In most cases, a paired Samsung Galaxy Watch gets its time from the connected phone. Correct the phone’s date, time, and time zone, then reconnect or restart the watch. If the watch is operating without a phone, open Settings > General > Date and time, turn off Automatic time if it appears, and set the date, time, and time zone manually.

The exact options vary by Galaxy Watch model, software version, and whether the watch is paired. Older Gear and Tizen models may use different menus.

First, identify what is wrong

Before changing anything, determine whether you need to correct the clock itself, the date, the time zone, or only the display format.

  • Time is one hour wrong: Check the time zone and daylight-saving settings before changing the clock manually.
  • Time is several hours wrong: Check the phone’s time, time zone, and whether the watch is synchronized.
  • Date is wrong: Check the time zone and automatic date and time settings.
  • You want 12-hour or 24-hour display: Change the clock format; this does not alter the actual time.
  • You are traveling: Check the phone’s new location and time zone, or set the zone manually if the watch is standalone.

Also determine whether the watch is currently connected to a phone. This decides where you should make the correction.

Paired Galaxy Watch: change the time on the phone

When a Galaxy Watch is paired with a smartphone, its time normally synchronizes automatically with the phone. Manual time controls may therefore be unavailable or disabled on the watch.

On a Samsung Galaxy phone, the usual path is:

Settings > General management > Date and time

Check the following:

  1. Make sure Automatic date and time is enabled unless you deliberately need manual control.
  2. Make sure Automatic time zone is enabled, where available.
  3. Confirm that the phone itself displays the correct local time and date.
  4. If automatic settings are disabled, use Set date, Set time, and Select time zone to correct them.

Phone menus differ between Android manufacturers and software versions, so these labels are a Samsung Galaxy phone example rather than a universal Android path. Samsung documents the available date, time, time-zone, and format controls in its phone date-and-time guide.

After correcting the phone, keep it near the watch with Bluetooth enabled and allow the connection to synchronize. Open the Galaxy Wearable app if necessary. If the watch still shows the old time, restart it.

Standalone or unpaired Galaxy Watch: change the time directly

Manual adjustment is mainly relevant when the watch is not paired with a phone. On compatible models, Samsung’s current watch-side path is:

Watch home screen > Settings > General > Date and time

  1. Open Settings on the watch.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Date and time.
  4. Turn off Automatic time, if that option is shown.
  5. Tap Set date, adjust the date, and confirm.
  6. Tap Set time, adjust the hour and minutes, and confirm.
  7. Select or correct the time zone, if the watch provides that control.

Automatic time may use information from a connected network. If the watch has no usable phone or network connection, it may not be able to update automatically. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance for an incorrect watch time covers these settings and limitations.

Do not assume that every Samsung Watch supports manual changes in every operating state. Samsung notes that manual date and time changes may be available only when the watch and smartphone are not paired.

How to change the time zone while traveling

For a paired watch, correct the time zone on the phone first. With automatic time and time-zone settings enabled, the phone should update to the new region and the watch should follow it after synchronization.

For a standalone watch, the result depends on its network connection and model. If it does not detect the new region automatically:

  1. Open Settings > General > Date and time.
  2. Turn off Automatic time, if required.
  3. Select the correct time zone manually.
  4. Check the date after changing the zone, especially if you crossed midnight.

Choose the correct region or time zone instead of simply adding or subtracting an hour. A wrong time-zone selection can cause recurring errors and may mishandle daylight-saving changes. Whether daylight saving updates automatically depends on the selected region, the phone or network settings, and connectivity.

Switch between 12-hour and 24-hour time

Changing the display format is separate from correcting the clock.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Depending on the model and software, look for one of these labels in the date-and-time settings:

  • 12-hour format
  • 24-hour format
  • Use 24-hour format

On a paired watch, the format may follow the phone. On a Samsung Galaxy phone, check Settings > General management > Date and time > Use 24-hour format, where available. A 12-hour/24-hour change affects how the time is displayed; it does not fix an incorrect time zone or clock value.

Why the time is still wrong

The watch is exactly one hour wrong

The most likely causes are an incorrect time zone, a daylight-saving mismatch, or disagreement between the phone and watch about the current region. Check the phone’s time zone and automatic time-zone setting, reconnect the watch, and restart it. Do not manually add an hour until the time zone has been verified.

The watch is several hours wrong

Check whether the phone itself is wrong. If the watch is standalone, it may have stale network information or an incorrectly entered manual time zone. Correct the source of the time, then synchronize or set the watch manually if supported.

The date is wrong but the time is correct

A time-zone error can shift the date even when the displayed hour appears plausible. Also check whether the watch crossed midnight while using a manually set time and whether the phone’s date and automatic-time settings are correct.

The time changes back after you correct it

Automatic synchronization may be overriding the manual setting. The phone may still have the wrong time or time zone, or a connected network may be supplying incorrect information. Correct the source device or network rather than repeatedly changing the watch by hand.

The watch was dead or powered off for a long time

Allow it to boot fully, reconnect it to the phone or an appropriate network, and check synchronization before making a manual adjustment. An extended period powered off can leave the displayed time out of date.

What to do when “Date and time” is missing

A missing or unavailable Date and time menu does not necessarily indicate a fault. Common explanations include:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • The watch is paired and its time is controlled by the phone.
  • The model does not support manual adjustment in its current operating mode.
  • The setting is located under a slightly different heading.
  • The watch software uses different labels.
  • The watch is not operating in the standalone mode required for manual control.

First correct the phone’s date, time, and time zone. Do not factory-reset the watch merely because manual controls are absent. If the path still does not match, identify the watch model number and consult its model-specific Samsung manual.

Recovery sequence when synchronization fails

Use these steps in order, starting with the least disruptive option:

  1. Correct the phone: Verify its date, time, time zone, and automatic settings.
  2. Restore the connection: Keep the phone and watch nearby, enable Bluetooth, and open Galaxy Wearable.
  3. Restart the watch: Press and hold the Power key, tap Power off, leave it off briefly, and press the Power key to turn it on. On the Galaxy Watch3, Samsung indicates that the Power and Back buttons may need to be held together to reach the power-off option.
  4. Check standalone connectivity: If the watch is unpaired, reconnect it to an appropriate network where supported.
  5. Set it manually: On a compatible standalone watch, use Settings > General > Date and time, disable Automatic time, and set the date, time, and time zone.
  6. Back up the watch: Do this before considering a reset.
  7. Reset only as a last resort: Samsung’s documented path is Settings > General > Reset > Reset again. A reset erases data stored on the watch.

A factory reset can resolve persistent configuration problems, but it should follow checks of synchronization, connectivity, time-zone settings, and a restart. Back up first because the reset is destructive.

Galaxy Watch model differences

Samsung’s wearable range includes newer Wear OS-based Galaxy Watches, older Tizen-based Galaxy Watches, and Gear models. Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch FE, and later models may use a newer settings structure, but labels can change with software updates.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Older Gear and Tizen watches may place date-and-time controls elsewhere or impose different restrictions when paired. Samsung provides model-specific manuals and support pages, including documentation for the Galaxy Watch4/5/6 family, Galaxy Watch7, Galaxy Watch FE, and older Galaxy Watch and Gear-family devices. If your menus do not match, use the model number to locate the correct manual rather than forcing newer instructions onto an older watch.

Quick troubleshooting table

Problem Most likely cause First fix
One hour wrong Time zone or daylight-saving mismatch Check the phone’s selected time zone and automatic time zone.
Manual controls missing The watch is paired or the model does not support manual adjustment in that mode Correct the phone’s date and time settings.
Time changes back Automatic synchronization is overriding the manual setting Correct the phone or network supplying the time.
Wrong after travel Standalone operation, stale network information, or an old phone time zone Update the phone or select the new time zone manually if supported.
Still wrong after restart Persistent synchronization or configuration issue Back up the watch and consider a reset only after simpler checks.

The shortest reliable answer

If your Samsung Galaxy Watch is paired, change the phone’s date, time, and time zone. If it is standalone, use Settings > General > Date and time, disable Automatic time if necessary, and set the date, time, and time zone. If the time remains wrong, restore the connection, restart the watch, and reserve a factory reset for last.
