To change a Fitbit band, first identify the exact Fitbit model. Fitbit devices use several different attachment systems: flat release latches, sliding buttons, quick-release levers, flexible sleeves, and removable clasps. Remove one side at a time, install the replacement with the fixed pin or connector first where required, and gently tug both sides before wearing it.
You do not normally need to turn off, reset, unpair, or remove your Fitbit from the app. Take it off your wrist and work over a clean, soft surface.
Identify your Fitbit before removing the band
Do not buy or remove a band based only on the device’s shape or the words “fits Fitbit.” Compatibility depends on the exact model and, in some cases, its generation.

What you need
- Your compatible replacement band
- A fingernail or fingertip for most current models
- A clean, dry, well-lit work surface
- A soft cloth to protect the tracker from scratches
A knife, screwdriver, or metal pick is not normally necessary. Do not pry under the connector, twist the tracker forcefully, or stretch a flexible band farther than needed. If a legacy latch is stuck, a plastic pick may help only as a cautious last resort; stop if the frame or latch begins to bend.
Change a Charge 5, Charge 6, or Luxe band
Remove the old band
- Turn the tracker over.
- Find the flat release button where the band meets the tracker.
- Press the button toward the band with your fingernail.
- While holding the latch, gently pull the band straight away from the tracker.
- Repeat on the other side.
Install the replacement
- Insert the replacement band into the end of the tracker.
- Press until it clicks or snaps into place.
- Repeat with the other half.
- With the display facing you, place the buckle side at the top.
Charge 5 and Charge 6 are treated as a compatible band family in Google’s official accessory listings. Luxe uses the same general flat-latch style but is not automatically compatible with Charge bands, so check the listing for the exact model. When changing between small and large Charge bands, Google says only the bottom band needs to be replaced.

Change a Sense, Sense 2, Versa 3, or Versa 4 band
Remove the old band
- Turn the watch over.
- Locate the flat release button at the band connection.
- Slide the button toward the band.
- Gently pull the band away from the watch.
- Repeat on the opposite side.
Install the replacement
- Press the new band into the end of the watch.
- Continue until the connector snaps into place.
- Attach the band with the buckle, loops, or peg to the top side.
- Lightly tug both band halves to check the connections.
These models use a sliding release button. That procedure is different from the quick-release lever used by the earlier Versa, Versa Lite Edition, and Versa 2.

Change an Inspire, Inspire 2, or Inspire 3 band
Remove the old band
- Turn the tracker over.
- Find the quick-release lever on the band connection.
- Press the lever inward.
- Pull the band away from the tracker.
- Repeat on the other side.
Install the replacement
- Find the pin end opposite the quick-release lever.
- Insert that fixed pin into the notch on the tracker first.
- Keep the lever pressed inward.
- Slide the lever side into position.
- Release the lever once both ends of the pin are seated.
- Attach the clasp side at the top of the tracker.
The fixed-pin-first step is important. Trying to force the lever side into place before the opposite pin is aligned can prevent the band from locking or damage the connector.
Change a Versa, Versa Lite Edition, or Versa 2 band
Remove the old band
- Turn the watch over.
- Press the quick-release lever inward.
- Pull the band away from the watch.
- Repeat on the other side.
Install the replacement
- Hold the band at approximately a 45-degree angle.
- Insert the pin end opposite the lever into the watch’s notch.
- Press the lever inward.
- Slide the other end into place.
- Release the lever after both ends are seated.
- Put the buckle side at the top.
Do not assume that every Versa band fits every Versa watch. Versa, Versa Lite Edition, and Versa 2 use a different attachment style from Versa 3 and Versa 4. Check the exact model and connector before ordering.
Change an Ace 3 band
Ace 3 uses a flexible sleeve rather than a detachable latch or quick-release connector.

- Hold the tracker with the screen facing you.
- Gently push the top of the tracker through the opening in the back of the flexible band.
Install the replacement
- Turn the tracker so its back faces you.
- Hold the new band with its back opening facing you and its buckle at the top.
- Place the top of the tracker into the opening.
- Gently push the bottom of the tracker into position.
- Check that every edge lies flat against the band.
Ace 3 is compatible with Inspire 2 classic accessory bands for some larger-size or style options, but verify the accessory description before buying.

Change an Ace 2 band
Remove the old band
- Hold the tracker with the screen facing you and the button on the left.
- Gently push the top of the tracker through the opening in the back of the flexible band.
Install the replacement
- Hold the tracker with its back facing you and the button on the right.
- Place the top of the tracker into the flexible opening.
- Push the bottom into place.
- Confirm that all edges lie flat and that the tracker is not upside down.
Ace 2 is compatible with Inspire and Inspire HR classic accessory bands, subject to the size and accessory design.
Change an Ace LTE band
- Turn the watch over.
- Press down the band-release button.
- Gently pull the band away.
- Click the replacement band into place.
- Check that you hear or feel the click before wearing it.
For the Ace LTE Comfort Band, loop the band through the top bar and fasten the tabs. For the Active Band, adjust the slider and secure the selected hole over the peg. Google provides separate Ace LTE removal and attachment instructions and fit and care guidance.
Change a Charge 2, Charge 3, or Charge 4 band
- Turn the tracker over.
- Locate the flat button where the band meets the frame.
- Press the button down.
- Pull the band away.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Push the replacement band into the tracker until it snaps into place.
If an older band is difficult to release or attach, gently move it back and forth after releasing the latch. Do not use a forceful twist or pry against the tracker.
Change an Alta or Alta HR band
- Turn the tracker over.
- Press the flat metal button where the band meets the frame.
- Slide the band upward to release it.
- Slide the replacement band downward until it snaps into place.
Change a Blaze band
- Place the Blaze face down on a flat, smooth surface.
- Find the switch where the band meets the frame.
- Slide the switch to unlock the band.
- Pull the band away.
- To install the replacement, insert the pin opposite the switch.
- Pull the switch while sliding the band into position.
- Release the switch so it locks.
Blaze top and bottom bands are not interchangeable. The top piece has the watch buckle; the bottom piece has notches. Match each replacement piece to its correct side.

Change a Flex 2 clasp or band
Flex 2 uses a removable tracker and clasp rather than the usual detachable watch-band connection.
- Push the clasp out from the inside of the band.
- Remove the square and round pegs if necessary.
- Pull the clasp out.
- Align its pegs with the holes in the replacement band.
- Press firmly until both pegs snap into place.
- Flatten any interior bulge with a small flat object, such as a credit card.
How to check that the new band is secure
- View the Fitbit from the front and confirm that the display is upright.
- Make sure the buckle, clasp, loops, or peg section is normally on the top side.
- Check that there is no visible gap between the tracker and band.
- Look for the expected click, snap, or fully released lever.
- Gently tug each band half away from the tracker.
- Fasten the band snugly enough to stay in place, but not so tightly that it causes discomfort.
A loose band can reduce consistent contact between the sensors and your skin. An overly tight or damp band can contribute to discomfort or irritation. Remove or loosen the device if you experience persistent redness, soreness, tingling, numbness, burning, or stiffness, and seek medical advice if symptoms continue.

Confirm compatibility first
Check all of the following before ordering:
- The exact Fitbit model and generation
- Whether the listing includes one band half or a complete top-and-bottom pair
- The small or large wrist size
- The connector or sleeve style
- Whether the product is a functional replacement band or only a decorative sleeve
“Small” and “large” generally describe wrist size; they do not make bands universally interchangeable between Fitbit models. Official bands provide the strongest connector-matching confidence, while aftermarket bands may offer more colors and materials but require careful checking of compatibility, reviews, returns, and current availability.

Choose the material for how you wear the Fitbit
- Silicone or elastomer: A practical choice for exercise, sweat, and water exposure.
- Woven or nylon: Light and flexible, but it can absorb moisture and take longer to dry.
- Leather or vegan leather: Dressier, but generally less suitable for swimming or repeated heavy sweating.
- Metal mesh or links: More formal and potentially heavier; link designs may need resizing.
- Stretch fabric: Easy to put on, but may loosen or retain moisture over time.
- Flexible sleeves: Required for models such as Ace 2 and Ace 3 and not interchangeable with latch-based bands.
Choose the closure
Peg-and-loop closures are easy to adjust but may leave a strap tail. Buckles are familiar and secure but slower to fasten. Magnetic closures are convenient, but a design without a secure secondary closure may be a poor choice for vigorous activity. The tracker’s water resistance also does not make every band material suitable for swimming.

Troubleshooting Fitbit band problems
The band will not come off
- Confirm that you are using the procedure for the exact model.
- Press or slide the latch in the specified direction before pulling.
- Pull straight away rather than twisting the band.
- Work on one side at a time.
- On older models, gently rock the band only after the latch has released.
- Wipe visible dirt around the connector with a dry, soft cloth.
- Stop if the frame, latch, or band begins to bend.
The replacement band will not attach
- Recheck the model, generation, and connector type.
- Turn the band around and confirm it is not upside down.
- Insert the fixed pin first on quick-release models.
- Hold the release lever inward while seating the second side.
- Inspect for a bent pin, damaged notch, or debris.
- Never force a connector that does not align naturally.
The band feels loose
Remove and reinstall it, confirm that both sides are seated, and repeat the light tug test. Inspect the latch or pin for damage. If the connector still does not lock securely, replace the band rather than wearing the tracker loose.
The tracker is upside down
This is most common with Ace 2 and Ace 3 sleeve bands or replacement bands with unequal top and bottom pieces. Remove the band and reinstall it with the screen orientation, button position, and buckle location matching the model’s instructions.
The new band irritates my skin
Remove the device, clean and dry both the tracker and band, and allow the skin to recover. Try a different material and avoid wearing a damp band continuously. Persistent symptoms should be assessed by a medical professional.

Changing a band should not affect charging. If the model uses a sleeve, remove the tracker and inspect its rear contacts. Make sure the charger is aligned correctly. Charge 5, Charge 6, and Luxe share a charging cable, while other Fitbit models use different charging arrangements; a charging problem is therefore not automatically caused by the new band. When replacing the band is not the real problem
If the tracker itself is damaged, the latch has broken, or the device is no longer practical to use, a replacement device may make more sense than repeatedly forcing a worn connector. Support and update coverage differs across Fitbit generations; consult Google’s current Fitbit security-support table before deciding. A worn band alone does not mean you need a new Fitbit.
