Use the Google Play Store to add apps to a Galaxy Watch4 or Watch4 Classic: install them on the watch itself, or use the connected Android phone. These watches run Wear OS powered by Samsung, not the Tizen platform used by older Galaxy watches. Watch4 setup requires a compatible Android phone; it cannot be set up with an iPhone or as a standalone watch. Samsung’s setup guide explains the requirements and both installation routes.
Before you install anything
- Confirm the model. These steps apply to the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic. Older Galaxy watches, including the Watch3 and earlier, use a different, Tizen-based app system.
- Set up with a compatible Android phone. Samsung lists Android 6.0 or later, at least 1.5 GB of RAM, and Google Mobile Services as its baseline. That baseline does not guarantee compatibility with every phone, app, country, carrier, or software version. Check Samsung’s current setup guidance and the app’s listing.
- Install Galaxy Wearable and complete pairing. Sign in to a Google account on the watch; setup may also ask you to sign in to a Samsung account. A phone connection is needed for the phone-based method.
- Get the watch online. Wi-Fi or LTE is needed to search for and download apps. For downloads started on the phone, keep the watch paired and nearby.
- Check storage and updates. The Watch4 has 16 GB of internal storage, but not all of that is available for apps and personal files. Free space if an install fails, and update the phone, Galaxy Wearable, Play Store, and watch software where possible.
Labels and screens can differ by region and One UI Watch version. Samsung may call the app-browsing area in Galaxy Wearable Store; the watch itself uses Google Play Store. That Store shortcut is not the old Galaxy Store workflow.
Install an app directly on the watch
- Wake the watch and press the Home/Power button or swipe up to open the apps screen.
- Open Play Store. If prompted, finish signing in to your Google account.
- Tap the search icon to find an app by name, or browse categories such as fitness, music, productivity, or watch faces.
- Open the listing, check that it is for Wear OS and review its details and permissions, then tap Install.
- Wait for the download to finish. Press Home/Power or swipe up to find the app in the apps screen.
The watch needs Wi-Fi or LTE to search and download. Some apps also need a companion app on the phone or a phone connection for particular features. Google’s Wear OS app guide covers getting and removing apps.
Install an app using your Android phone
There are two phone-based routes. The exact Galaxy Wearable labels may vary by software version and region.

Through Galaxy Wearable
- Make sure the Watch4 is paired with the phone, then open Galaxy Wearable.
- Select Store (or the watch’s app-store entry if it is labeled differently).
- Search or browse, open the app listing, and tap Install.
- If asked where to install it, select the Galaxy Watch4 and confirm.
Through Google Play on the phone
- Open the app’s listing in Google Play on the paired Android phone.
- Look near the Install control for a compatible-device selector, a watch listed beneath the button, or an option such as Available on more devices.
- If the Galaxy Watch4 is offered, select it and tap Install.
Using the larger phone screen can make searching and reading listings easier. Not every listing offers the watch as an install target, and not every app installs on both devices. Samsung’s Wear OS setup and app guide describes phone-based installation.
Check whether an app supports the Watch4
An Android phone app and its watch app are separate targets. Installing the phone version does not by itself put a usable app on the watch. The developer must provide a Wear OS-compatible watch app or companion.
On the phone’s Play Store listing, look for the Watch4 in the compatible-device selector, a separate watch listing, or an indication that the app is available on more devices. If the watch is not listed, the app may have no Wear OS version, may be restricted in your country, may require a different watch software version, or may have been withdrawn. Samsung notes that automatic installation requires a watch counterpart; see its app-management guidance.
Before installing, consider whether the app needs the phone nearby, LTE, GPS, NFC, location or health permissions, a subscription, or offline downloads. Watch apps often have fewer features than their phone counterparts. Availability of health-related apps and features can also depend on country, phone, model, age, and software; do not assume that a feature such as ECG or blood-pressure monitoring is available everywhere.
Add a watch face
Watch faces are installed like other Wear OS apps:
- On the watch: Open Play Store, search or browse for a watch face, open its listing, and tap Install.
- On the phone: Open Galaxy Wearable, choose Store, select a watch face, and tap Install.
After installation, touch and hold the current face, swipe through the available faces, and tap the one you want. Its customization options depend on the face. Samsung’s Wear OS navigation guide covers watch faces and apps-screen navigation.

Find an installed app
From the watch face, press the Home/Power button or swipe up to open the apps screen. Look for the app there. Installing an app is different from adding a tile, complication, or shortcut: those are separate ways to surface information or launch functions, and an app may not provide all of them. Button behavior can be customized on supported software, but the available controls vary.
Update or remove apps
Update apps
Update Wear OS apps through Google Play Store on the watch or the relevant Play Store controls on the phone. Samsung says Wear OS app updates use Play Store, not Galaxy Store; see its software and app update guidance. App updates are separate from watch software updates. Update the watch through its settings or Galaxy Wearable, following the labels shown on your software version rather than assuming one menu path. Keep the watch charged during major updates.
Uninstall apps
On the watch, open Play Store, find the installed app, and look for Uninstall. If that option is not shown there, use the watch’s app-management or settings screen to select the app and choose Uninstall or Remove. You may also be able to remove it through Play Store or installed-app controls in Galaxy Wearable. Controls vary by app and software version.
Troubleshoot common installation problems

If a download remains stuck, update Galaxy Wearable, Play Store, Google Play services, and watch software where available, then try again. If the app partially installed, remove it and retry. Re-pairing or resetting the watch should be a last resort: check that important data is backed up and understand the setup work involved before doing so.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install apps on a Galaxy Watch4 without my phone?
You need a compatible Android phone to set up the Watch4. Once it is set up, you can install apps directly from the watch’s Play Store when the watch has Wi-Fi or LTE; that does not make the watch a standalone device for every app or function.
Can I install any Android app on the Watch4?
No. The app needs a Wear OS-compatible watch version or companion, and availability can also depend on region, software, and device compatibility.
Do watch apps use storage and battery?
Yes. Apps use some of the watch’s available storage, and their battery impact varies with what they do, how often they run, and what connections or permissions they use.
