To manage Weather locations across Apple devices, start with the Weather app on your iPhone: tap List, search for a place, and select the correct result. Locations generally synchronize with an Apple Watch and other devices using the same Apple Account, although updates may not appear instantly. The city shown in an Apple Watch weather complication is a separate setting controlled by Watch app on iPhone → Weather → Default City.
Quick guide
| Device | Add a location | Remove a location | Important detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone | Weather → List → search → select the result → Add | Swipe left on the location → Delete | Usually the easiest place to manage the shared list |
| Mac | Search in Weather and select the correct result | Use the sidebar’s context or edit controls | The sidebar layout varies by macOS version |
| Apple Watch | Weather → List → Add → search → select the result | List → swipe left on the location → Delete | The list synchronizes with the paired iPhone |
Add a city on iPhone
- Open the Weather app.
- Tap the List button in the lower-right corner.
- Tap the search field and enter a city, state or country, ZIP or postal code, or airport code.
- Tap the correct location in the results.
- If it is not already saved, tap Add.
Do not stop after typing a place name. You must select a result so Weather knows which location to save. This matters when several cities have the same name. Check the state, province, country, or other geographic information before adding it.
Searching by an airport code can help identify a metropolitan area, but an airport forecast may not precisely represent weather in every nearby neighborhood. For smaller towns or neighborhoods, try the full name, postal code, or nearby city and compare the search results.
If Weather says the location is already saved, it is already in your list. To see weather wherever you currently are, use Current Location instead of adding a permanent city. Current Location and manually saved locations are different.

Remove or reorder locations on iPhone
Delete a saved location
- Open Weather and tap List.
- Find the location you want to remove.
- Swipe left on it.
- Tap the Delete or trash-can control.
Depending on your iOS release, the list may instead offer an Edit List command, a more-options button, or minus buttons. Apple has changed the Weather list controls between software versions, so use the edit control presented on your iPhone.
Deleting a saved city does not turn off weather for your current location. It can remove that location from the synchronized Apple Watch list when the devices are using the same Apple Account and synchronization completes.
Reorder the list
- Open the Weather location list and enter its edit mode if necessary.
- Press and hold the reorder handle beside a location.
- Drag the location higher or lower in the list.
- Tap Done when finished, if that button appears.
List order can affect how locations are presented in some Weather views, widgets, or device-specific screens. It does not by itself determine the city shown in an Apple Watch complication; that city is selected separately through Default City.

Add a city on Mac
- Open Weather on your Mac.
- Show the sidebar if it is hidden by choosing View → Show Sidebar, where that menu is available.
- Click the search field or search control.
- Enter a city, ZIP or postal code, or airport code.
- Select the correct result, checking its state, province, or country.
- Choose Add or the equivalent save-location control shown by your macOS version.
Mac Weather uses a sidebar rather than the iPhone’s bottom-right List button. Toolbar placement and the exact save command can vary with macOS and window size.
Remove or rearrange a Mac location
Select the location in the Weather sidebar, then Control-click or right-click it and choose the available remove command. Some versions expose removal through an edit command or another sidebar control instead. Do not expect the iPhone swipe-left gesture to work on Mac.
When the current macOS interface permits it, drag saved locations in the sidebar to change their order. If the list is missing, first choose View → Show Sidebar.

Apple says Weather locations on the Watch stay synchronized with the iPhone list when the devices are signed in to the same Apple Account. You can therefore manage the list on the Watch, but the iPhone is usually more convenient for larger changes. See Apple’s Apple Watch Weather instructions for the documented Watch controls.
Change the city shown in an Apple Watch complication
A saved location and the city displayed by a Watch complication are not necessarily the same setting. The saved list contains locations you can browse. The complication uses the Watch app’s selected default city.

- Open the Watch app on the paired iPhone.
- Tap Weather.
- Tap Default City.
- Choose the city you want complications to display.
If the Weather app on the Watch shows the correct list but the watch face displays another city, check Watch app → Weather → Default City before deleting and re-adding locations. A widget or complication may also have its own location-selection control, so edit that item if its setting is independent.

Apple documents synchronization across devices, but it is not guaranteed to refresh immediately in every situation. Work through these checks in order:

- Wait briefly, then close and reopen Weather on the affected device.
- Confirm the iPhone and Mac use the same Apple Account.
- Confirm the Watch is paired with the intended iPhone.
- Check that the devices have network access.
- Make sure Weather is available and installed on the relevant devices.
- Restart the affected device, then check the list again.
- On the iPhone, add a temporary, clearly identifiable city and allow time for synchronization. Remove it afterward.
Some users have reported that adding and then removing a city on the iPhone refreshes a stuck Watch list. This is an anecdotal, version-dependent workaround reported in user forums, not a guaranteed Apple repair procedure: MacRumors user reports.

If the iPhone and Mac continue to show different lists after checking accounts, pairing, connectivity, and restarts, contact Apple Support rather than repeatedly deleting locations. A city can be correctly saved even when its forecast data is temporarily unavailable.
Fix a wrong or missing current location
Manually saved cities do not require Weather to continuously use your location. Location access mainly affects Current Location forecasts, location-based labels, alerts, and related suggestions.
- On iPhone, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
- Confirm Location Services is enabled.
- Open Weather in the Location Services list and allow the access level appropriate to your needs.
- Check any Weather widget or complication separately if it has its own location setting.
If positioning is still wrong, indoor or urban conditions can make location less precise, and a fixed Watch complication city may be mistaken for Current Location. Weather data can also be delayed by network problems, regional availability, a temporary provider issue, or an outdated software state. Adding the city again will not necessarily fix a forecast-data outage.
Home and Work labels are different from saved cities
Weather may show Home or Work using addresses associated with your contact card. These labels can look like ordinary saved locations, but they are not necessarily entries you manually added.
- iPhone or iPad: go to Settings → Apps → Weather and turn off Home and Work.
- Mac: open Weather → Settings → General and deselect Home and Work.
These options control labels and related behavior; they do not delete a manually saved city. Apple explains how Weather uses location information and the regional limits that can apply in its Weather privacy documentation.
What to check when a city will not disappear
- Is it actually the Current Location entry?
- Is it the Default City used by a Watch complication?
- Is it a Home or Work label?
- Is the Watch showing an old, unsynchronized list?
- Is a widget configured to a different location?
After deleting the entry, reopen Weather, verify the iPhone list, restart the Watch or Mac, and check the Apple Account and pairing. If the Watch still shows the old city, verify Watch app → Weather → Default City. Only then try the reported add-and-remove refresh workaround.
