the sensors toward the palm side of the finger.
Oura lists the same typical five-to-eight-day battery range for both rings. Actual life varies with ring size, settings, enabled features, activity, battery age, and use. A charge typically takes about 20–80 minutes, depending on how depleted the battery is. The Ceramic product page lists water resistance to 100 meters (328 feet), but that rating should not be read as a promise of protection from every chemical, temperature, or impact exposure. The full Oura software experience also depends on Oura Membership. Check Oura’s membership page for current terms and pricing before buying; the recurring cost changes the long-term value calculation. The ring is not a smartwatch: it has no display, GPS, notifications, or live on-device workout controls.

Get the fit right before you buy
Ring 4 is sold in sizes 4 through 15, but sizing differs by generation. Use the Ring 4 sizing kit rather than guessing or relying on a kit from another Oura generation. A poor fit can undermine comfort and sensor positioning, and is an especially costly mistake on a ring priced in the hundreds. This matters for gifts, too: confirm the recipient’s size rather than estimating it. Oura says Ring 4 sizing guidance and kits are specific to that generation (support details).

On the official Ceramic product page checked on August 18, 2026, Oura showed a $499 list price and a $399 promotional price. Other Oura store listings showed different price states, so $399 should be treated as a dated promotion, not a permanent price or a price guaranteed across every finish. Check the product page for the price and availability where you are buying. Oura’s store also lists a charging case at $99 and a standard charger at $59; confirm charger size compatibility. Store policies and offers can change, so review the current store terms for returns, warranty, and any trial or HSA/FSA eligibility conditions.

The Ceramic premium is easiest to justify if you genuinely prefer these colors, want the jewelry-like finish, and accept the extra weight in exchange for better resistance to fine scratches. It is harder to justify if you want the lightest Ring 4, do frequent high-friction work, or are indifferent to the finish. Oura supports switching among multiple Ring 4 styles associated with an account, but a second ring is a style option, not an upgrade to the sensing platform.

Should you buy Ring 4 Ceramic in 2026?
As of August 18, 2026, Oura’s official store and support material also refer to Ring 5. That makes it important not to mistake Ring 4 Ceramic for Oura’s newest hardware. If you already own Ring 4, Ceramic makes sense as a style and material purchase, not a reason to expect better tracking. If you are new to Oura, compare it with the newer generation before choosing older hardware; a substantial discount may change the calculation, but only if Ceramic’s finish is what you want.

For shoppers who do not want a membership, need smartwatch controls, or want a one-time-cost wellness tracker, neither Ring 4 finish is a natural fit. For the Oura buyer who values appearance enough to wear a tracker more consistently, Ceramic offers a meaningful change in ownership experience—just not in what the ring measures.
